totally my experience, too.

I echo the sentiment that you can ignore IR for now. Just learn the unit. I tried a few IR but ended up having a handful of built-in cabs that I like better than anything else I’ve tried. My faves are the Matchless (I use both in a Dual cab with ribbon mikes... mmm. Mmm) and the Z 2 x 12 and the Fender 4 x 10. YMMV, of course.

No reason to believe this is so. It really almost never is. But I don't know that I'd chance it. You should sell that and get Control for Helix Rack, tho. It's WAY more than a MIDI controller.
-
Never. No. If you have a sound guy, let him do his job. If you don't, make your sound great in the house for the people who came to hear your music. If it's not as great in your IEMs, who cares...

Which browser? Different browsers are STILL creating different problems at different times. Helix should run just peachy on El Cap.
-
Even if you could, I wouldn't. too many sync/clock/sample rate issues. Figure out your tempo, set it, and go. If you change tempos a lot in a song, you need to do some serious advance planning on that.
-
You don't need a new mic, you need to learn technique most likely. Need to learn exactly when to back off the mic when getting really loud and how to get in close when you aren't.
-
Get your tones to sound great, and then trust the sound guy. And yes, you will sound different at the gig. It's life. It' not FM, it's just different rooms sound different.

Perhaps he's referring to the widespread view that the doubler is not great in mono. I concur. It is only great in mono in one particular configuration as I recall... I only use it in stereo myself.

They have not announced anything in the new firmware update except the HX verbs. And some of us know that yes, in fact, they are awesome. I have a sneaking suspicion there might be more goodies, but no word as to what those are yet.
-
I've never used the BigSky, only heard demos, but yes, the new HX verbs are going to bring a smile to faces.
-
Which is amazing news and was a complete surprise to me... Yay...
-
I’m not dismissing it. On the contrary... But there are certain things that single pedals do really well, and BigSky is amazing. For some, nothing but that will do. For others, like myself, these new verbs are going to drastically expand the sonic palette of what I do and delight me. I think that everybody will be very pleased with 2.3x or whatever it’s going to be called. Truly.
-
And no, I'm not saying they won't be awesome. They will be, I'm sure of it. But let's remember that we are all different. There are guys who are still using drive pedals with this thing and I think that's nuts (for me)... so... we are all different... That said... can't wait for us all to get this in our hands!
-
This will very much depend on the user. He may use it completely different than you will...
-
You have to set the effect up to auto-engage before this works, though.

It sounds like you’re using a patch with nothing assigned to exp 1

that would work great

Make your own patches. Period. That is the key for every one of these, and Helix is probably the easiest to do that with ever.
-
Congratulations. You are, most obviously, NOT a Noob, as you have managed to max out both pathways. That's actually pretty awesome. The solutions is a second Helix.

So pleased with the Helix - but clean tone! And Wah question

You can assign any parameter in a block to a controller. Which can be an EXP, a Variax Knob, or a footswitch even. Hit Controller assign on the unit and explore the options. -

A couple other thoughts. I ALWAYS use a patch that allows me to go from clean to edge to dirt to big. Every time. Its simple. Right now my choice of amps for this are the Plexi Trem Bright channel, Cartographer, and Matchless Channel 1 mainly, but I have a bunch of amps I love that work for this. Keep the Amp Master volume at 5 (or thereabouts) or below on those of these which have a lot of power amp distortion. Turn Sag all the way down. (personal preference) Always have the Input Pad ON. Set up your tone so that at clean, it's clean when your guitar is on 7 or 8, edge of breakup above that. Learn to use that guitar volume. It will change your life. I also set my guitar tone at about 8, because I like it better there. YMMV. Set a foot switch to go from the base clean tone to a dirty amp tone. You may be able to do this with just the gain and the Channel Volume, but I often add midshipmen's and take away bass and presence. Set another foot switch to add a good gain pedal. I use Teemah or Minotaur mostly, occasionally Valve Driver. Now, you can add that to your clean tone, or to your dirty tone, and with the volume control on your guitar, if you do this right, you can get just about any sound in the known universe with one patch. That's how I do it. -

Cleanest amp in there is the JC 120. Some others get very clean, too, if you take the master to 5, channel to max, and gain very low. Like the Twin especially. Archon clean channel, Soldano Clean channel, and Matchless 1 are faves of mine. -
No, not the way it should behave. Easier to do this with a FX send, tho.
