  1. I would say the plate reverb is what was used back when the slap delay became popular. So you'd be good with that. The main thing for me is the mix. And with the delay you won't need much reverb so keep the mix below like 30%. Play with that parameter and you should get close to what I think you want. Or try some kind of small room reverb since they would also use a studio's ambient room reverb.
  2. This is actually good advice with the regular wah. I think I got this from Glen Delaunne. put the mix at about 75%. gives it a little more organic sound for lack of a better word.
  3. Who said that!?...Who said that!?
  4. Ah. Well, I'm always trying to help.
  5. Yes. Read the manual. https://line6.com/support/manuals/helix Page 31.
  6. What are you going for? In 4/4 timing, what note division are you set on. Would it be, for example a 1/4 note so your delay repeats fall on 1 & 4 as well. or are you set up on 1/8 notes so you actully would get one delay on every beat. It's all about math.
  7. I agree to a point. He does mostly use his own IR's so you don't really learn about the cabs in the Helix and how to manipulate them. For me, this is a big step in learning the Helix and how to get the most out of it. Although I'm sure there are some that would say you don't need to. Having said that, his patches were worth it for me. I got the Mega pak.

    I NEED HELP!

First a question or two. Does the Updater still recognize that the Helix is there? Have you tried other USB ports? If you're using a USB port hub, don't anymore. Are you able to try a different computer?
  9. According to this https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DT770pro?gclid=Cj0KCQiAzrTUBRCnARIsAL0mqcxKoO-4QnZSDwxQCbZ-OF-ipu3Sp5wy034j9BXSnAkUTAaVrgHbmT4aAskUEALw_wcB and this https://www.google.com/shopping/product/4829405583550046830/specs?q=DT770&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjuy6DClrfZAhUb0IMKHd9YBQ0QuC8I9gE they are 250 ohms.
  10. I believe this Yogi quote applies to the OP. "You’ve got to be very careful if you don’t know where you are going, because you might not get there."
  11. You're right. It can't......Anything else?.......Good. See ya.
  12. There are a bunch of free IR's out there. Check this thread out. But I would start with the Line 6 allure ones first. I did like them and they sound different than the stock cabs. Not necessarily better, just different. http://line6.com/support/topic/17076-links-for-free-impulse-responses-ir-here/?hl=free
  13. I wasn't so much saying it was a bad thing although I can see how you'd think that. I'm definitely from the if it works for you, use it school. I was just trying to show a perspective that I didn't get first. Hey, if plugging your amp into a Variac and lowering the voltage works, who am I to say anything.
  14. I would say if you're on the fence about IR's, Try the free Allure ones Line 6 offers. I think they sound pretty good. Compare them to the Helix cabs, which is very quick an easy to do. It will at least give you an idea of whether going down the IR rabbit hole is a good idea. Of course, there is no right or wrong answer. You'll either like to use them or not. But I'm going to guess that there are some IR's out there that the stock cabs cannot be made to sound like. Doesn't mean they're better or worse. Just different. It's pretty much a wasted argument to me. But if you don't like them, don't use them. I personally don't really use them that much at all. But I love the fact that the ability to use IR's gives the Helix a practiaclly unlimited sound potential.
  15. Remember, plugging your Helix into the front end of a guitar amp, only using the amp sim preamps, would be like taking one guitar amp and plugging its FX send into the front end of another amp. It doesn't surprise me at all that you wouldn't get good results from that. AND, as was stated before, using the 4 cable method means you should only use the amp sim preamp. Otherwise you're doubling up on the power amp.
  16. This cannot be overstated in my opinion. I've been playing this way for decades. Starting with my Rockman through my stereo at home for practicing. So I'm used to it. But I can see why people don't get that. The nomenclature used in the amp sim industry makes it sound like it's supposed to sound like an amp in a room. And, of course, listening to all those youtube examples kind of gives you that impression as well. It should be one of the first things people are told/taught when they get into this. The next thing they should be told/taught is if you're going to use a regular guitar amp with an amp simulator, use the guitar amps FX loop, use only the preamp in the amp sim and turn the cab/mic sims off at first. Throw in the cabs later just to see what they might do but start there. Just those two things, I think, would save a lot of people a lot of grief.
  17. What? What's wrong with the tuner? ;) :D
  18. It's been my experience that this kind of relationship starts out great but guitar players are a fickle bunch. Sure, everything is wine and roses now, but wait until Helix II comes out!!!!!! My Pod HD500 has been very lonely ever since I got my Helix. VERY lonely. Long and mutually loving future????? I don't think so. Your words are honey now but they will turn to vinegar as soon as the next latest greatest comes along.
  19. Yeah, like I said, it often doesn't work, but it's so quick and easy to do, it's worth the time to just see what kind of a difference including them, makes. I have had more than a few very pleasant surprises. And, to your point. I believe they were mostly clean patches.
  20. Is your model selector selector switch lit? If it's not, you're using the magnetic pickups which, of course, aren't effected by the Helix and is your Varaix tuning selector switch on MODEL?
  21. The way to tell if snapshots is controlling things is to look for brackets around the parameter's choices. So you are missing, and should have, brackets (like this [ ]) around all of the string notes and the "Custom" parameter in Preset Variax tuning.
  22. I do this too. Black tape with white letters. The angle is perfect.
  23. One little trick I like to do with a cab is to tune in the patch with no digital cabs and when I'm done I then just zip through all of the cabs once. They act like an EQ and sometimes can make a patch pop. And it doesn't take that long to zip through them. It often doesn't work, so don't be disappointed but it can be done very quickly and I would get a very pleasant surprise every now and then.
  24. One method is to get a cable that winds up being two 1/4" plugs that you plug into the FX returns. So, assuming you have a "normal" mp3 player it should be a male 3.5mm stereo plug to two male 1/4" plugs. Kind of like this https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Splitter-Computer-Multimedia-Speakers/dp/B00ZKM3SHK/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1518468808&sr=8-6&keywords=stereo+to+mono+adapter+1%2F4 You can also do it via USB from your computer.
