Right-angle VDI Cable for JTV?
psarkissian replied to avalon650's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Don't know, never seen one. -
" probably as many requests for a bouzouki model, as for wind chimes or a duck call. "--- Surprisingly enough,... nylon classical/Spanish guitar, bouzouki, balalaika and mandolin come up rather more often than I would have expected here and in Idea Scale, as obscure as they are. Mandola, shamisen and were part of the old Variax Acoustic guitars back in the day. I guess there is a resurgent interest in some of those more esoteric instruments again,... what was old may be becoming new again. Hmmmm,....

Right-angle VDI Cable for JTV?
psarkissian replied to avalon650's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Don't use CAT6, it's the wrong data rate frequency band. Use the VDI Ethercon, better ground insulated CAT5, and is the correct data rate frequency band. -
Yes, there's that, something other than current firmware. Same Models, with different adjustments and tweaks over time.

Replacing mag pickups Jtv-69
psarkissian replied to colly420's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Not so much the pots as it is the rest of the "active circuitry". These are not guitars with passive electronics, and so need to be treated differently. Third party pick-ups,... check the specs to be certain the DC/bulk resistance is between 6k and 8k Ohms. Be aware that modifications to the functionality of the guitar may void any warranty, so such modifications are at the customer's own risk. -
Submit it to Idea Scale,... - bouzouki - mandolin - balalaika - nylon classical/Spanish guitar ... just some of the submissions to Idea Scale. A number of those get submitted to, and considered by Line 6 people. They do see that more directly. It's how the Helix series of products was created,... a result of Idea Scale.

Varian 300 vs Workbench
psarkissian replied to Skipernicus's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
The picture shows Workbench HD, it's not compatible with Variax 300, it only works with the original Workbench. Log a Support ticket. -
" Lol...that's everything I just said, essentially verbatim...bug fixes and support for new OS...4 1/2 years worth. We're going in circles here, and I have no intention of getting into a philosophical debate over the definition of "significant". "--- Just wondering, wanted to be sure we were on the same page. Keep up the good work.
-
Significant,... not sure. But last year's v2.22 added Shuriken and some added support to already existing firmware (which would include minor bug fixes). And seldom, do I ever see a list of each and every minor bug fix. And in some cases, it's an update to be compatible with recent computer OS'.
-
Platform may be 8-years old, but the last general firmware update was 2017, and a Shuriken update in 2018. And there's Workbench HD for those who want to tweak and adjust further.
-
Don't know what's in the works. Don't listen to rumors or assumptions. If there's something, there will be "official" notice, or something will show up in the Line 6 Monkey,... if and when the time comes. Even I won't know until then. And I'm the guy that services JTV, Standard and Shurikens.

Intonation on JTV69
psarkissian replied to specracer986's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
If it comes up flat, it could be a couple of things with the rest of the set-up. It's a balance of tensions. Once that's done, intonation can get dialed in closer. I'm used to it because I've done hundreds of these 69's. Never got into the tremolo thing, yet I own three and prefer the floating two-post. The only tremolo bridges I own. -
Same piezos but in different saddles, same Model patches.
-
Information about this in the Knowledge Base here on doing updates. It might pop at the end of an update, seen it occur a couple of times, make sure the volume is at zero when doing an update.

Is there a Wah module in the effects stream on the display?

1) Mag pot controls are audio taper. 89F is a two pick-up HH configuration, 69 is a three pick-up HSS. Difference in pick-ups, difference in perceived tone and amplitude. 2) James Tyler was going for a Duncan like spec. 3) Wiring diagrams are on this Forum's Knowledge Base. Third party pick-ups should have a DC/bulk resistance range of 6k-Ohms to 8k-Ohms, so as to be impedance matched to the rest of the circuitry downstream. Impedance matching is necessary in guitars like this with active electronics. 4) Check the Helix manual, in the edit page of the Helix should be a Variax patch "Force/Don't Force" kind of setting. It tells the Helix whether or not to "force" the Variax to use the Helix default Variax patch setting. As far as Firmware goes, I'd have to look at the serial number in your account to get a better idea about the Firmware. Or you could check for certain using Line 6 Monkey. Info on updating Firmware can be found on this Forum's Knowledge Base. 5) More info on the subject of klang tone or plink tone is also found on this Forum's Knowledge Base. 6) String amplitude on the modeling can be done by adjusting string amplitude levels in Workbench HD .

New pickups on my JTV-69S
psarkissian replied to amsdenj's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Impedance mis-match is not good, but I haven't had a catastrophic fail yet either. Just won't sound right. I don't anticipate any problems beyond that. Might not sound the way you like it. 12k-Ohm was too dark for Richie, 14k-Ohm is an even darker tone. Impedance mis-match,... impedance is a function of frequency. -

Variax 700 model selector switch

In the UK,... also check with E&M Electronics in Milton Keynes or Mark Wright at Mark Wright Music in Northampton. Mark used to be my opposite number at Line 6 UK in Rugby. -
Spider IV dead, connected input to phones?
psarkissian replied to rabbelito's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
Correct, it's not fixable. Feeding an output back into the input like that will overload the input circuit. If the input circuit goes, chances are an input circuit trace is burn from a failed component and the input amp circuit is burned too. Cost of repair would exceed the cost of a replacement amp. -
New pickups on my JTV-69S
psarkissian replied to amsdenj's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
You'll get a darker tone (EQ) with bulk resistance like that. In a passive electronic guitar, it would be about finding the right pot and capacitor to wire in. Can't do that here, it's an active circuit with fixed values. Richie Castellano of Blue Oyster Cult tried this earlier this year, live on Facebook, with a 12k-Ohm DiMarzio. In real-time I double checked and told him it would too dark of a tone for his liking,... it was too dark of a tone for his liking. He swapped it out for an 8k-Ohm DiMarzio a day or two later. -
Mic align to speakers,... mic align with or behind the position of the speakers. If the mic is in front of the speaker, it self oscillates, hence the term feedback. Also make use of EQ, since certain frequencies feedback more easily than others.

Firmware 2.23 jtv
psarkissian replied to dizzyspiral's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Usually more than that there. Hmmm,... definitely at the bottom of the Monkey window, as I do Firmware checks in Monkey every now and then. -
Firmware 2.23 jtv

Zippo,... less sophisticated, simple, does only one thing,... lights up a flame. Very good.
