  1. Were the batteries in the 700 when you plugged with the VDI? It was a VDI and not a generic CAT5 was it?
  2. Let me guess,.... 700 Electric? You leave the batteries in while using the XPS power wedge?
  3. The body is,... somewhat. Those of us players all put our two sense into it. Started with a Pacifica and then we went from there. Nip & tuck, here-and-there.
  4. IMHO, you're not right or wrong,... looks,... it's ok. A matter of taste, and you know what you like. There are people out there still trying to figure it out. It's part of the process of finding what they're looking for. Standard, still warming up to it. The Standard is light weight and nice gigging with as a result. Feels good. So far, very little goes wrong with it. Been mostly small, minor, insignificant little things. Not bad, all-in-all. I'm a bit more for the classic designs of a Strat or Les Paul,... I own a pair of 69's and a pair of 59's, and an old 300 Electric.
  5. Charlie and ozbadman are right about active pick-ups. The only problem with passive pick-ups is making sure the impedance is close to what's already in there, or you'll have amplitude variations that you might not be able to control easily. And be sure the pick-up distance from the strings is set so that you don't get warbling while in Model mode. And like Stevekc says,... he's one of about four or five individuals in the Americas I trust to do a mod on a JTV, without messing it up. Authorized service centers also know what they're doing. But since we officially don't sanction mods, it wouldn't be warranty work.
  6. Tormal,... It has to do with the switch lay out, that is not as simple as it may appear. I can't get any deeper about it beyond that. It has nothing to do with policy, it has to do the way it was designed. It can't be turned into a JTV any more than a JTV of one body style can be turned into another, nor can the early Variax Models be transferred and used in a JTV (because the data blocks between them are laid out differently). The JTV Models are the same among them, the Alt Tune in the 89/89F are different from the others. If you try to use and 89 Alt Tune configuration in a 69, the Alt Tune rolls backwards from what is indicated on the knob. If you use a 59 configuration in a 69, only three of the toggle positions will function on the 69's 5-Way toggle switch,... and that whole second layer of those 59 patches aren't accessible. Can't mismatch between boards and body types,... won't work. The Model Gallery might be the same for all the guitars, it the switching configuration that distinguishes each guitar from one another. Charlie,... I don't know about a step down,... more like, just being a bit different than JTV. Interesting though.
  7. I stand corrected,... can't roll back on a Standard. I would think that because the switch and knob lay out is different, that the corresponding firmware would be too. It's also why you can't program it to think it's a JTV, for the purpose of rolling back the firmware.
  8. ---Make sure the 500X patch edit for Variax presets is not in "Force" mode, where you are changing guitar Models from the 500X. ---Make sure the screws holding in the 5-Way switch and the Alt Tune knob are screwed in torqued and tight (not too tight). ---Check to see if the Volume and Tone controls are loose. If they are, then carefully bring up the knobs and gently torque down the nuts holding in the control potentiometers, then put the knobs back on. ---If all that doesn't do it, then there is something deeper causing intermittent functioning, then it need to be taken to a factory authorized service technician.
  9. Hang in there. I'm in touch with the guy who responded to your ticket. He was probably unaware of our previous contact on FB, so he wasn't aware I have the parts.
  10. If you are a gigging musician, it's good to replace the tubes every 12-18 months. If you are a weekend warrior garage band, replaced the tubes every 20-24 months. Both pre-amp and power tubes. Replace them with the factory type Sovtek 5881WXT, and the 12AX7B generic China tubes. The digital and analog sections are matched up in a way that using something other than that can cause problems. I see too many come back because someone put in something other than the factory specified tubes, and ends up blowing it. And made worse because they did not use the correct bias for those other version tubes. These amps are not as forgiving of alterations or mods, as the tube amps in the 1960's and 70's were.
  11. Then you've been extremely lucky up to this point. Shouldn't use tetrodes in a pentode circuit. It's not designed for it. It shouldn't get warm enough to require a fan like that. Not a good sign.
  12. Yeah, I care. But I also don't want to see gear come across my bench if it doesn't have to. Luck.
  13. No, I don't hate you, I just worry about you guys. Been doing this four decades, so I know all the things that can go wrong. Be careful, the JJ curves don't always match well with the EH's. I love the Hard JJ's for certain application, but not for this. If it blows, it may take down the processor board as well. I hope the tech did the bias for the JJ's and not the normal bias used for the EH's.
  14. Interesting video. Remind me again the brand and gauge set of the strings. Too bad I don't the guitar in front of me to evaluate. Nine times out of ten, it turns out to be a set-up or other adjustment. It's the one out of ten,... hmmm. If it were L-waves, I would think it would occur on more than one string. If it were the firmware, my JTV's would being doing it too, as would be with everyone else's. Ring like that, what I hear when something hardware is loose, inducing a secondary vibration from somewhere. Wish it was here on my bench. Many variables to go thru and eliminate.
  15. Oh, and regarding string gauges, some use a set with 11's. They say it works good for the rapid fire riffs, like in the original posts,... more beefy tone to it was the impression I got. Check out some of Sean Halley's videos, he uses a set with 11's on some or all of his JTV's.
  16. And opinions and as numerous as turds and snowflakes. But seriously cruisnson2, you've come up with some good posts in the past,.... what would you suggest as a solution? And I'm not being sarcastic or rhetorical. You and stevekc have come up with good stuff before.
  17. I own four,... ditto stevekc. "EQing the plink away" defeats the purpose of the guitar sounding like the guitar's it's simulating"--- So does re-writing the firmware, it would no longer be the model of the guitar being modeled. EQ'ing insulting??? EQ'ing is how a sound is sculpted and adjusted to be where you want it to be. That's how all our favourite guitar slingers do it.
  18. If Full compass isn't able to take care of you in the UK, then seek out Mark Wright at Mark Wright Music in Northampton. Check with him. He may be able to get the part and put it in for you. He was a tech at Line 6 in Rugby, when we had a location there. He's a mate that does good work and knows the guitar products well. I'm checking on status of two of our other mates.
  19. Also the JTV piezos are available too,... http://www.fullcompass.com/prod/234088-Line-6-11-00-0010 and in stock as well.
  20. Piezo for the older Variax series electrics,.... http://www.fullcompass.com/prod/114557-Line-6-11-11-0001 Shows that it's in stock now.
  21. 6CA7 is fine for a Pearlman Tube mic, but not in a Bogner tube amp section of a Line 6 DT50. And radatats is right, don't go mixing pentodes with tetrodes,... the circuit isn't designed for that.
