Setting the POD as the main audio interface in place of the still present integrated one can cause conflicts on some PC.. Unfortunately when you install the POD drivers the procedure sets automatically the POD as the main audio interface for everything.. The problem is that as soon as the PC loses the connection with the device (which is replacing the main integrated one) it crashes. The connection between PC and POD can be lost for several reasons like: - disconnecting physically the device or turning it off while the PC is still turned on.. - the ASIO driver buffers settings can't handle the system requests in a given moment and the driver hangs/crashes.. - bad USB cable or USB ports, etc. - USB 3 works bad with PODs (use always USB 2 only ports) The only way to set effectively the POD NOT as the main interface is while it is turned on and connected by USB, opening the PC audio control panel and setting back the integrated audio interface as the main AI. Then in each program/application where you need to specifically use the POD as AI (like a DAW or media player) you can use its dedicated and independent audio settings to select the POD. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

The footswitches can not be assigned directly to parameters, but only to switch on/off the blocks... ..AND to send MIDI commands pre-programmed into the patches, like preset/setlists changes, on/off switching of functions/blocks, or parameters values.. eg if you connect a MIDI cable from the MIDI OUT back to the MIDI IN of the POD you could take advantage of the still unused footswitches and program them to do 2 interesting tricks explained in two posts in my website: MEGA PLAYLIST SWITCHING SETLISTS ON THE FLY _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Assigning controller to amp drive or volume does not work?
hurghanico replied to mara17's topic in POD HD
At this point it seems probable that your POD has an hardware problem, and if so it needs to be serviced to go back to normal operation. If you didn't already, open a support ticket to speak directly with the Line6 official support guys in the hope of finding the best solution. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
Make sure to connect the POD to USB 2 only ports, avoid USB 3 ports and USB hubs _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

not a bad price for a used HD500X, but you should carefully check that everything is working fine. not so easy if you don't know well the device and what to check: obviously all the knobs and switches should be checked, the audio outputs (headphones included) and FX LOOP connections, USB port (easily broken in used units) and it is very important, the expression pedal etc. some of the above listed things need the activation of some blocks to be properly checked. if you have a friend who knows quite well the device let him check it for you. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Yes, it will.. (avoid the suggested above splitting trick, it is not a good solution).. The ideal would have been for the jamhub to have had separate outputs so that the mix of the individual channels could be perfected in the house board. But since the jamhub has a single general stereo output, the procedure should be as follows: - set the pan controls of your channels and your friend, - standing in front of the stage, adjust the input levels of all the channels used on the jamhub until the mix is ideal. Ok, now the most important part has been made. At this point for each of you there is nothing left to do but to set the channels monitoring levels on the jamhub as you like, your personal monitoring settings will have no influence on the general signal outgoing to the house board.. Just, in case the house board is not provided with a stereo input channel, you'll need to run a Y cable (1 stereo to 2 mono L and R) from the jamhub, and use 2 channels on the house board, one panned LEFT and the other panned RIGHT. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

it is quite easy: - connect the two XLR outputs (or the two 1/4" jack outputs) of the POD to 2 channels of the jamhub, pan one channel to the LEFT and the other channel to the RIGHT, - connect your in ear system to the headphones output of one of your chosen L and R channels and on that channel set: the monitoring level of your 2 (panned) channels, the monitoring levels of your friend (panned) channels, and the monitoring level of the backing track channel. your friend can do the same procedure and choose his preferred monitoring settings. the point is that whatever are the monitoring levels you choose for yourself, and the ones chosen by your friend, they should not affect at all the general stereo output level and the mix of the jamhub, which depend only on the input levels and pan settings set for each used channel.. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

POD HD500x EXP pedal not sweeping values (not cal) Tech help
hurghanico replied to REI_ARTHUR's topic in POD HD
The part you're looking for probably is the phototransistor Optek OP580.. I know they worked good as replacement for the POD X3L pedal optical sensors, and I strongly suspect that they would work perfectly on the HD500X too. datasheet As a possible fixing you could also try to heat the not working optical sensors with a hair dryer for 1 minute or 2.. Who knows?.. It could work. Also, make sure the cable plugs from the pedal pcb to the motherboard are firmly seated. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
Assigning controller to amp drive or volume does not work?
hurghanico replied to mara17's topic in POD HD
Yes, it always worked no problem on my old HD500. When non sense behaviors of the POD happen, the medicine (if it works) is always the same: global reset, necessarily followed by pedal calibration _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
Assigning controller to amp drive or volume does not work?
hurghanico replied to mara17's topic in POD HD
When you assign a parameter to a controller you have also to set its minimum and maximum settings (see the pic above here), otherwise if they are set to the same value the controller will do nothing. When you move any of the POD amp knobs the screen switches to "momentary amp knobs display", but only if that function is enabled in the system setup settings (first page). _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
I'm not going to suggest any specific brand of audio interfaces and monitors/speakers.. There are so many that could be chosen. All can I say is that nowdays an external and minimal audio interface could cost about 100 bucks new, but you can easily find used ones for much less, just first check carefully that its drivers are still updated to work with your PC current OS. There are basically 2 main paths which could be followed, which one depending on: 1 - if you want to record your performances by micing the tube amp 2 - if you want just to jam along the jam tracks without recording Case 1 (recording) is more complex because you need to mic (yes, you need also a mic) the real tube amp, and the miced signal should go into an external interface (you need one) and then recorded in a recording software (DAW). Case 2 (just jamming along, no recording) is much simpler, since the jam tracks playback could be simply managed by your PC with its integrated sound card connected to some decent speakers/monitors, better their quality/power and better the results of course. And your guitar connected to the POD in turn connected to the RETURN of the tube amp. All that said it's worth mentioning that when recording, a miced tube amp hardly will sound better than any of the available full models, which have been captured in a professional way and are ready to use especially for recording. The beautiful amp in the room full feeling never gets tranferred in a recording. Whatever you do live, when you listen to a recording what you'll hear is always a miced sound (real or modeled) which even if resembles the original one (if you used the real amp) is still different in its own way. Funny example: if I record a message in an answering machine anyone who knows me well can immediately recognize that it is me, but my voice still sounds quite different live (fortunately in this case, I would say).. How many times your voice have been recorded, and then listening back you had the reaction: but that's really me? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

POD HD500X and HD500 - Sharing Patch Settings
hurghanico replied to williamrobyasm's topic in POD HD
The four units (500, 500x, pro, pro x) share the same brain, but I consider the X version what the HD500 should have ideally been from the beginning. I use the HD500 no problem at all, but I would have preferred it was like the X version, which even if just for a 20% it is an improvement over its predecessor, even if it has been forced, thus it happened by chance, not previously planned. Sometimes chance or destiny reserves good surprises to those lucky enough to catch them at the right time. In regard to the OP owning a (possibly) broken 500, I would say to him that the X version should be considered more like a welcome completion of its predecessor than a big upgrade. A substantial upgrade would rather be to get one of the 3-4 high end modelers currently on the market. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
POD HD500X and HD500 - Sharing Patch Settings
hurghanico replied to williamrobyasm's topic in POD HD
Most of the time even I haven't reached the resource limit with my HD500 which I still use. I tend to build quite simple rigs 90% of the times.. but when I tried to create 2 patches in 1, or patches with a blend of 2 amp models for new sounds plus a minimum of effects, I reached the limit quite easily. actually there are several good reasons to create 2-patches-in-1 presets when needed, for example: 1 - to avoid time lag when changing patches 2 - not to suddenly cut the delay tail during patch change 3 - to play 2 different instruments (eg bass and guitar) connected to the same POD at the same time and then the many possible combinations of 2 amps and/or cabs and/or mics you could do to create different new sounds from those obtainable with rigs based on a single amp. No limits to the creativity, but.. hardware has limits... the higher the threshold the better .. The HD500 is a dual chain device for a reason, but the X version can do more fully what it was designed for, and therefore is a better device in comparison, and as such is worth more. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
POD HD500X and HD500 - Sharing Patch Settings
hurghanico replied to williamrobyasm's topic in POD HD
In reality it takes much less to reach the DSP limit with an HD500 just by trying to build fairly ordinary patches. It is sufficient to put 2 amp models in the chain (nothing bizarre or so unusual) and for sure you will not be able to use all the remaining blocks theoretically available with an HD500, with an X version you have more chances to succeed. Just a simple example (but I could do several others): to avoid the time lag (in some cases inappropriate) that happens in changing patches, a trick is to build 2-patches-in-1 taking advantage of the 2 parallel chains (which in this case alternate), creating a normal and independent rig in each of the parallel paths. In a case like the above one the total number of theoretically available blocks is barely enough. And that 20% more DSP resources of the X makes the theoretically total number of usable blocks more real. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
Yes, by saying backing tracks I meant to say jam tracks, same thing. The point is that if you want to use the POD to hear at the same time both the jam tracks and your live playing, ideally you shouldn't connect the POD to a tube amp, but you can if you want, if you do it the jam tracks will not sound at their best for sure, but your guitar will do. That's why if you want an all in one solution ideally it would be better to connect the POD to flat response monitors (if you know what I mean) instead of to a tube amp (not really suited also for jam tracks playback). So, given that you prefer to use a real tube amp for your guitar tone, ideally/at least the playback of the jam tracks should be done not through the POD but through a different audio interface and flat response speakers. But if you don't really care that the jam tracks sound lo-fi you can use the POD connected to a tube amp for both jam tracks playback and live guitar sound. You won't be arrested. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

POD HD500X and HD500 - Sharing Patch Settings
hurghanico replied to williamrobyasm's topic in POD HD
..except that the X version has 20% more DSP resources available thus lifting the reachable DSP maximum limit, to allow if/when needed the creation of particularly complex patches that require more resources. . ..the total number of available blocks in the chain is the same in both POD versions, but each of the available models consumes its particular quantity of resources.. ..and by combining in a patch some very resource hungry models you could easily hit the DSP limit well before having used all the blocks theoretically available.. here and only here is where the 20% more resources available in the X version makes the difference.. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
Backing tracks playback through a guitar amp certainly would be a quite bad solution. Therefore if you prefer to use a real tube amp with the POD, the backing track playback should be done through flat response monitors/speakers connected to your PC integrated sound card or to an external audio interface other than the POD in this case. In any case you could still use the Editor to tweak the parameters of your POD connected through USB even if you're not using it as audio interface. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Connect the POD to the amp input only if you use it just for the effects (ie no amp models).. You could put the POD in the FX LOOP of the tube amp no problem (let say just for using some effects and not amp models) but some effect models like overdrives and distortions would be in bad position in the chain, since usually they should be placed between the guitar and the pre-amp (real or modeled).. I would rather suggest to connect your guitar to the POD and the POD to the RETURN input of the tube amp. Doing so you, ie basically bypassing just the tube amp pre-amp, you could then nicely combine several HD pre-amp models with the real power-amp and speaker of the tube amp, plus all the FX models. IMO the above one is the simpler and effective way to connect the POD to a tube amp. Good and easy results are guarantee. In the above configuration you should preferably select the pre-amp version of the amp models available and disable the cab models. But if you don't want to bypass the pre-amp part of your amp (and you are not interested in using instead the pre-amp models), you should instead use the 4 cable method, which is a more flexible way of working but as its name says it requires 4 cables and more tweakings to work good. You can easily find several posts around about the 4CM if you are interested to it. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

POD HD 500X Driver Version 4.2.7.7. fail installation
hurghanico replied to gahtox's topic in POD HD
Could be.. ..but even if it was really possible without problems to make the PC speakers monitoring the POD in real time, it wouldn't be at all an advisable solution, actually quite horrid I would say. If instead of using decent monitors you have to use PC speakers (or better say speakers for PC), at least use external ones and connect them directly to the POD. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips -
Select Studio/Direct output mode. If your POD is very far from the FOH mixer and you need to use very very long cables to make the connection, and if the FOH mixer has a MIC level input channel available, use XLR.. otherwise use the standard 1/4" unbalanced jack output which can give a hotter LINE level signal if the 1/4" OUT switch near the pedal is set to LINE. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

As suggested in the downloadable advanced guide select the Studio/Direct output mode if you go direct to the FOH and use a flat response monitor/amp, or one of the other output modes depending on which guitar amp type you are connecting the device to and how. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

if you broke just the plastic of the PRESET knob it is very easy to replace.. if you broke just the plastic of 4-way button you need time and patience to disassemble your unit to work on the main board, and then reassemble everything. but if you broke also the encoder under the PRESET knob and/or the tactile switches under the 4-way button, you need at least decent equipment and desoldering/soldering skills to do well the replacement job without doing further damages. all that hoping that there are not further damages on the main board which you can't see at the moment from outside. if you never did such tech jobs don't do it now for the first time with your device, but let someone more expert doing it for you. the following should be the needed replacement parts (you might need not all of them): Line 6 30-45-0035 SAVE Knob For POD HD500 Line 6 24-12-0006 PODX3 Amp/Effects Encoder Line 6 30-27-0363 4-Way Button Top For Spider IV Line 6 30-27-0218 4 Way Right Button Bottom For POD HD 500 Line 6 30-63-0028 4-Way Button Retainer Ring For POD HD 500 Line 6 24-31-1105 6mm 4-pin Tactile Switch (one of these tactile switches for each not working direction) _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips

Could be.. there is a ribbon cable that connects the pedal to the main board.. the cable is connected via plugs (no soldering) but to prevent it from being accidentally disconnected it is secured in position even with hot glue .. it is unlikely that it can come off on its own due to vibrations, unless someone has previously unplugged it and removed the hot glue. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
