There is no need to go to TGP to see the feature list.... it's posted as a "sticky" thread at the top of these forums.

Do you know if that works with the Helix, or would you still be in trial and error mode? There are many ways that an expression pedal can be wired.... everything is NOT compatible with everything. Out of curiosity... what version of firmware is your Helix running? Supposedly, V2.71 made large improvements to expression/VP compatibility.

It's a turn key solution for HX owners. The products you buy through marketplace work with the HX series you don't have to weed through a potential endless structure to find the ones that do work with the Helix. The protected system serves two purposes.... It keeps someone from buying from L6 then distributing it for free around the net... and in turn that protects L6's agreements with it's vendors on marketplace. For you and I, buying the original formats from the original vendor might be fine, but for some... having a simplified "turn key" solution makes perfect sense.

Did you try the cable in both the input and the output of the VP JR? The in/out will behave differently so try them both. The Helix would prefer a standard cable. If you do try a TRS it must be an "insert cable" (two mono ends at the VP Jr side), not just a cable with two TRS ends on it. When using an "insert cable" the same applies to the "in/out" on the VP Jr that I mentioned above... you would need to try both orientations. There are two VP Jr's. The passive VP JR is a 250k pot... The active VP JR uses a 25k pot. L6 loves to see a 10K pot so I suspect you might be better results with the active pedal. That said... I have seen people state that they use the passive VP Jr and it works fine.

.hir is a format L6 uses for it's IR's in Marketplace... .hir is a protected format that limits it's use to the HX series. I don't think there is a way of convert the files without physically going through the process of making a new IR from the .hir

There are a couple of features in that new upgrade I am really looking forward to... so I check regularly, but not daily. In the meantime, I have nothing to complain about :)

I'm not sure if you understood.... but to clarify, most of the amps in the HD model packs ARE Helix models. During Helix development they took the time to make a version that works on the HD series. You have three options... Buy a Helix to get those models. A stomp is about the same amount of money as an HD500x with an add on pack. Buy the models that work on the HD for $50 (44€) a pack.... or $100 (88€) for all three packs. Wait for a 30% off sale... and get them for $35 a pack, or $70 for all three packs. #3 appears to be what you are wanting and L6 has a habit of doing this at least once a year... patience is a virtue.

I'm not sure how this went form a broken USB cap to a blown circuit board :) There is a black molded cap that protects those pins. If a cable gets slammed, or yanked to the side - that cap can easily break off. No USB connection is immune to this... it's just that USB connections are not often connected to STOMP boxes that we step on so we rarely see it break in other types of devices. That part needs to be replaced... and should be done at an authorized service center... especially if it is still under warranty. This won't be covered under warranty, but you don't want to void what is left by opening it yourself.

Your English is fine... actually, I wouldn't have noticed if you didn't say anything. Welcome to the forum. Keep in mind that many (not all) of the models in the model packs were re-produced from the Helix models they were creating at the time. IMO... $50 is not unreasonable for a pack, $100 for all packs is not unreasonable, and L6 does run a sale on occasion... it just isn't ongoing.

Yes you are correct.... I just revisited that myself and see that it is possible. It makes me wonder why I chose to insert a 3rd delay for my syncopated delays though? I must have been too lazy to setup the parameters that day - LOL!

No, not the Mission EP-1. You would need the Mission EP-1L6 (made specifically for Line 6 products) https://www.gak.co.uk/en/mission-ep1-l6-expression-pedal/922904 YMMV, but I use an M-Audio EXP.... it is dirt cheap and works great. https://www.gak.co.uk/en/m-audio-ex-p-expression-pedal/4072 There is a setting on the back of the unit that must be set to "M-Audio" not to "other". The MIN volume setting on the side must be all the way down. Some people report that they need to "invert" the polarity in the HX software, but I've never had to do that.

Yes - this is a common work around for the problem. I prefer to keep my tempo set to GLOBAL so I could make it fit my work flow, but it certainly is a good solution for those that can.
-
Below is the wiring Line 6 Devices like to see... others may work, but this always works. (Note: this is TS... not TRS) Most people don't realize this, but there are many different ways to wire expression pedals... some are proprietary, some are not. It's not just Mission... I have a Yamaha and a DOD that won't work with my Line 6 gear. There will be many others as well.... Mission didn't make a Line 6 model for the heck of it... they made it because their standard model is not wired to work with Line 6 devices :)

Yes, the 700 and 300 would respond/react the same way to the Helix. I have a 1st generation Variax and it takes a little while to sort out the behaviors, but it is still extremely functional. My favorite feature is the ability to change models with snapshots... not just with presets. One thing to note... you cannot use the Helix to communicate with Workbench with a 1st gen Variax. You need the Variax interface or an older POD (HD500, X3 live, XT Live, etc...) to do that.
-
I don't disagree with this at all... I often enjoy playing devils advocate myself :)
-
Are you going into STOMP mode or SNAPSHOT mode? If you went into STOMP mode, just hit the mode switch. If you went into SNAPSHOT mode each button will be labeled with the word snapshot. Simply choose snapshot 1 and by default it will immediately return to presets unless you changed that behavior in the global settings. PRESETS should also be available if you simply click either the UP or DOWN BANK button.

Without any inside knowledge, I tend to feel the same as @mitchellisdumb in regards to what is coming. They are unifying the HX products, not isolating them... you don't do that if you plan on making it obsolete with a new product line. Any new hardware (down the road) might have more power, maybe a new feature or two... but the core software/system will likely remain and the older products will still enjoy the software upgrades that follow.

IMO... A backup situation is not about getting the exact same tones or quality of tones, it's about surviving a gig relatively unscathed :) At the cost of a Stomp... buying one for strictly backup purposes would be a waste of money (for this relatively poor musician) UNLESS I had another practical use for the item. If I was on a tour or even a gig where second best isn't good enough - I would simply carry a second Helix and do away with any compromise, whether it's a rental or purchased. I don't have this need at all... most of my patches in my HD never have an EQ in them. I'll admit... it's not as nice as the Helix, but (for me) it's good enough to survive a gig or two, especially considering I used to gig with one all the time before buying the Helix :)

It does seem like a very odd limitation of the HX devices. I'm sure there is a reason you can't change that from a snapshot, but it would sure be great if you could. IIRC.... not only can't you change from MS to Subdivision, you can't even change from one Subdivision to another. I have an LT with 3 delay blocks. One for slap (fixed ms), one for tap tempo set to 1/8 or 1/4 (I don't remember) and yet another to manage my dotted 8th syncopated delays. Such a waste... because I could have done all of that with one delay if snapshots could control the subdivision settings.

I upgraded to a Helix from an HD500.... so I simply kept my HD500 as a backup unit. Like you, I always have a spare of everything so I understand where you are coming from. IMO... look for a cheap used "multi fx / amp sim" and program a few basic sounds into it to get you through a gig, I don't know how the used market is in your area, but for me I can buy anything with an amp sim in it (other than a flagship product) for dirt cheap. EG: A Zoom G series or Boss ME50/70 can be had for $100 give or take a little. A Line 6 XT/X3 Live can be found for $100 - $150, and an HD500 is $200 - $250, etc... etc... Even a brand new Zoom G1on is under $100, fits easily in any gig bag, and can produce sounds good enough to get you through a gig.

I just want to confirm something that is assumed, but not stated in the quoted sentence. You turned off the IR, but can you confirm the amp you used is the 2204 without the cabinet/mic? If you have to turn off all the high end that sounds like a MIC model might still be in play. Failing that... As "zolko60" mentions above, I'd suggest trying the preamp version of the 2204 rather than the full version since you are running it into a poweramp and cabinet.

It's an odd limitation, but you cannot change from fixed value (ms) to subdivision value (1/4, 1/8, etc...) with a snapshot. There are features requests on ideascale for this if you want to vote it up... https://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Delay-Time-Per-Snapshot-to-include-subdivisions-AND-ms-option/896687-23508 Are you saying that you found a way to do change the fixed time to subdivision time in a snapshot? If so, please share.

If budget allows.... go for a Helix Floor or LT and call it a day! Just my opinion here... but if your XT Live still works fine and all you can afford is an HD500x..... spend the little extra money on an HX Stomp and run it in the loop if the XT Live. Use the Stomp for all the amp models and a few extra effects.... and keep the XT for the stuff you like (delays, modulation, etc...). Connect a midi cable between the two and the patch changes on the XT will change the patch on the Stomp.... just that all fall naturally (don't try to change how it works) and line the patches up to work with each other. There is nothing wrong with the HD500x.... as PianoGuyy says above, if you can't get a tone that works with that the problem is not the device. BUT - the HX devices have IR capability and nicer overdrives/distortions/fuzz, amps/cab than the HD500 so it adds the "state of the art" things you don't like about the XTL to the things you do like about the XTL.

HX Edit will save a patch in a json format (well, I'm pretty sure it's json)... which reads very similar to XML, If you need XML there are "json to XML" converters... but I'm sure you know that already :)

If you get it opened up and find you don't have a quick FIX for the switch.... AND if you don't use the looper. Just swap the two switches. On my unit the Looper switch is my spare switch... it is never touched so it is essentially new. If one ever dies, I'll just swap it out - LOL These are just actuators that push the real switch under it.... there shouldn't be any soldering required to swap switches.
