If it's important to you, enter a feature request on Ideascale. However, I can't see why this would be a useful feature. Can you explain?

No.

See my response just above your question. If you're only using one preset at a time, one press of the MODE switch toggles between Snapshots and Stomps. That's not "Tap dancing". Otherwise, setting "Global/Preferences/Preset Mode Switches" to Snaps/Stomps or Stomps/Snaps selects four different Stomps. I think the selection of stomps has to do with what's in Path 1 vs Path 2. Beyond that, no there's no way to select SPECIFICALLY which Stomps will be displayed. If it's important, there's a request for that ability on Ideascale that you can vote on.

In Globals/Preferences, if you have PRESET MODE SWITCHES set to 8 Presets or any combination of Presets and Snapshots or Stomps, when you switch to PRESET MODE the currently selected preset will appear on a white background. See Manual Page 10 "Preset Footswitch Mode" point 1.

Mine is set up like this: Global/Preferences Preset Mode Switches = 8 Snapshots Stomp Mode Switches = 10 Switches Snapshot Mode Switches = Auto Return Up/Down Switches = Banks In Preset Mode, I see all eight snapshots and the two far left buttons (FS1 and FS7) show Bank UP and Bank DOWN. By pressing either one I can see the two currently available banks of four presets. When I select one the display returns to eight Snapshots. When I press the MODE button I have access to all 10 available switches for that Snapshot. Press MODE again to return to Snapshots. Short of having twenty buttons, it doesn't get much simpler than that! You could, of course, have a second foot controller programmed to select Snapshots, then you would only need to use MODE to switch between Stomps and Presets. How much real estate have you got?

I think Phil is on the right track. The consistent every 5 seconds thing points to a system function taking control of the processor. Is your wireless disabled? Is your system optimized for use with a DAW? https://bandzoogle.com/blog/20-ways-to-optimize-your-windows-10-pc-for-music-production

I seem to have misunderstood the problem. I use a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20. In the Windows Sound app I've disabled Helix, and set the 18i20 as the DEFAULT device. Regardless of whether I'm rebooting, reconnecting, or simply switching devices, Helix only takes control if it's enabled as the DEFAULT device. Is your Audiobox set as the DEFAULT device?

Compared to my Core2 Duo (which does EVERYTHING, as long as I don't need it done yesterday), it's "Star Trek" ;-) as in NEXT NEXT NEXT (to the 8th) Generation!
-
I use it with Reaper all the time, with the default Reaper settings, on a Win10 i7 laptop with SSD, many plugins, no problems. Describe the rest of your system - computer, Memory, HD type, OS, optimizations, AI, Audio settings, special settings in Reaper, the whole deal, it's all relevant. Also, define "stutters". A mechanical HD, older processor, low memory and/or too low a buffer setting could all be contributing factors.

Well, you know what you want, and apparently have a legitimate need for the "Star Trek" solution. You're also willing to pay the price in time spent on the phone. Best of luck and, when you do get it resolved, please report back here. I'll honestly be interested in the solution. My Core2 Duo is getting a bit long in the tooth.......

With due respect, my first paragraph addressed "knowledge and experience", and you didn't address either. DID you run those tests? I see that you've decided to reinstall windows, Hopefully that will work. If not, run the stress tests. Even a new MB can have issues, and memory/CPU/GPU glitches are really hard to track down. Failing that, if a clean install with NO other drivers/devices present doesn't get it, then you're stuck in one of my favorite support loops - the driver support folks blame the MB, the MB support folks blame the driver, and your insistence that it's one or the other matters not a whit to either! My suggestion to try a basic MB was based on my feelings that my time is worth a lot - I'd rather be playing music than troubleshooting computer problems! Sorry, I missed the "Yes I did" line. The rest still applies.
-
With a background in IT I'm going to assume that one of the troubleshooting steps you took was to run a heavy duty stress testing suite that stressed every part of the system for a couple of days and got no errors or overheating problems. You've also wiped the drive and reinstalled Win10. That done, with L6 support and the MB mfr telling you that there's nothing wrong with your system, my suggestion would be to sell it and get a regular, run of the mill i7 MB like everybody else uses - not a special cutting edge Star Trek gaming board. I know, goes against everything you believe in, and makes no logical sense to me either (also former IT guy), but just maybe, in this case, old school is better? At this point, whadda ya got to lose?

I'd vote for that! I've been a member on TGP for 5 years (and a lurker before that) and never had a problem. They could certainly do worse.

Actually, when you plug into the amp's INPUT, that's the preamp. When you plug into the amp's RETURN, that bypasses the preamp. But, like I said, if it sounds good, it's right!

If there's only the 2 pedals involved, just assign both devices to the same button, the default ON and the other OFF. The scribble will say MULTI. You can customize it to say CH/FL or some such. If there's more than 2 pedals involved in the formula you'll need to use snapshots. Keep in mind that doing it this way, you won't be able to have BOTH ON or OFF. Again, use snapshots.

That won't work. In this case, the only solution is to fire the drummer....

If you want the Strymon to RECEIVE on the Helix Base Channel (default CH1), go into GLOBAL/MIDI and set MIDI PC SEND to OFF. That prevents Helix from sending the default PC# for that Helix Preset, and sends ONLY the PC# you set in Command Center as an Instant Command (don't forget to save the preset!). OR Set the Strymon to receive on a different channel than the Helix Base Channel, and set the Instant Command (IC) PC# to send on that channel. ex: if Helix Base Channel = CH1, then set Strymon to receive on CH2 and Instant Command to send on CH2 In each Snapshot, in Command Center, set the IC that you're using to the PC# (and Channel) of the Strymon Preset you want for that Snapshot. SAVE! Repeat for each Snapshot. If you're using multiple MIDI effects, set a different Channel and IC for each. Remember that Helix will only change a device's preset if you tell it to, so if you have the device on Channel 2 on Preset #012, and on the next Snapshot you use the same IC to send a PC# to the device on Channel 3, the Device on Channel 2 will not change it's preset.

I never had any trouble with the old forum SW. I forget what reason they gave for switching, but I gotta wonder....there's dozens of brands of forum SW out there, how did L6 wind up with the absolute WORST forum SW I've ever seen? I'd insert a banging-my-head-on-the-wall emoji here, but......

Define " ground loop noise". Is it a 60 hz hum or a high pitched kind of squeal?
-
You can switch between pedals A and B, or any other combination of two, but to make it work like a loop switcher you need to use snapshots.

Using ALESIS SampleRack to trigger samples from HELIX
rd2rk replied to ElectricRelig's topic in Helix
Glad I could help. You're on your own with the SD card. That's got to be one of the most pathetic User Guides I've ever seen. GOOD LUCK! -
I know that you've verified multiple times that your cables are hooked up correctly, and that you've got the proper send/return blocks. and yet, it doesn't work. Please describe EXACTLY how you have the cables hooked up. Does it look like this: Guitar -> HXFX IN -> HXFX SEND[#] -> OT INPUT -> OT FX SEND -> HXFX RETURN -> HX FX 1/4" OUT -> OT FX RETURN If so, make sure that you have a SEND/RETURN [#] LOOP BLOCK between the effects you want before the OT and the POST OT FX, and the out is set to 1/4". Does your amp have a switchable serial/parallel loop? Set it to serial. If it still doesn't work, attach a copy of your preset and I'm sure someone who has a HXFX (I have the Helix floor) will have a look at it.
