Just for the record, I'm pretty sure "pianoguyy" was referring in the above sentence to a particular setting (semi-hidden) in the patches, namely the "input settings" and the advantage (discovered too late, when you've already built lot of patches) sonically speaking of using the "single input approach".. The above setting and how much it affects the final tones you get unfortunately (due to how L6 implemented it) is not at all apparent/obvious when starting to use this device for the first time. For more information about it, read my post already written in my forum/website: How to get the original intended tone from the models - HD500/X signals routings explained _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Everyone has their own good reasons for acting one way or another. In my case although I also play (and teach) for work, I would certainly be willing to find some time to update all my patches that I actually use (which certainly are neither thousands nor hundreds, since I almost always play the same genre) if a simple change of settings (rather than a change of device) and consequent few adjustments of the patches would give me a higher quality/superior sound for free, I would do it mainly for my final pleasure, but it would also certainly reflect positively on the results of my work making it even more pleasant to do. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

JTV strings signal annoying compression
hurghanico replied to hurghanico's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I can not make easily recordings showing this specific issue since I don't own the guitar, and the owner who lives 20km away from me I see him at his home only once a week for a lesson of about 1 hour and a half, during which we play almost all the time. However at this point I don't think audio demos are really so necessary, some who have replied previously in this thread clearly have already understood the problem very well (without audio demos), also because it is not an isolated case and has already happened in the same way to several other people. As suggested by the service engineer psarkissian my friend will do a re-flashing at some point (hope soon), and if it doesn't work, he will try to follow the suggestions given in Rewolf48's post which seem very logical to me and I believe that most likely they can improve the functioning of the instrument. Since not all JTV owners complain about the same problem, but only some of them, I wonder if some piezo sets and/or internal preamplifiers more powerful than others have been mounted on some JTVs, which would trigger an internal limiter/compressor more easily, thus denaturalizing the sound. In any case, whatever the cause of the problem, I believe that the various checks on the proper functioning of an instrument and the necessary adjustments should be done by the factory before sending it to the shops, especially if the instrument is not cheap. In this case I would say that if a functioning check has been done, it was quite summarily. -
You can not. The Looper FX is located outside one of the ends of the chain, so it can not be routed only to the LEFT or the RIGHT output by using the controls available in the chain. The Looper can be placed before the chain (basically recording and playing back the dry input signal into the chain), and after the chain (recording/playing the already processed signal/s). Those 2 options are all the routings you can do with the Looper. To do what you want you need an external Looper FX. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Just to clarify, the HD500 and HD500X share exactly the same type and number of models.. What happened with the HD is that Line6 decided to put better quality models (especially more dynamically responding) which were more resources hungry into a still affordable (thus somewhat limited) hardware, so the total number of the models included decreased significantly compared to what was in the older devices. They chose to put only the models of the most iconic and requested amps, above all most of the missing ones actually are simply small variations of the included ones, or inspired by. Helix more powerful hardware costs more and allows to include the latest HX modeling technology (even more resources hungry), but also a greater quantity of models. So, as always you get what you pay for. At the end only you as a user know what you really need for your hobby or job, and how much. In regard to the previous technology models not included in the newer devices, actually some of them (the most requested ones) have been added at some point with the models packs. But it seems clear that there wasn't room for everything. Moreover the old ported models don't sound 100% exactly as the originals because the old cabs haven't be ported too. I'm sure there is a company which sells the models individually, Line6 not, they have always had a different approach. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

JTV strings signal annoying compression
hurghanico replied to hurghanico's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
But damn it! Thanks sgreb for reporting. Unfortunately I don't have the opportunity to try other JTVs to make comparisons and see if they all respond in the same way (to the same player).. who knows, maybe all JTVs in general respond in a normal way only in the hands of those players who use a very light touch. If this is so, surely they would not be suitable for me as I have a very dynamic way of playing (going from delicate to strong), luckily my old 700 does not limit/compress my playing in any perceptible way.. I'll see if my friend will get the same disappointing result you had after the reflashing .. but honestly I tend to pessimism in this case.. He doesn't know it, but I feel a little guilty with my friend, after all I was the one who convinced him to invest money to buy a Variax (in origin he wanted to buy a real LP but he liked also a few other standard guitars), then he decided to take the JTV-59, assuming it should have been even better than my old 700, but it was not so, this is the simple truth. Too much hassle to get a normal working instrument which didn't cost little brand new. I wonder if there is a quality control check on the instruments that leave the factory. -

JTV strings signal annoying compression
hurghanico replied to hurghanico's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Although it may seem incredible, since I wrote in this thread, my friend/student owner of the JTV has not yet tried to re-flash, otherwise I would not have forgotten to report the results here, which I will do when it is finally done. If I had been him, surely I would have done the test immediately, since I use the instrument a lot, for pleasure and job, and I would not bear to play an instrument that does not respond as it should. But he evidently gives less importance to the problem than I do, or maybe he's simply lazy. To be honest I still can't figure how a re-flashing could ever solve this type of problem, but since it has been suggested to me by "psarkissian" who knows surely more than I do about it, it would be stupid at least not to try. After all except for some time, what else is there to lose? If you try first, kindly let us know your results. -
Glad you have sorted it out!...Mistery solved!. Is there a difference in level also between the signals coming from the standard jack outputs (no VDI) of the 2 guitars? I also wonder if the weaker guitar volume potentiometer (which would affect both the digital and analog signals) works well actually allowing the full signal to come out when it is apparently set to maximum. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

People who play their guitar several hours every single day or very often need guitar setups and strings replacing more often than the casual players. By necessity I learned how to do the guitar/neck setup and fret leveling/dressing, and lately I do it by myself every time it is necessary. Apart from the inevitable consumption of the frets, the different seasons/weather conditions influence the setup of the instrument, and some small adjustments (even on the fly) are sometimes necessary. Guitar capos (which luckily I seldom use, but some times I have to, eg in transposed from the originals songs where open strings and fretted notes need to be played absolutely together to get the right sound) are real fret killers (unless your guitar has stainless steel frets). In regard to the strings, it may happen sometimes to get brand new bad/defective strings.. or they could be already simply too much worn out.. I happened to have some problems (sort of warbling annoying effect) even with simply fretted/not bended notes around the 12th fret onward area, I thought it could be the models fault, the amount of distortion, or other causes, but actually the culprits were the strings, fact confirmed as soon as I replaced them. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

I might be wrong but I guess that you didn't buy both 2 JTV-59 brand new, and probably at least one of them is second hand.. Did you check if the last one you bought has been tweaked with the workbench? Are its settings still the defaults? Do the 2 guitars have the same firmware version installed? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

I don't know the official answer, most likely the 2 inputs Guitar in and Aux/Return (if both used) signals will be mixed together but the chain with its settings, effects and amp will be just one and shared. To get 2 independent separately processed (mono) lines you need the big HX brothers, or even the old HD500/X. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

As you can check by yourself by reading the already dowloadable POD GO CHEAT SHEET the stereo RETURN can be used as AUX stereo input. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

In my opinion it is more likely that some frets on the neck of the guitar are no longer perfectly aligned with the others, or the strings are too close to the fretboard, or the truss rod need to be adjusted a little, or the strings are too old. Moreover, some types of amps and settings tend to sonically emphasize the small imperfections of the connected instrument. Problems in bending in the area around the 12th key onwards are often indicative of the need to make a new setup to the instrument (if the strings are still new). I happened to have the same problem, and with new strings and/or new setup I solved everything. The plain unwound strings (like the first 3 e,b,g) if defective or too old/worn out easily give the described symptoms. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

In the chain of the POD GO you have always: Noise Gate, Preset EQ, Wah, Volume Pedal, FX Loop.. then you can add up to 4 effects, and only 1 amp model. I guess you can move some of the blocks around in the chain, but not 100% freely as you can do with the big brothers or even with the old POD HD500/X. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

You're welcome.. I was hoping it was a good solution.. if you do a search online about drag and drop problems in windows 10 you will find lot of results with various solutions/workarounds .. it seems to be a problem that occured to several people. Good luck! _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Given for granted that with the POD you are going direct to a flat response system (or heaphones) and the output mode is set to Direct/Studio, normally you shouldn't really need to use any EQ at all to brighten up a Park amp (or other Marshall amps). Make sure you are using the bright channel version of the model, set the Presence control properly to get the a fair amount of brightness and turn down some the BASS control if it is mudding everything as it can easily happen. Also, don't forget that there are several cabs/mics at disposal to choose from which represent at least 50% of the final tone. If the whirling effect/artifacts (I guess you mean sort of untuned dissonant ghost notes parallel to the normal ones) is annoying you, turn down the HUM parameter value. Consider trying the single input approach to get a more defined sound, especially if your pickups are humbucker or active. Also, sometimes people change the input impedance to a low value less than 1 megahom and then forget it, but this setting can significantly darken the input signal. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Even with only one DSP the models per se will behave identically to those of the big brothers (a single modern DSP is enough for one HX amp model plus a few blocks), but overall if in the chain there are some FXs in addition to the amp model the device final tone will be somewhat different due to the device input having a fixed 1 megahom impedance. A variable/automatically adaptable impedance is one of the factors which made the difference between the Eleven Rack, POD HD, Axe FX and the previous old modeling technology devices, ie to get a response of the models more faithful to that of to the real things modeled. The above observation doesn't mean that you can't get good results from the models even having only a fixed 1 megahom impedance input circuit, but unless the LT or HX patches are set on purpose to use a fixed 1 megahom impedance instead of automatically changing the impedance depending on the first FX in the chain, the POD GO and its big brothers will sound somewhat different from each other. If this were not true, it would mean that in all these years the modelers makers have made fun of us with the importance of having variable/automatically adaptable impedance to obtain even more realistic results. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
