  2. No alternative AFAIK.. However, I tried just now to download from this site the 36.9 MB - POD HD500X Edit v2.27 Installer.exe.. I have a good connection and it took about 2 minutes, it seems slow from the source but still acceptable.. Who knows, maybe because of the actual panic from Covid-19 the lines of communication are a bit clogged. If I could I would have attacked the file to this post, but currently the max size I could attack is 1.25MB _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  3. The POD Master Volume physical knob control affects all the POD outputs except the FX LOOP SEND and the digital signal going through the USB and S/PIDF. I guess that by connecting digitally the POD to an AI with S/PDIF (possibly small and standalone, basically working just as a D/A converter) and connecting the AI analog outputs to the FOH could be a way to have the POD master volume affecting only the level of your directly connected monitors. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

  6. You are welcome Guitarlogic. I'm sorry you haven't solved it. But I have an idea you might like .. since you said that the headphone output works well (both L & R), maybe you could try using it with a Y cable (ie 1 stereo to 2 mono) to make the connection to your monitors. The headphone output signal probably is a little hotter than what you'd get from the standard outputs, but you can adjust your monitors and POD master volume as needed. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  7. FYI if you set the POD to use the footswitches in FS 5-8 mode, you can use all 8 footswiches to switch on/off effects all the time. The only difference with the FS ABCD mode is that in FS 5-8 mode you have to press 2 footswitches (instead of just 1) every time you want change patch: ie you have to press one of the bank up/down buttons (doesn't matter which one of the 2) and then one of the ABCD FS you want, that's it!.. very simple. The long explanation is that (only) when in FS 5-8 mode, when you press one of the the Bank UP/DOWN FS it doesn't change immediately the Bank, but it puts instead the POD TEMPORARILY in PRESET CHANGE mode, so during this temporary state you can select one of the ABCD patches, or you can change bank with a further Bank UP/DOWN FS press and then select one of the ABCD presets. In any case as soon as you choose one patch all 8 footswitches start working again only for switching on/off effects. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  8. You've probably already reset. no confirmation message appears at the end of the reset procedure which occurs silently. what is ascertainable is that all the global settings (if they have been changed) are restored to the default values (eg the screen contrast), and also the names of the setlists return as the default (but the patches contained therein are not touched). --------------------- for a deeper and more radical reset you could try to install the latest firmware (with the Monkey app) and then do the global reset again. if even doing so the problem persists, then your unit need to be physically repaired _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  9. I gave you already the link to the reset instructions in my previous post.. However you should hold down the left arrow on the navigation button while powering the unit. That's it. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  10. Surely the test you did excludes the computer and the driver installed. Also try swapping the L and R cables to make sure none of them are defective, and if you use jack adapters remember that they too can stop working well. I also recommend to do a Global Reset, or to reset even more deeply do a firmware reinstallation/reflashing followed by a Global Reset. (But remember to save your POD patches to your computer first.) Pod HD Series Reset Procedures (FYI, a global reset should always be done after every firmware update to avoid strange unexpected device behaviors, such as what happened suddenly to yours, so if the last time you installed the firmware you didn't, this could be the reason for your problem ). If the problem persists even after the reset, then all that remains is to take the POD to an authorized technician to repair it. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  11. Try the following: disconnect the device from your computer, turn it off and on again, check if there is still a difference between the Left and Right outputs. If there is still difference, it could be a POD hardware problem, but it could be also a corrupted patch you are currently using (try a different one). If you are using jack adaptors check them too, and check also the cables. If with the POD disconnected from the computer (in which case the windows driver cannot still affect the POD signal) there is no difference between L and R, then obviously it means that the problem comes from the computer. If you have the chance to use an other computer, try it, as a final test. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  12. The only way to get on recording the same tone and sitting in the mix perception of your guitar is to monitor everything (backing track and live sound) through the same speakers (or headphones) all the time. If during your recording you monitor your guitar through a guitar amp, you'll never get the same tone on recording, never!..never!! So, use flat response monitors (or headphones) for monitoring, tweak your tone until sounds as you want, play over the backing track (remember, don't change your monitoring system), tweak again the patch if necessary, do your recordings. Doing so, you can be 100% sure that when you'll listen again to everything you recorded (through the same speakers used on recording) it will sound exactly as it was during recording. Nothing more, nothing less. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  13. Correct! I would say that the above Options 1 and 2 are the answer, your choice depending if your really need re-amping or not with the POD tone. However FYI if your audio interface is provided with S/PDIF you have also the option with the POD (and a digital cable) to send only the dry signal to your AI and DAW while still listening to the wet signal. So in this case no special built dry/wet double chain patches would be needed. There is a dedicated system setting in the POD to decide if the S/PDIF should send the wet or dry signal. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  14. First off this is the POD HD forum.. ;) ah ah.. If I'm not wrong the Spider Metal Green setting should correspond to a Line 6 Original (Hi-Gain) amp model called "Line 6 Agro" with the following description: An aggressive high gain amp with a unique Mid control that will take you though the entire gamut of tone on one knob. How did we do it? The mid knob for this model changes the character of the distortion. When set to minimum the distortion exhibits Fuzz pedal characteristics. When the Mid is set to noon it creates creamy modern high gain amp tones a la Soldano. And when the Mid knob is turned up to Max it’s very much reminiscent of that Class A Vox® sound. Of course, then there are all the places in between... Not sure if to get the above amp model you need to buy and install the Power Pack on your XTL or if it is already included with the latest firmware. On the POD HD the above amp model is included in the optional HD Metal Pack. In any case the same amp model will not sound100% identical in your Spider amp, XTL or POD HD because each of these devices uses a different cab speaker (real or modeled), but with some tweakings you can make them more close to each other. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  15. What you downloaded is the latest firmware version file for the POD HD500 useful to install the firmware in offline mode (instead of online in real time).. With the device connected to your computer you need to run the Monkey app, select the Flash Memory between the listed items, and then press the button UPDATE FROM FILE which will open a window to find/select that file you already downloaded. Doing so will start the firmware flashing procedure, don't touch the device until the flashing ends, and follow all the on screen instructions. After all that you will need to do a Global Reset and finally a Pedal Calibration: https://line6.com/support/page/kb/pod/pod-hd500-hd500x/after-pod-hd500x500-flashre-flashupdate-mandatory-global-settings-reset33-r160/ PS. Using the offline mode to update the firmware (as you are going to do) is more safe than using the online method, because there is no risk to brick the device due to possible internet line interruptions. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  16. Probably a sort of CC to Sysex translator/mapper placed between the POD (still using its footswitches to send MIDI commands) and your sampler could be the answer, like the following: "The Event Processor can map MIDI events or ranges of MIDI events to other MIDI events, filter MIDI events or ranges of MIDI events, trigger MIDI events, toggle between MIDI events, sequence through MIDI events, scale or crossfade MIDI messages, transpose notes, scale velocities, map to and from System Exclusive, NRPN, Bank Select messages" ---->> MIDI Solutions Event Processor price new $ 149 _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  17. Hi Kukuruza, I've been the MIDI stupid (not you), I'm sorry if I accidentally fueled the hope that it is possible to control the start/stop functions of your sequencer remotely from the POD. I realized now that your device for those functions does not require standard MIDI control changes or program changes (which however never go beyond the value 127) but instead SYSTEM REALTIME MESSAGES which the POD is absolutely unable to transmit. Here you can find a post/thread about what I said in regard to your device: https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/midi-switch-controler-for-electribe-management.1862266/#post-24793695 Forgive me for wasting your time. Good luck! _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  18. I never used the Korg ESX device, however trying to do a quick search I found its MIDI implementation data --> http://www.korg-datastorage.jp/Software/MIDIImp/ESX.pdf , where at page 2 chapter 2.RECOGNIZED RECEIVE DATA is written: 2-2 SYSTEM REALTIME MESSAGES +--------+---------------------------------------------+ | Status | Description | | [H] | | +--------+---------------------------------------------+ | F8 | Timing Clock * | | FA | Start * | | FB | Continue * | | FC | Stop * | | FE | Active Sensing | +--------+---------------------------------------------+ * :This message is recognized when the "Clock" is set to "EXT" or "Auto". The given MIDI commands numbers are given in HEX format, which can be easily converted by using an online converter like the following: https://www.thecalculatorsite.com/math/hex-to-decimal.php So the needed commands converted to decimal format seem to be: Start = 250 Continue = 251 Stop = 252 which MIDI commands seem to be recognized only when the device "Clock" is set to "EXT" or "Auto" Try the above values and settings, and let me know if it works. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  19. If both the loop and the live tones change the same way when you change FX or preset it means that the Looper is currently placed before (at the start of) the virtual chain, thus recording and playing back the dry unprocessed signal which is then processed in real time every time is played back again and again. Solution: while the device is in Looper mode (ie Looper FS led is on) press the FS3 (PRE/POST) to move the Looper block after (at the end of) the virtual chain, doing so the Looper will record and play back the final already processed signal, which obviously will not be processed again thus it will not change tone if you then change preset or FX for your live sound. This Looper setting is global (ie not per preset) and can only be done directly on the device, not through the Editor. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  20. Hi there!.. It happens that when I find something interesting I save it in some form to be able to reuse it quickly if I need it again later. Some time ago in a site dedicated to Line6 devices called "Vettaville.nl" there were several interesting articles, some of which concerned the Variax world. I managed to save something of that material in my archive dedicated to modeling stuff, and here follows attached to this post the part that probably talks about the info you are looking for.. Although the examples therein reported refer to the first generation Variax and the non-HD Workbench, the explained concepts remain the same even for the new generation Variax guitars. Here it is: WB Tutorial 6 290107.pdf
  21. Main differences between the 2 mentioned options: Option A = 4 cables needed, you have the chance to put FX models also between the Mooer and the external/real power-amp+cab.. Option B = 3 cables needed, all the FX models will be before the Mooer.. Given that in the above scenario the Mooer power-amp+cab models signal is going still into another (real) power-amp+cab, I would say that Option B probably is already a more than enough solution from a practical point of view.. That said, devices dedicated to IR use have sense if you use them for direct recording and if you connect them to flat response amplification systems, which no amps for electric guitar are by any means, if you don't use flat response systems you will never get the faithful and complete reproduction of the original sound captured into the IR, so in the end what would be the real advantage of using an IR loader in this case?.. just for more variety? If I was you for now I would use the Mooer only for direct recording, and I would wait until I can buy a decent flat response amplification system to use it also live. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  22. There shouldn't be any problems connecting an external overdrive stomp box between the guitar and the POD. Why on earth should there be? In regard instead to the overdrive and distortion models available in the POD, IMO most of them sound very good, especially when using the single input approach in the chain of the patches, and by setting the right amount of high and low cuts on the chosen modeled cabs. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  23. Theoretically/pratically it is possible... BUT the problem is (if that really matters to you) that you can choose only one output mode for all the POD outputs, and since you are connecting also directly to a PA it must be Studio/Direct, which mode could be not ideal to connect the device also to a power amp + external cab. Actually there are output modes which are more suited to connect the POD to a power amp + ext. cab, and they matter if the cab model is included/activated in the patches (as it should be since you're connecting also directly to the PA). Experiment and see if by using the Studio/Direct output mode (absolutely necessary for direct to PA connections) you can still get good results with the connection to your power amp. Surely the sound coming from the PA and your power-amp + cab will be different from each other. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  24. Did you put also a FX LOOP block in the virtual chain as you should have been done to make the 4CM working properly? If the FX LOOP block is missing (or if it is turned off) when using the 4CM the pre-amp part of your amp is bypassed which means that most amp controls can not affect the tone anymore. You can find a 4CM scheme description here: 4 Cable Method _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
  25. If you bought a used unit with the model packs already installed you should still have the add on amp models listed together with the stock ones (unless.. read on..).. (FYI installing model packs doesn't add any new presets or setlists using the add on amp models, what you get is simply that the added models will be visible/available when you build/edit patches) If you are not the owner of the model packs license (meaning that the license is not registered in your Line6 account) as soon as you run the license manager with the device connected the model packs will be de-authorized and the add on amp models will disappear.. If you buy or you already own the model packs license, once it is (automatically) registered in your Line6 account you should do the following procedure to authorize manually your device and finally see and use the add on amp models: ---->> Installing HD Model Packs on HD500X/500/HD/HD Pro/HD Pro X (easily understandable, although it could have been written better) _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
