Correct, but I would specify that the pre-built eq curves are applied only to the signal of the selected active cab (live voiced).. if the cab is not active in the patch, the output mode setting does not really matter. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

pod hd500 1 Preset, 2 units, different Amp-Parameters - please help me
hurghanico replied to Smashcraaft's topic in POD HD
It should work.. certainly the ideal would have been that both devices were "X", both because no conversion would have been necessary to share the patches, and also because since you build your patches on the less powerful device, you will never take advantage of that 20% more resources available in the other unit, for example to be able to build 2-independent-complete-rigs-in-1 patch, which could be very useful in some cases. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips- 9 replies

The mismatching versions issue could happen when you install manually some of the softwares. It shouldn't happen if you do all your installations and updates through Monkey. In any case IMO L6 should activate to resolve these discrepancies. Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe that the best and more reliable converter-tool is the Editor itself (even if it is still a little buggy from ages), by using the drag and drop method to load the patches or setlists which need to be converted.. Simply changing the file extension is not a good conversion method for me, since doing so the parameters which would need to be adapted wouldn't change accordingly. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips- 9 replies

That above here is the only good reason to use the 4CM, and basically only to be able to put some POD effects like delay, reverb, and some modulation between the pre-amp and the power-amp (ie in the FX LOOP of the real amp) instead of all in front of it. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Thanks!.. My own forum board website is still active, when I had the idea of making it I hoped it would be attended by many more people, but for the moment I have to settle for an average of about 70 visitors a day from various countries, it's not much but at least it's not nothing. (today 28 november 2019 stats below here) Considering that apart from my personal time (not a little) spent initially especially in the design and implementation phase of the board (I never made a website before), I didn't spend even 1 penny to promote it and for its hosting, I can't really complain about the current results. I have other things much more important to do and also some new projects that I would like to realize, when I have some free time I try to add some articles to my site, I make updates if they are necessary, and I control its traffic. Since several visitors read the contents but rarely write, I'm thinking of transforming it from forum to read only blog, but it takes time and so I have to wait for the right moment to do it. It's true, I was going to leave this Line6 forum, but I'm still here, apparently that moment hasn't arrived yet. Don't worry about your english, I'm not a mother tongue either. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips- 9 replies

Welcome back Smashcraaft! Questions: - are all the same model packs authorized in both devices? - is your computer authorized? The fact that the Black Panel Pete (which is a Deluxe Reverb based amp) has been replaced by the stock Deluxe Reverb does not seem a simple coincidence and makes me think that the Editor on the left behaves as it doesn't see the model packs, whereas I guess the original patch probably has been built the first time with the model pack installed/authorized.. Also, I suspect that being the 2 editors basically identical to each other even if not 100%, who knows, some weird overlapping data between the two could have occurred, but I'm more inclined to believe in the previous reason. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips- 9 replies

..could be that the last time you used it 3 months ago you changed the device output mode for a particular connection type and forgot to set it back to the one that was set before or that you would use normally? The wrong output mode could easily give weird and fuzzy sounds. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

as already mentioned there is no way to change the output mode remotely .. in any case for the signal of the patches made to connect the POD directly to the PA you should always use the Studio/Direct output mode.. for the patches signal that goes from the POD to a miced amp, if you do not enable the cab/mic models (as I think it would be better to do), the chosen output mode does not matter, and therefore you can continue to use the Studio/Direct , so in essence there is no need to change the output mode unless you want to enable the cab/mic model in the POD->AMP patches. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Dead Piezo Pickup?
hurghanico replied to the29band's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
bad grounding between the piezo and the saddle slot due to accumulated dirt.. being careful not to sever its small connected cable gently extract the piezo element from the saddle (you could use adhesive tape to grab it) and clean well both the piezo and its slot in the saddle with isopropyl alcohol or another good cleaner, possibly before reinserting the piezo rotate it 180° to provide a new side of the piezo to the string _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
..trying with any another power supply with the following specs: 9V DC, 1100mA (or more; 3000mA if the device is powering also a Variax), barrel size: diameter: 5mm, center pin (negative): 2.5mm these are the original DC-3G specs: ...and here is a compatible PS which works perfectly and costs less: UpBright 9V AC/DC Adapter Compatible with Line 6 DC-3g _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

If you already tried to adjust the LCD contrast with no avail (check also the power supply), the only and probably best option to fix your device is to be serviced by an authorized center.. If you are good at soldering you could try to replace the LCD screen by yourself, but the the ones described as specifically for the HD500 currently are almost impossible to find.. The one for the HD500X looks very similar if not identical, but I don't really know if it could work fine also with the HD500: Line 6 50-02-0156 LCD Screen For POD HD500X ...or you could try/buy the same "GC1286400FFWJ-B" 128x64 LCD Panel module directly from China which costs less money, but needs more time for delivery: LCD Panel 12864B The official name of the LCD replacement for the HD500 is "Line-6-50-02-0142" _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

(the icons above change and say what will be the next action if you press the corresponding footswitches) When you press the RECORD footswitch the first time the loop recording starts (and everything was recorded previously is erased), when you then press the RECORD FS the 2nd time you set the loop time lenght and the overdubbing starts, to exit the overdubbing you have to press the RECORD FS for the 3th time (playback doesn't stop), if while only the playback is active you press the RECORD button you start overdubbing again. To stop all the recording or the playback or both, you press the STOP button. (This action doesn't erase the recorded loops, you can start again the playback and then the overdubbing whenever you want). (Even if you exit the Looper mode the recorded loops will be still in memory ready to be played back and/or overdubbed again until you turn off the device or engage the tuner). To erase the recorded loops you have to press the RECORD FS while the playback is stopped. If you want different sounds for the recording and the next loops or live playing you have to move the looper at the end of the chain (POST position) with the PRE/POST button (before starting the recording). _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

There is no need to get support for the model packs. In any case you can still register the POD serial number into your account and get official Line6 support for it in case of need.. Moreover, the POD is not going to receive any update/upgrade in the future. It will be like it is currently until its EOL. The unit serial number and the model pack license number are 2 different things, if he deleted the HD500X from his account it doesn't necessarily mean that he doesn't own anymore the license for the model pack, maybe he want to sell the license separately to make some more money. But it could also be that he bought the same unit second hand and never received the license (like you) to use the model packs. However as already said previously your model packs are safe as soon as you don't run the license manager (and you don't need to). The only utility of the license manager is to authorize paid by you (or gifted) software to be used on a certain system (computer or device). And if you don't want to reinstall the firmware (you don't need to, since the unit is working fine) you could still use the factory setlists I provided previously, and do a global reset and pedal calibration as I already suggested. Doing so all patches and general parameters will return to their defaults. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

no risk until you use the license manager.. and why you should ever run it? however you could ask the previous owner to transfer the license from his account to your account by using the "gift" option.. if you still want to buy the bass model pack (and lose the vintage and metal ones which thing will make your unit less valuable/desiderable in case you want to resell it) at least wait for the upcoming black friday to get 30% discount if Line6 will do it also this year as usual.. but do as you like, it's your business.. Good luck! _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Not sure if I understood correctly.. If you meant to say to connect a patch-cable between the POD FX LOOP SEND and the POD FX LOOP RETURN, I don't see why you ever should.. If that's the case the only good reason I know to do such a connection is to use the FX LOOP block as a level booster. When in the chain the FX LOOP block is turned off it is simply bypassed by the signal (no need for a patch cable) _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Whatever you would like to do there is no way to change the device output mode remotely by MIDI.. Previously I thought that you had some acoustic patches of which the signal should better go directly to the PA and some electric patches (presumably without power-amp and cab/mic models enabled) of which the signal would go in the power amp of your amp .. .. but if I guess correctly you would rather send the signal of some full amp/cab/mic model patches to the PA, and the signal of some pre-amp only based patches to the real amp.. well, surely the signal of the full amp/cab/mic model based patches going directly to the PA need the Studio/Direct output mode.. the good news are that if you don't use/enable the cab/mic model as generally you should better do when sending the signal instead to the power-amp of your amp (ie directly to the amp RETURN input), the chosen output mode doesn't really matter, as it affects only the signal of cab/mic model if enabled. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

You can not change the device output setting remotely by MIDI.. But there is a solution to get what you need, ie you can put the FX LOOP block at the end of those patches of which the signal should go directly to the PA, doing so their signal will be deviated toward the (stereo capable) SEND output on the rear panel instead of going through the standard outputs. (Eventually, if you wish, you can then turn off the FX LOOP block remotely via MIDI and therefore let the signal go through the standard outputs). An other option would be to take advantage of the stereo separation of the LEFT and RIGHT channels, by hard panning all the patches to the LEFT or the RIGHT depending on which direction they should go, and connecting just one mono cable to each different output target, doing so obviously all the signals can be only mono. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

not so sure about what said by "spaceatl" in the above sentence, but you never know.. ------------------------------------------------ I don't take responsibility for what I'm about to say because I've never had the need to test what would happen if I didn't have the model pack licenses. What I can say with certainty is that in my case if I reinstall the firmware the model packs remain where they are (ie I don't have to reinstall/reauthorize them). I add that I usually prefer to use the firmware update procedure in offline mode (always available option) which requires that I have already downloaded the firmware file which is then used by the monkey program to do the flashing. I always choose to do this to prevent any accidental line problems from causing the delicate flashing procedure to be interrupted, which thing would brick the device. So I assume that by updating the firmware offline as I do, the line6 server has no way of checking at that moment whether I own the license or not (registered in my line6 account). In any case I have been told by other users who have model packs in their device that the only program that verifies the license is the "license manager", which can then block the authorization to use the model packs if the license is not present in your account. AFAIK there is not any place on this site to download the default patches, but time ago I saved all the default setlists belonging to the latest firmware, so here they are: 2.62 - L6 setlists.zip ... since they are for the HD500 (which I own) but they are 100% identical to the ones for the HD500X (just the file extension is different), use the drag and drop method to load them into the Editor and send them to the device, it will work no doubt. Even if you decide not to do the firmware flashing, I suggest to do at least the global reset and the pedal calibration (linked in my previous post), so all the global settings will be resetted to their defaults. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

- download the monkey program from this site and install it.. - with the POD connected through USB run the monkey program and install the latest firmware - do a global reset - finally do a pedal calibration FYI if your unit has the optional/additional model packs installed, don't run the license manager if you don't own the license to use them, otherwise you'll lose them. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

My old XP OS still crashes (BSOD) occasionally, especially when I disconnect the device after having used it even momentarily as the OS main audio interface (eg to listen some online media clips), it happens despite I diligently remember to set back the audio integrated card to be the main interface before disconnecting the POD. Based on the Nirsoft’s BlueScreenView program (linked in my previous post) here is the list of the drivers involved in the crash: _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Remove the bottom panel of the device by unscrewing only the screws along the perimeter (don't remove the central ones) and check if the ribbon cable connecting the pedal small PCB to the main PCB board is still firmly plugged in both PCBs. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
