  1. If your POD USB port is not damaged you can try the following firmware flashing procedure in safe mode: disconnect everything from the device connect the power cable while pressing the nav down button (the LCD screen will say "update flash") connect the USB cable (the device will be recognized by the computer if the USB is ok) run the Line 6 Monkey program (the device should be detected by the program) select "flash memory" and "re-install latest version" when done restart your POD if the above procedure worked ok to solve the boot loop issue, don't forget to do also a global reset and finally the pedal calibration If the USB is broken the above procedure would be impossible to do, and the port should be repaired as soon as possible. At times also a faulty power supply, a bad VDI cable connecting the POD to a Variax could be the culprits of the boot loop issue. Also corrupted presets/patches could cause problems. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  2. When weird behaviors of the POD happen the suggested cure is always the same, ie: 1) - save your patches to your computer 2) - re-install the latest firmware without retaining your patches when asked during the flashing procedure 3) - do a global reset (important step which needs to be done after any flashing, to avoid unexpected weird behaviors) 4) - do a pedal calibration (important step which needs to be done after any reset, to avoid unexpected weird behaviors) 5) - re-load your previously saved patches in your device by using the editor _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  3. As you can verify by yourself here: $100Instant Rebate on POD HD500X Plus free HD ModelPacks – a $99 value the above offer is only for the purchase of a new POD HD500X and is only available to Line 6 customers with mailing addresses in the United States. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  4. You're welcome!.. I would suggest also to give a read to the downloadable advanced guide, "Features & Functionality" chapter in particular.. link here: POD HD500 Advanced Guide v2.10 _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  5. Drag and drop all the effects dedicated to channel A to the upper line (after the split point) in the screen, and drag and drop all the effects dedicated to channel B to the lower line, in the mixer block make sure that channel A is 100% panned to the LEFT, and channel B is 100% panned to the RIGHT. Connect the LEFT and RIGHT outputs to the different amps you are using as needed. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  6. Watch all the following short video clip, in particular at 3.55 they also say that no dirty pedals are used by Neil Young, but just a customized LP, a cranked tweed Deluxe, and a gizmo to easily change by remote the amp settings,.. That's it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yq2CcsRmtnw _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips eg the single input approach benefits
  7. Do a simple patch by yourself with a cranked Deluxe Reverb model, add some reverb, before the amp for a vintage little messy response, or after the amp for a cleaner more modern response. You could also add a marshall type amp model in parallel for a beefier sound. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

  9. What you need to know is that the POD always sends automatically a MIDI program change every time you select one of its presets. The automatic MIDI program changing is a fixed behavior that can not be deactivated, but the good news is that by default it happens only on the general MIDI channel set for the device. Solution: The MIDI commands sent through your patches can be set to a different (than the device general one) MIDI channel and the same different channel can be set in your amp to respond accordingly, and to ignore the MIDI program changes sent automatically by the device when selecting patches. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  10. Whenever you try a new patch through the editor you must send/save it to the device to make it permanent and use it even when the device is disconnected. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  11. Go to DOWNLOADS section of this website and verify by yourself which are the latest versions available.. 12. Good that you have sorted it out.. In any case you don't get any new factory presets/patches when you buy the model packs, you get only the new amp models which you can find listed among the other stock ones into the amp menu when you build/tweak a patch. Also, if you press and hold the VIEW button on the device to access the system settings and go to the last page 12/12 you can see all the model packs which have been successfully authorized of which the amp models are ready to be selected and used. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  13. Given that the Variax modeling is in simple terms a make-up applied to the pure signal coming from each single string (ie each string is processed separately), obviously if the pure sound (still make-up free) darkens due to string wear, even the "make-up" applied will have a somewhat different effect on it. In particular the models (both electric and acoustic) in the Variax were constructed and applied over the pure (piezo-transduced) signals coming from each of the "10-46 nickel wound D'Addario EXL110BT Balanced Tension" strings. If you change brand/gauge/type obviously the make-up free pure tone will change, and conseguently also the results of the applied modeling, which thing can be good or bad depending on your taste and needs. Similarly if you change the piezo transducers with a different type it will affect the results of the applied modeling too. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  14. Is your mailing address in the United States? In the pdf you posted above is written in red "United States promo only" and in the "Terms and Condition" at the bottom of the page: "This offer is only available to Line 6 customers with mailing addresses in the United States." In my opinion an unfair condition by Line6, but unfortunately it is as it is. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

  17. rewire both pickups "backwards" as they were and probably the bridge PU will work again as before.. probably they were wired "backward" (as you say) for a reason
  18. Don't rely to the numbers, the same number can give much different results for each different patch.. especially comparing the cleans to the distorted ones the volume value needed in each case can easily differ much from the other, generally the cleans need higher volume level values/numbers than the distorted ones.. In my previous post I said use only the ears to make decisions and set each level (number), and when I said use the chosen clean patch as a reference I meant to say memorize your perception of its volume (again don't see the numbers or db meters), and set the leveles of the other patches to get the same volume perception of your reference patch, all by ear. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  19. Before gig you should level your patches, and possibly at gig volume.. using db meters as a reference for leveling/comparing different patches is not a good method , as they work quite differently than human perception.. use only the ears, choose a clean patch, set the maximum possible volume for it without getting unintentional distortion, and use it as a reference to set the volume of all other patches, clean ones and in particular distorted ones _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  20. Among the Pod HD 500 amp models there is not the equivalent of the Chemical X (belonging to POD XT modeling technology IIRC).. Its name is due to the fact that its main components are unknown and secret (X). But rumors say it is a modded Marshall JMP.. so by pushing some of the available Marshall based amp models you could come close.. The amp models belonging to previous modeling technology are optional, you can have only some of them if you buy the HD model packs, which at the moment of writing are on sale with 50% discount. The list of all the old amp models available with the model packs (model packs which for the record include also amp models ported down from Helix modeling technology) is: Line 6 Insane Line 6 Big Bottom Line 6 Variac'ed Plexi Line 6 Purge Line 6 Aggro Line 6 Smash Line 6 Octone Line 6 Acoustic Pete Anderson Custom _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

  22. kneeling on the floor like a molock worshipper??....ah ah ah ah.. lol Jokes apart, It's not clear why you could not keep connected both the guitar and the mic at the same time. Even if the mic is still connected it works only if its physical input is selected as a source in the input settings of the patch you are using. The same thing goes for the guitar, its signal works only if its physical input is selected as input in the current patch.. So, where is the problem? However, the answer to the original question is: there is no way to assign a FS to the mic to activate/deactivate it. (even Molock cannot help!) Eventually, if the mic signal passes only from one of the 2 parallel paths you could find different ways to mute that path with a FS, eg by placing into it a volume block set fixed to zero, so that when you turn it on with the assigned FS it mutes the signal _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

  24. when you select channel A (presumably to use your real amp fully) the amp model and its cab/mic model should normally be disabled, therefore the output mode doesn't really matter given that it affects only the amp model signal (which you shouldn't use in this case) so there is no need to change it, and you can leave the Studio/Direct one. the other output modes could/should be used/selected when you want to use instead the amp modeling and your real amp at the same time, eg you want to use a pre-amp model + a cab/mic model and send that signal to the Return input of your real amp, or to the the front input of the same amp. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  25. Normally you shouldn't even have the option to choose which pedal is which.. When an Expression Pedal is connected to the PEDAL 2 input on the back of POD HD500, the on-board Pedal controls EXP 1 and Pedal 2 controls EXP 2, this is a fixed scheme that can not be changed. But there could be device behavior problems with patches created and saved previously with a different than the actual pedal configuration (ie with just the on -board pedal, or with also the 2nd pedal) the user is using. To avoid this issue, you should build from scratch your patches with a certain pedal configuration already in place, and save them. When you will reuse the same patches the pedal configuration must be the same already in place that you used when you saved them. This problem could be due to what I said before. Another thing which you should know (if you didn't already) is that after every time you install the firmware, you should always do a global reset and then a pedal calibration. If you miss the above steps, there could be issues or weird behaviors of the device. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
