  1. IMO.... get the Stomp, but keep the HD500x. Best of both worlds. You can utilize the HD500 for effects, I/O and as a midi controller while integrating the amp modelling and additional effects from the Stomp. If you go strictly to the stomp you may find yourself needing to add a footswitch or two and an expression pedal but the HD500 (and a little midi setup) will take care of all that. It would be a very powerful combination.
  2. Not to pile on... but the Helix is not the only multi effects unit to suffer from this audio gap when changing presets. They all do it to varying degrees. It's one of the reasons the Helix has "snapshots" while others have "scenes". Embrace the change... I can't speak for everyone but once I got used to using snapshots I found it much more flexible. They take a little more time to setup (initially) but I find them much faster and easier to maintain. Presets: Loads a pedal board layout and amp(s) choice... Snapshots: These are your tones created within that layout. Stomps: Manual on/off control of a select number of effects within that layout.
  3. Those that mix Coke with their Jack are forever banished from the green room :)
  4. Even though I am a very happy LT user... the riggers of a "one man show" will require the additional I/O options of the floor, so your choice makes perfect sense.
  5. Find a wireless that has the range and features you need/want, then do some research on that unit. Be careful if you are using anything with active pickups (including acoustic pre-amps)... as stated above a few times, some wireless systems do not play well with those.
  6. That seems right to me... but since I don't use an HX Effects anymore I can't verify it. The merge block certainly looks right to me. What exactly isn't working right? Are the paths/outputs bleeding into each other? Is it the actual signal or just some effects? If it's just some effects, make sure you are running MONO effects as I believe stereo effects may ignore the pan rules at the merge block since their intent is to use both outputs.
  7. You may want to try a different amp than the jazz chorus. I seem to recall a thread with the same (or similar) problem and the Jazz Chorus seemed to be the worst amp culprit of the batch. (edit to add: I just found the thread referencing the JC120. I know the input pad is not an option for you on the stomp, but you might want to take a look at this thread... https://line6.com/support/topic/41618-guitar-input-pad-does-you-or-doesnt-you/) Just for the sake of being complete I need to ask the obvious. Are you keeping the DRIVE turned down, and CHANNEL VOLUME up on the amp model? It does sound like clipping. Does it still happen if you don't load any amps or effects? It is never my intention to come across as such, I apologize if it did this time.Without proper emoticons on this forum it is difficult to convey intent... the smiley was meant to indicate "friendly banter".
  8. Warning... If you own a first gen Variax (500, 300, 600, 700) then there are a few "gotcha's" to watch out for. Helix to Variax communication is ONE WAY. You cannot chnage the model on the Variax and expect the Helix to store/recall that change accurately. You must set the model on the HELIX. If you want to change models per snapshot (as opposed to pre preset), you may want to set snapshots to "discard". Because of the problem described in #1, leaving it set to "recall" could cause unwanted confusion is you ever change models on the guitar during usage. Setting snapshots to discard always reloads the correct model every time you choose the snapshot. The Helix can only load the factory guitars, and the ones you store in Custom 1 and Custom 2. If you save any modified guitars over their original locations (eg: modify the tele bridge and save it over the original tele bridge) the Helix will not load your modified version, it will only load the original factory version. (the modified version will still be available from the guitar itself) Alternate tunings from the Helix do not work with a 1st gen variax. You must store your alternate tunings in one of the custom locations and recall those guitars when needed. These problems will not apply to a JTV, Standard or Shuriken Variax.
  9. The amps can't be in "parallel" ... they should be in series, the way a real amp would be setup. IMO... just create your patches with an amp block already in place..... just turn the amp block off when you save it. If your DSL goes down, you just need to activate the amp block and your are already good to go.
  10. +1 That is a very important point to make! Further to that... if the tones being created are intended for live use then I would also recommend that you create the tones at a similar volume. All of my tones are setup around 85db - 90db which is really loud in my home studio, but they translate extremely well to the FOH and Monitor systems.
  11. I saw LRB about 10 - 15 years ago.... obviously long before the Helix entered their lives. There sound was impeccable... just like listening to the recordings. That cannot be done with amps blasting off the stage.... stage volume discipline is a must. They had several Marshalls on the stage at that show, but obviously they kept them to a dull roar :) It doesn't surprise me that they are using Helix now... it's a logical transition and I don't doubt that it sounded great!

    XLR Port

I just double checked my LT and sure enough... it only has the metal on the right output... seeing that, your statement is exactly what came to mind. I don't think that is a "clip" at all.... especially since XLR cables lock into my Left/Mono output without it.
  13. That was very similar to my LT. I engaged the input pad and that tamed it for me. Here are a few things you could try.... Does the Stomp have an input pad? If so, try engaging that. Is this just the AMP or are there other effects in the chain. With many effects make sure you keep each effect close to unity to avoid clipping anything down chain. Pick an amp (like the one in the sample you provided) and try increasing the BIAS a little... and/or the Bias Excursion. I know you said you tried many cabs/ir's.... but with the stock cabs, try swapping the mic choice for the 121 and pull it back about 6". It warms up the top end of any amp/cab quite a bit. Any electrical interference I hear from external devices is constant, it doesn't come and go with my playing dynamics :)
  14. Sorry to hear this.... Every distributor will have it's own policies, and each country will have it's own laws as well. Sometimes I think Line 6 has their hands tied... not much they can do, even if it is their product. Here in Canada Line 6 is distributed by Yorkville which is also the owner of our largest music store chain "Long and McQuade". When you need something fixed here it is relatively easy and fast... especially with full service stores from coast to coast.
  15. I will admit, I am looking forward to this update because of a few features that get very little fanfare. But this is a very big update due to the "HX Unity" changes, and I do suspect the masses will unveil a few bugs that beta tests will not... you are right, it is inevitable. I've got a really busy summer so when it does come out I'll be one of those likely to wait for v2.81.
  16. Devil's advocate here :) Floor owners love their scribble strips, but we LT users get to enjoy "Performance View" which the floor does not have. Many believe the lack of scribble strips on the LT means you have to memorize everything because you can't label it. NOT TRUE! Performance View provides everything the scribble strips do, they just don't do it directly above the foot switches. I've owned an HX Effects (scribble strips) and an LT (performance view). My preference is "Performance View".... especially in the sun, however others may disagree with me on that one. All I am saying is that "for me", scribble strips would not be a deciding factor one way or the other. I would focus more on the other items (especially I/O needs) to make the choice.
  17. I use an LT, and most certainly it can do what it's big brother does. Snapshots control parameters. Take the time to learn how to do it, and enjoy it to the fullest. Presets: Loads an amp and effect order of your choice. Snapshots: Loads different parameters and on/off states of the amp(s) and effects loaded in the preset. It's like "presets" within each "preset". Since you already know how to toggle effects on/off with snaps you only need to learn how to get the parameters working. The easiest way is to do it on the device (not in edit) by PUSHING while you turn a parameter knob. Brackets will appear around the number and when it does, that number can now be changed from snapshot to snapshot. In HX Edit you can "shift > left mouse click" (on the parameter) to assign that parameter to snapshots.

    XLR Port

Is the complaint that a metal clip appears to be missing on "left/mono" output XLR.... or is the complaint that your XLR cable will not lock into that output? For the latter, please try at least one more XLR cable. I never have a problem locking the majority of XLR's into my Helix, but I do have one cable that WILL NOT lock in, despite the fact that it works on everything else. For the record... I have other cables that won't lock into some mic's as well :)
  19. When a master volume is disabled it will effectively be "FULL".... having access to it would not turn up the amp any further. The volume control on the HX becomes your master volume. If the HX is not producing enough volume check the output global settings and change it from "instrument level" to "line level". That should ensure you have enough headroom with the volume control on the HX.
  20. They won't sound the same.... IMO... you would be better off studying how those tones are created to begin with, then building a Helix patch from that. IE: Build a patch based on the original chain, not based on a copy of it.
  21. That's the cream of the first generation Variax guitars. It looks like it was kept in very good condition as well!
  22. It is certainly possible with the HX Effects. The problem you are likely having is that the SPLIT (required to properly route the left/right inputs) and MERGE (required to route path a/b to the outputs) don't appear unless you have two discreet paths. The 2nd path is NOT created until you move at least one block to Path B. On the HX I got around this setting up my primary instrument (electric) on path B. That way I could fill all 9 blocks (leaving path A blank) and still have the two discreet paths. Yes... I had to move all the blocks down to that path (which is a pain) but it solved my problems. Once you have both paths setup accordingly you can send Left Input to path A and Right Input to path B at the split block. At the Merge block pan Path A to left output and Path B to right output.
  23. That certainly gives you the most control in regards to levels and panning... but the other option that saves resources is to find an IR that already blends those mic's the way you like.
  24. The super ego is a beefed up "freeze" with an effects loop. There are a few videos on you tube for creating "freeze" effects with the Helix... have you checked those out to see if you can get close enough?
