  2. It is not my intention to start a debate on this topic, but IMO the media's fear mongering is absolutely justified. The count of the impressive number of daily deaths alone should be more than enough to understand that the issue is very serious. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

  4. With a rig like yours you should ideally/theoretically use pre versions of the amp models, and you shouldn't enable cab simulations, but if you do then you should choose the output mode corresponding to your rig type (stack power amp). If you do not enable the cab simulations, the chosen output mode does not really matter. Then of course you can experiment and break the recommended guidelines given above, the important thing is to be happy with the final sound. Then you might consider the question of the input signal already (hiddenly) boosted by default and its influence on the models response and the resulting sound. https://allabouthd500x.altervista.org/allabouthd500x/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=17 For the rest it is only about building patches as you would with any real rig: proper settings of the drive/gain parameters of the models according to the connected guitar, choice and use of boosting and/or overdrive or distortion solutions to combine with model of amps (pre in your case) clean or slightly distorted, etc. (Smart usage of the guitar controls, but this aspect would require an entire separate post).. In your case the final sounds will be always strongly characterized by your power-amp and especially by your cab. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  5. if you have read the explanations already given in the previous posts you should have noticed that there are two possible ways: - via S/PDIF connection - through special built patches The S/PDIF solution requires a second audio interface (which should be the one chosen in the DAW audio settings) provided with S/PDIF, you need the S/PDIF digital cable to connect the POD and the AI, and in the POD system settings (press and hold the VIEW button) at page 5 the S/PDIF OUTPUT should be set to DRY INPUTS. For the special built patch solution, you could use the patch kindly provided above by silverhead as a template and put the amp and FX models you want in the path dedicated to the wet signal (this path is used only for monitoring purpose, its signal is not the one which should be recorded), and leave empty the path which is carrying the dry unprocessed signal which you want to record in your DAW track. Before starting the recording you need to select in your DAW which one of the 2 signals coming from the POD should be recorded in the DAW track. Choose the one corresponding to the dry unprocessed signal. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  6. Since it is the POD that is generating the audio signal you want to hear, speakers and/or headphones should be connected to the POD, not to the computer. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  7. What I said previously applies also in case of the HX Stomp.. Forget exchanging patches between different devices. It doesn't work. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  8. Surely not.. the 2 devices are based on different modeling engines.. What you could do is to open the 2 editors side by side and try to build/copy manually in the POD editor what you see in the HX editor, mainly the general structure in the chain of the patches, things like: which amp/s type is used, what type of boosting/overdriving solution is applied, which FXs and what type are placed before and after the amp model, type of mics selected, etc. but the parameters values and models can't be simply copied, since the 2 devices don't respond in the same way.. It takes time, and frankly I don't know how much it is worth the effort doing such a job.. If you have already a good idea of the general structure of the patches you usually need, probably it would be much better and less time consuming to build your patches from scratch directly with your POD editor without caring about the Helix patches.. There is nothing better than you ears to decide in real time if putting a certain model in some place in the chain is giving a good result or not with the device you are currently using.. Even if as an example it was possible (obviously not) to copy the AXE FX (or any other modeler) patches into the POD, the results on the POD would be quite different, and viceversa, not necessarily worse, but surely different.. In general the patches built on a certain device sound better on the device where they have been built. Patches are and should be like tailored clothes, ie tailor-made for a certain device, and for the guitar and the player who creates them. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

    FX LOOP

I wonder: Is it there no signal at all, or is it there not enough signal? I guess that when plugging a TRS jack cable into the (stereo capable/mono) SEND output, the POD signal is splitted in 2 halves L and R, therefore if you connect to your IR loader just one of the 2 channels the signal is considerably weaker than what you'd get by using instead a standard mono cable. So if you have to use a Y cable, some boosting ( at least 6 dB ) from the POD before the FX LOOP block in the chain could be necessary. Moreover, make sure that the switch on the rear panel of the POD is set to LINE and not STOMP, LINE level signals is what an IR loader is expecting. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  10. There is a sub-forum called "pod farm/pod studio/toneport" more suited for your specific help request, this one is dedicated to the POD HD series. However, I guess that since you already bought the model pack, you should simply use the License Manager program to authorize the computer where the POD Farm is installed to be able to use the models included in the model pack. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  11. The Editor running doesn't really affect at all the audio signal latency, but it makes changing patches and tweaking some of the settings much more slow responding especially directly on the device, since any change from one side (device or editor) must be syncronized with other one, and it takes time. Great! Unfortunately when using plugins in real time you are forced to use the track/DAW monitoring which never has zero latency, but it can come to acceptable levels if the PC hardware is enough powerful and with the CPU resources mostly dedicated to audio processing and not to other tasks, and the AI ASIO driver is good quality and well set. If the final sound on recording should come from a plugin, a viable way/strategy to completely avoid latency could be to record a dry signal track with the POD and taking advantage of the direct hardware monitoring (zero latency), and only after applying the plugin processing. - you could record the dry signal through the S/PDIF digital output connected to the S/PDIF of an external AI while using any patch to get some processing just for monitoring. - or without having to use an external AI you could build a dual chain patch where one path has some processing just for monitoring (not to be selected/recorded in the DAW track), and the other path is empty, of which the output should be one selected/recorded in the DAW track to get the dry signal which will be processed with the plugin later. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  12. Every time you select a preset on the POD (directly or remotely) the device sends automatically a MIDI program change through its MIDI OUT.. the correspondence between the POD presets and the MIDI program changes follows a fixed table of values in sequence: eg bank1 preset A corresponds to MIDI PC 000, bank1 preset B corresponds to MIDI PC 001, bank1 preset D corresponds to MIDI PC 003, bank2 preset A corresponds to MIDI PC 004, and so on.. So if your amp head is MIDI equipped you can connect the MIDI OUT of the POD to the MIDI IN of your amp, and depending on how the amp channels are MIDI programmed they will change accordingly to the received MIDI PCs. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  13. Better late than never, I would say.. in any case more than a reply I would consider the recent post by Gueyome as an update/possible solution to a topic which was still unresolved , and it could be useful to those who currently have the same problem covered by this thread, thread that even if old is still indexed by search engines and appears in the results when looking for certain topics and solutions. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  14. As already suggested by phil_m in the previous post, you get zero latency if you use the hardware direct monitoring instead of the track monitoring in your DAW. Which thing means that you should make sure that the "hardware monitor level" in your Line6 driver control panel (see the pic below here) is not set to zero, and the monitoring of the track in your DAW is turned off. But it could be that you wanted to try in real time some plugins eg a IR loader, in that case it would necessary to do the opposite of what said above, ie enable the track monitoring and disable the hardware direct monitoring, but the drawback of this setting is that it introduces latency, and as you said in your post you could try to lower the buffer settings to reduce it, till the point where the system can still handle the settings without audio issues. Your problem is that the driver doesn't retain the settings you do in the dedicated control panel, and that surely is not normal. A few ideas/workarounds to try could be: - since the Line6 driver can be reached in two ways, ie from the windows programs menu, and from the DAW audio settings, try the way you didn't try till now, who knows, maybe it works better.. - I see that you have the version 4.2.7.7 of the driver installed, I also have a HD500 and the driver currently installed in my PC is version 4.2.7.6 and it works without issues, I guess you could try to uninstall your current driver and install the previous version (freely downloadable from here) and see if it works better on your system. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  15. The input source of the used track needs to be selected, and probably the track needs to be armed for recording, and maybe you have to enable also the track monitoring if it isn't already.. I suggest to give at least one read to the manual of your DAW in order to learn the basic operations. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  16. Yes No way, the built in speakers or external speakers which are connected directly to the PC can work only with the signal coming form the computer built in audio interface.. So, you need external speakers, and those speakers must be connected to your external audio interface Toneport GX since it is currently used as the AI _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  17. Any speaker must be connected directly to the output of the audio interface currently in use and which therefore provides the signal, in this case your Toneport GX. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

POD HD Complete Promo FREE “ HD FULLY LOADED BUNDLE ” If you meet all the above terms and conditions just register your product into your Line6 account and use the downloadable License Manager program to activate/authorize the bundle, but first make sure that the device firmware is the last one, otherwise update it before activating the model packs. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  20. As already suggested by pianoguyy in the previous post, to get a dry signal from the mic you need basically to use an empty patch with no effects at all, make sure that the input is set to mic (by default it isn't), and the mic pre-amp gain knob on the rear panel of the device is set as needed to get a strong enough signal. But if you want to use your mic and also the guitar at the same time, you need to build special patches where you take advantage of both the parallel path A and B, one of them should be dedicated only to the guitar with effects, amp, and the right input source selected (guitar).. ..and the other path should be dedicated only to the voice (basically empty if you want the voice to be completely dry, but you might want to add a studio compression, a vintage pre-amp, an EQ and some reverb) and obviouly with the right input source selected (mic) PS. - for every patch to set the inputs as needed you can easily use the Editor, or directly on the device press and hold the VIEW button and go to page 3. - to create 2 independent paths you have to move (drag and drop) all the blocks inside the rectangle, on the upper side put the blocks you need for path A and on the lower side put the blocks for path B _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

  22. I don't remember what the default value is, but for sure since I bought my HD500 years ago I have chosen and set the screen contrast to 40 and I have never changed it. For me it is the perfect setting and in all this time the image quality given by the screen has not changed. Frankly, I am more concerned about the duration of all moving parts such as encoders, switches and potentiometers, which are more subject to wear ... in fact I have already had to replace some of them. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  23. In order to understand what workbench parameters do and how they affect the tone, you could give a read to the following doc WB Tutorial 6 290107.pdf which actually relates to the first generation workbench/Variax but the explained concepts remain the same also with the new generation editor and Variax guitars. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  24. What phil_m said in the previous post.. But if it could be a viable solution for you there would be a simple workaround: do record also your drum track with the looper, and continue doing your overdubs, doing so they will never go out of sync with the drum track. PS. I forgot to say that for the above workaround you need a dual chain patch, with one path dedicated to the guitar and the other parallel path empty to let the drum track signal passing through it unprocessed but recordable, you could use the AUX input for the drum track signal coming from a drum machine or an external audio interface used by your DAW or any other audio program. Obviously once recorded in the looper, the original drum track or metronome signal should be stopped not to be recorded again and again. Better: use and empty patch to record the drum track signal in the looper .. change patch for the guitar and do your overdubs _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  25. Thanks, despite the bad period we go on .. Greetings to Germany If you think that the POD HD500X is not enough powerful to handle the virtual chains of effects and amp models you need for your recordings, you could consider Helix or Helix LT which are the most powerful Line6 modelers currently on the market, and much more powerful than the POD HD500X.. Personally as a performing/recording musician I'm still using the old POD HD500 and I never reached the hardware limits for the tones I need to use, but we guitarists are all different and with different needs. The Helix line is having a lot of success, if you give a look at The Gear Page website under the Digital & Modeling Gear category, you'll notice that almost every posted thread has to do with the Helix family of products. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
