  1. If you are a gigging musician, it's good to replace the tubes every 12-18 months. If you are a weekend warrior garage band, replaced the tubes every 20-24 months. Both pre-amp and power tubes. Replace them with the factory type Sovtek 5881WXT, and the 12AX7B generic China tubes. The digital and analog sections are matched up in a way that using something other than that can cause problems. I see too many come back because someone put in something other than the factory specified tubes, and ends up blowing it. And made worse because they did not use the correct bias for those other version tubes. These amps are not as forgiving of alterations or mods, as the tube amps in the 1960's and 70's were.
  2. Then you've been extremely lucky up to this point. Shouldn't use tetrodes in a pentode circuit. It's not designed for it. It shouldn't get warm enough to require a fan like that. Not a good sign.
  3. Yeah, I care. But I also don't want to see gear come across my bench if it doesn't have to. Luck.
  4. No, I don't hate you, I just worry about you guys. Been doing this four decades, so I know all the things that can go wrong. Be careful, the JJ curves don't always match well with the EH's. I love the Hard JJ's for certain application, but not for this. If it blows, it may take down the processor board as well. I hope the tech did the bias for the JJ's and not the normal bias used for the EH's.
  5. Interesting video. Remind me again the brand and gauge set of the strings. Too bad I don't the guitar in front of me to evaluate. Nine times out of ten, it turns out to be a set-up or other adjustment. It's the one out of ten,... hmmm. If it were L-waves, I would think it would occur on more than one string. If it were the firmware, my JTV's would being doing it too, as would be with everyone else's. Ring like that, what I hear when something hardware is loose, inducing a secondary vibration from somewhere. Wish it was here on my bench. Many variables to go thru and eliminate.
  6. Oh, and regarding string gauges, some use a set with 11's. They say it works good for the rapid fire riffs, like in the original posts,... more beefy tone to it was the impression I got. Check out some of Sean Halley's videos, he uses a set with 11's on some or all of his JTV's.
  7. And opinions and as numerous as turds and snowflakes. But seriously cruisnson2, you've come up with some good posts in the past,.... what would you suggest as a solution? And I'm not being sarcastic or rhetorical. You and stevekc have come up with good stuff before.
  8. I own four,... ditto stevekc. "EQing the plink away" defeats the purpose of the guitar sounding like the guitar's it's simulating"--- So does re-writing the firmware, it would no longer be the model of the guitar being modeled. EQ'ing insulting??? EQ'ing is how a sound is sculpted and adjusted to be where you want it to be. That's how all our favourite guitar slingers do it.
  9. If Full compass isn't able to take care of you in the UK, then seek out Mark Wright at Mark Wright Music in Northampton. Check with him. He may be able to get the part and put it in for you. He was a tech at Line 6 in Rugby, when we had a location there. He's a mate that does good work and knows the guitar products well. I'm checking on status of two of our other mates.
  10. Also the JTV piezos are available too,... http://www.fullcompass.com/prod/234088-Line-6-11-00-0010 and in stock as well.
  11. Piezo for the older Variax series electrics,.... http://www.fullcompass.com/prod/114557-Line-6-11-11-0001 Shows that it's in stock now.
  12. 6CA7 is fine for a Pearlman Tube mic, but not in a Bogner tube amp section of a Line 6 DT50. And radatats is right, don't go mixing pentodes with tetrodes,... the circuit isn't designed for that.
  13. These are not the analog tube amps from the 1960's and 70's, where you can swap between tube types. This is a hybrid amp with digital and analog sections. "YOU CAN USE THE 6CA7 TUBES IN A DT50 I AM USING 2 MESA 12AX7 TUBES AND 2 JJ 6CA7 TUBES AND IS RUNNING FINE"--- I might be now, but I see way too many DT50's come across my bench just for that reason. Incorrect tubes and incorrect bias levels, I see this way too much. It will damage something eventually, running it like that. Do not use Mesa, JJ, Ruby Tubes or Groove Tubes in this amp. The characteristic curves between these tubes may be close, but not close enough. These are Bogner hot rods, don't hot rod the hot rod or something will fail. The characteristic curves are not close enough, and using the specified bias on these other tubes would be the wrong bias. I see way too many DT50's come across my bench just for that reason. I'm trying to keep that from occurring. Please don't do that. For those who say that EH's are just Sovteks with EH painted on it,... EH owns the Sovtek factory. The EH labeled tubes go through extra scrutiny. Use the specified Electro-Harmonix 12AX7's and EL34's. For those who ask soft, medium or hard,... ... I'm told by an EH person that we get the mediums.
  14. There is a part on the Variax processor board that can get damaged. We have been telling people for years. So please don't do that.
  15. Monkey 1.71, Workbench 1.75, good. The 1/4" battery fake out is for the JTV and The Standard, only. DO NOT plug in VDI and 1/4" simultaneously, it will stress a couple of parts on the power regulating circuits.
  16. Yes, what Silverhead said. Also, click on "Change Device" on Monkey, see if it re-initializes the GUI and the 300. Had to do that to my 300 Electric after an update, once upon a time. Speaking of Monkey,... make sure you have the latest version. As a last resort,... contact Line 6 Support through your account and log a support ticket. Two products that old may require some servicing from a Line 6 authorized tech who knows the product.
  17. Pick-up would have affect more on strings. It can create a string warbling, a modulation in frequency or FM (like in the earlier L-wave picture), And in Model mode, the piezo picks up on that signal. It sounds annoying, and when using Alt Tune it's even worse. I come across that every now and then, it sounds awful. Yeah, the magnets aren't that strong, the effect can be subtle (but sometimes not). The rate of change between the string frequency verses rate of change of the string crossing the mag field gives a changing beat frequency. It might not be related to Miroslav's problem, but it's something to be aware of when using mags and piezos together.
  18. "I've tried the factory reset as described in the manual, Knife switch in middle position plug 1/4 cable in while holding guitar model button down. No luck. (Lights do not flash as described in procedure)"--- That way of doing a factory reset is out of date. An update is in progress. After the Flash crossed over to v2.00, the only way to factory reset is to re-Flash it. A Line 6 authorized tech in your area will need to get inside to deal with the Alt Tune problem. You should contact Line 6 through the ticketing system through your Line 6 account, and get any needed return authorizations.
  19. The L-wave suggests a change of wavelength, which would be a change of frequency, or frequency modulation (FM). Whatever problem there is would be more transverse wave related. The string would have to do some serious gymnastics to do L-waves. Magnetic pull from pick-ups induce the field in such a way, as to create warbling (an FM effect), which is result of an out-of-adjusted pick up height. -Have you tried using equalisation on your floor effects station or amplifier, to filter out the undesired frequency (between 1.6-1.7 kHz)? -Have you used Workbench HD to adjust the parameters (body, pick-ups, string gauges, string volume, etc) and create the Model patch to where like it? It's a lot easier than a firmware re-write, since they are not going to re-write the firmware to your specifications, just for you. They just don't do that sort of customization. That's what Workbench HD is for. Here's a tool and an opportunity to make use of the tool to tweak to the way you like it. Make use of it, that's what it's there for. For those who don't always like to have just presets. It's about possibilities with the tools, finding your voice and sculpting your sound.
  20. Claptrap? Then why doesn't everyone with a JTV have this problem? There is something else here.
