Man, do I want a Vibroverb...
-
Probably far from flat and REALLY far from ideal for using with Helix anyway.
-
You want simple. That ain't. You have to navigate using two different "sound cards" on Windows. Ugh. Just get real headphones, you'll be happier.
-
Nope. There is no power provided to the USB connection on Helix and even if there was it's the wrong connection. You might be able to connect both to the same computer, but that's not the "simpler" way by far. I'd just get regular headphones for this purpose.
-
I TOTALLY forget about this. I went directly from Mavericks to El Crapitan (hated it almost as much as Yosemight) for only about 10 minutes then updated to Sierra and a LOT of USB issues were solved. Sierra is actually the first perfectly great MacOS in a while. I don't know about High Sierra because I can't upgrade yet.
-
A couple of the beta firmware updates I tested early on wouldn't work at all from my mid-2012 MacBook Pro (13") but every single regular release has run fine. I just believed the horror stories about running audio and the editor at the same time enough not to really try it.
-
So it's not just me.
-
No, but I'm pretty sure that connecting to Helix with the Editor open WHILE streaming audio has been problematic. I don't do it and can't test till tonight, but I will.
-
RIGHT. Phantom Power can NOT affect anything on Helix's 1/4" TS (there are no TRS connectors on Helix) connectors. But if your mixer is more than 20 feet away, you really should be sending a balanced XLR line.
-
I think you get lucky. I don't think it's intended to work that way reliably at this time.
-
from the other post (in case you don't see it...) I am, again, reasonably positive that this is the problem. I don't think that Helix Edit functions properly when Helix is passing audio from the computer and vice versa.

I went from HD 500 to Helix almost two years ago. Amp/Cab simulation is miles better on Helix, but very good on HD Delays are (now) better on Helix. Some stuff that has been added since it was released made it this way. Before that they were the same. Drives are miles better in Helix and much more responsive, although the Valve Driver in HD 500 was peachy to me. Verbs are about the same, but in the new year there are 3 new HX verbs coming, so who knows. All imho of course.

Chad Boston makes a big cover that is clear that you leave on while playing the gig that protects the Helix from spills and stuff.
-
Playing audio through the helix while editing is problematic and yes, it’s likely to be what is causing your computer to stop recognizing Helix. Evidently editing patches at the same time you pass audio through is a no no.
-
If you can make your Helix sound great with the built-in cabs as I can (hint: change the mic, learn how to use hi and lo cuts, and mess with mic distance and early reflection)... then no need to load up on IRs imho.

There are times when phantom power will be stuck on, turned on by mistake, or you simply don’t know. So... I ALWAYS use my 1/4†to a Whirlwind IMP2. It sounds just as good as the XLR to the board would. It eliminates any phantom power issues. It eliminates any impedance mismatch issues. It even mitigates or eliminates any level issues in my experience. So what I do is this. XLR out to my onstage monitor FRFR. I control the volume with the big volume on Helix. I use my 1/4†at full output to a DI to the board (or two identical DI when I go stereo). It’s a no-brained for me. If you are positive about the desk you plug into, then go ahead and use XLR, but in eliminating all those potential pitfalls, I give the sound guy more time to make me and the band sound great.

I think he said they would NOT be in the next update, but they were hoping to deliver new HX verbs for NAMM.

Here's a wacky idea for string sounds. The Mel9 from Electro harmonix. To replicate a bass guitar, using the pitch shift and doing single note lines through a bass amp model can work really well. If you're serious about ambiance, there's some wacky stuff in the article in my signature. I'd copy a youtube url, but suddenly that's not working on this computer.

What works great for me might not for you. Play in a loud band? going to a conventional guitar amp with guitar speaker might be best. Disable built-in Cabs for this. Play on a "silent stage" like a church, using the built-in cabs and going FRFR or IEM is almost always best. Just playing at home for personal enjoyment. Whatever you like best. recording? imho, ALWAYS best to use the built-in cabs and studio monitors.

Can you confirm this? I can't find any indication that if you own Logic X, you will have to buy it again if you upgrade to H.S. I'm legitimately concerned, actually.
-
Well, actually, they do a lot of early stages of testing in house, and these days, what they send us is really close to bug-free by the time we test it. They are, as I recall, going to be "unifying" the whole suite, including Native, so this one coming out is a big deal. But as to whether I know where that stage is in the process... I really couldn't say...
-
I don't think so, but I haven't tried real hard on my Mac.
-
I think the product looks awesome, and I'm pretty sure you can make USB 7 Guitar, Aux, Variax, Variax Mags, or Mic... and the same with USB 8. I am reasonably sure that they were NOT configurable when Helix first came out, but they are now.

Who uses their global EQ to compensate for different guitar pickups?
PeterHamm replied to Rocco_Crocco's topic in Helix
One thing I tried at one point was having a different snapshot, changing mostly amp EQ, for each guitar. But I found that I really wanted to use totally different amp models with different guitars anyway, so that didn't work long-term. But I'm a bad guy to ask now... 'cause I now only have one electric guitar and one hybrid. I think having multiple EQ blocks at the start of the chain is a GREAT solution. have a foot switch that switches between them, one for Start and one for LP or something like that.
