Gig tonight! Sound check went fine…Waiting for my ride to the venue. It is this space (between sound check and downbeat) where things go haywire! Don't let me down Dream Rig! Fingers crossed, Two Rock backup in place!
-
Allright! I have a major gig this weekend for a major NFL head coach and members of the team, local city leaders and an few all around Muckity-Mucks! Line 6, you are on notice! I sent my amp in to be serviced for output issues and it came back with new tubes, a rattle and weird wind type noise out of the speakers. I am out of warrantee so I am stuck. The output issues seem to have been dealt with so even with a windy rattle, I consider this progress, believe it or not. Further, if I am at volume, the windy rattle can't be heard too much. So I am going to roll with my Dream Rig for this gig. So far, the rig has behaved and is sounding fantastic (windy rattle notwithstanding!) I swear to F'ing All….If I get to this gig and this Sugar Honey Iced Tea starts giving my the blues, If I have to reboot during my show, If I don't get any sound, If I start hearing errant pops, pings and/or whistles….I mean any trouble at all aside from my new windy rattle, after I finish apologizing to the organization that is paying me a large sum of money to be entertaining, I am loading this garbage up, driving to Line 6 and demand that they explain to me why they should not give me my money back! If all goes well, they get nothing! That's what was supposed to happen in the first place! I give them money in exchange for Line 6 top of the line flagship gear that works! Good, bad or otherwise, I will keep ya'll posted on how the gig goes! Wish me luck!!!!

Hard as hell to find the tone I just uploaded. I'm sure Line 6 is working on making the custom tone section more user friendly. Until then, check out my patch and tell me what ya think. JTV-69 Mag pick ups DT-50 2X12 Pod HD 500 http://line6.com/customtone/tone/357321/ Once I get more comfy with the uploading, you can expect that if you see a tone uploaded by me that it is for live use with the all components of the DT50 Dream Rig.

DT50-212 just started to generate a strong noise(hissing)
Tboneous replied to Rockrecorder's topic in DT50 / DT25
Can anyone from the service dept of Line 6 who has experience with these amps please respond on this one? Can hiss = bad tubes? If not, what else from your experience causes these amps to hiss, pop, bang or any number of other issues reported on this forum? The "Gurus" on this fourm are extremely helpful on so many issues, but on something like this, all they can do is say "open a support ticket". As someone who works on these amps for a living, your words of experience would really help a lot. -
Prior to the last update, the master volume knob on the HD was bypassed when used with the DT or L-Series via the L6 link. The last update brings the Pod master volume into play. Where are people setting that in their dream rig setup?

Man! Preach it brother! How's bout this...Doing a Texas Blues gig on a concrete slab? Download a complete Strat rig that has a bit more low end. Got a jazz gig on a hollow wood stage? Download a complete jazz rig with the low end rolled off. You just can't get enough of that Divided By 13 amp? How about having six custom Divided By 13 setups that are perfectly paired with the six Variax models that you love the most? Or I want to hear only Triode DT 50 class A PHDs paired with T-Models that have a wide range humbucker in the neck position? What! The search came up with no results?!?!? Sounds like a challenge that I'm certain one of our brave line 6ers will gladly undertake. The possibilities are endless!

We are coming upon the 1 year anniversary of this post. And yet it seems that the customtone section has gotten worse. Some have a calling to save the whales, some champion the cause of GMO's in our food. As for me here's what I want, what I really really want... A Dream Rig Specific Customtone that will allow you to: Download HD AND Variax settings in one shot Conduct advance searches (I only want PHD amps or I only want DT patches or L-Series) Partial keyword searches These three are the minimum standard. I can think of a bunch of other nice to haves. But since a year has come and passed, and if our request for a Dream Rig Customtone is going to go unaddressed, I would rather have only 3 suggestions be ignored than my list of 20!

The original topic of this thread was that the modeled distortions sounded bad. Not sure what a Keeley or a Neutrino is. Will they help with the modeled distortion tones? Not sure a filter (Neutrino?) will help that. But then, I actually like the modeled distortions that the HD has. But if this fx loop routing thingy you've got going on helps make the distortions sound better, then please keep us posted!

Simular but No Banana! My thought is this.... You open customtone and type in "Jimmy Page". One result out of the many would be call Kashmire (for example) this result would also signify that this is a dream rig specific patch. The information on the tone would say "JTV model: Danelectro, Pickups: Lipstick, Tuning: DADGAD, Amp Model: Supro etc. The info would further let you know if patch is made for a DT or L-Series. If you like what you see, if the patch has good reviews, you hit upload! BAM! Your guitar, HD 500 and your DT/L-series is now updated with the custom tone. All in one shot! Why is that so hard! Imagine the possibilities!

Is Http://line6.com/customtone/search/ Not Working ?
Tboneous replied to Erkoil's topic in Tone Discussion
Agreed! The search is horrible. For that matter, the whole custom tone section should be reinvented. Custom Tone should be capable of: Searching using partial key words. Search via any perameter (amp model, user name, guitarist, tone type etc) Advance search (I only want Phd pre models) Dream rig tones that would include hd 500, variax models/turnings and DT or L-series settings Variax only settings DT only settings Do that and you'd have a good starting customtone site. -
L3m Has A Rattle Just Like The L2m
Tboneous replied to velok's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Different equipment i know, but I feel it is worth noting that my DT 50 has a rattle at certain frequencies as well. -
I had the same exact thing happen to me! Worked at sound check, didn't work at the gig, worked when I got it home. I got every B.S. theory from Line 6 "...well you know this IS a tube amp, and you know, tube amps can be tempermental...." Can you believe that? Still makes me mad. I sent my DT50 in for repairs. They have absoultly no clue why this was happening. They say that they put some new tubes in being very certain to let me know the favor they were doing me because the warrantee on tubes has expired long ago. They sent the amp back to me with a new buzz/rattle that I can't identify! Now I am out of warrantee for the amp of course. Not sure if they fixed the intermittent power issue or not. I have only rehearsed with the amp and it worked fine. Send it in if you can. Tell them about me, They'll remember me. I spoke to dparks and estephens via the support ticket. This all went down in March. Here is my thread about this issue Output Issues I know your frustration. This is not what you should expect from "top of the line" gear, Good luck

I think I get it. The only advice I would give is to trust your ears. Don't bog yoursel down in what you think a "real" amp is supposed to sound like or what frequency something is or isn't. If it sounds good, go with it! Unles you are playing through a guitar amplifier, you are not going to sound like you are playing through a guitar amplifier. Don't worry about that. Turn some knobs, listen to some amp demos on Youtube or something and dial in a tone. Don't try to copy an amp frequency by frequency. Instead attempt to emulate the essence of a particular amp. We are supposed to be playing music, not maping frequency. I hope this makes sense.

I'm not really sure I understand what you are asking. If you could clarify: What do you mean by: "Audio Systems"? ..."listening to the right thing" "Same possibilities to create a sound as if a real amp in my house." That last one is the most confusing. You want it to sound like a " real" amp in your house, yet you are asking if you should use headphones? Thanx for clarifying

I appreciate the virtual thumbs up, but if we are ever to get traction on this, you need to be seen and heard. Hit the green button on my Dream rig customtone post earlier in this thread and then vote here: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Dream-rig-custome-tone/593897-23508 Who knows, the more that line 6 sees a growing demand for a Dream Rig Customtone, they may make a move. But they certainly won't do anything if we simply and silently raise our thumbs. Line 6 needs to see it. I know that I am not the only one. Join me!

I Want To Edit Amp B But Can't Hear That Model
Tboneous replied to WardMan's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
Think of amp A slot as being the primary amp model that the patch is based on. The pod amp models only work on Channel A of your DT. If you turn off the primary amp model, your DT will default to channel B. So amp A needs to stay on. To listen to amp B, turn down the volume on amp A. That works well for me. If you were using two separate Fender Twins, you wouldn't necessarily completely turn off one amp to adjust the other. It'd be easier and less taxing on the amp and tubes to just turn down the volume on one to adjust the other. A quick way to do this is to set exp 1 to control the volume of amp A and exp 2 to control the volume of amp B. Tweak and blend them with the exp pedals hit save. Then remove the exp controls if you would like to use them for something else. If you don't have the extra exp pedal, assign amp A to the JTV volume knob and amp B to the tone knob. Repeat -
You are right. What i refere to as simple is not the workings of the DT vs the L-series but the ability to choose what amplification you are using when downloading a tone. If you type in the word "clean tone" in the custom tone search and choose all products, you get every clean tone for every product that line 6 makes. Why can't one of those product be a dream rig (with Variax settings, HD models etc.)?
-
Understood. Line 6 created the Dream Rig. No one there can figure out who to call to make custom tone support Variax Models? Picking between a DT or an L-series speaker is as simple as a drop down menu with the amplification options listed. simple I included my ideascale link in my previous post. I'm way ahead of you on that front and yet there seems to be little interest there as well. If a little birdy is telling you that it ain't gonna happen, then it probably ain't gonna happen. That's too bad. It would really be cool. It would also be really good value added customer service.

Really? Only 1 other dream rigger sees the beauty of a dream rig specific customtone section? You own a JTV+HD 500(x)+DT 50 and see no value in a one stop download shop for our gear? There are hundreds of possible configurations for the JTV, thousands of possible configurations on the HD, add to that the various ways to configure our DT's and we are talking about thousands of different rigs that we could share and no one is interested in a Dream Rig Customtone section? I am vexed.... What am I missing? This seems like a no brainier to me.

One other discovery I made last night. Once everything is in place: 1) Presets loaded 2) Master Volume cranked up 3) Positive Perspective (Use your Dream rig to emulate the essence of a particular amp tone not try to exact copy it frequency by frequency) Bring the rig into a large room. Get it out of the bedroom (unless your bedroom is 1000 sq/ft with 20' ceilings) get it out of the padded studio. Walk as far away from the amp as the VDI cable will allow and then play. I did this with my Two Rock/Screamer and then with my Dream Rig (PHD/Screamer then Plexi/Screamer then AC 30/15/Screamer the models I use most lately) The distortion on both rigs and all models sounded harsh when standing right in front of the amp but smoothed out fantastically when I walked away. Allow the sound to spread and interact with the room before deciding that the tone is too anything. I think some of us spend too much time right in front of the amp fiddling with the HD trying to get it to sound EXACTLY like a "fill in the amp or fx here" and then stand there longer because we can get it close to sounding like amp this or fx that, but not quite. "Well maybe if I add some EQ, or or or what if I shove a Hermida Zendrive up my FX loop or or or….." Take a breath, turn it up, and walk away. You might be surprised at what you hear.

That's unfortunate! I have been very critical of Line 6's flagship gear. Pain in the you know what as it is, with patience, there is fantastic tone to be had. For those who have not yet pulled the trigger to send their stuff back, try this: First down load these: http://line6presets.com/ These are dream rig specific preset copies from Joost Vergoosen. He is a Line 6 demonstrator from Norway or something close to it. They sound great on the dream rig. These presets use only a few amp models, I think primarily the Bassman model. He uses a lot of the distortions and they sound really good. These are a good start. Learning more about gain staging will go a long way in getting great warm overdriven tones. Also, learning how to properly set up each amp model will pay greatly! Second: It took me a while to figure this one out. Crank the master volume! Get those tubes heated up. Then the distortions behave in the way they are supposed to behave. I am a huge fan of the screamer and the chandler model. I own both and the HD does a fine job replicating those tones. Third: Remember, the DT 50 and the HD500 are not a Fender Twin or a Divided by 13 or a JTM Plexi. Then again my Two Rock is not my Mesa Boogie. But because my Two Rock doesn't sound like my Boogie, it oesn't make me want to return my Two Rock to the supplier. For that matter, one Fender Twin doesn't sound exactly like another Fender Twin. Doesn't make one bad, just makes them different. I bought some ground taco meat that was made entirely of tofu. It was supposed to taste like beef. It didn't. But it was really good! Now, I could be totally pissed off that it didn't taste exactly like beef or I could get with the fact that it's not beef and tweak it so it tastes really friggin fantastic! Which is what I did with the Tofu and is what I do with my Dream Rig. It is a great sounding rig. If you are a purist, why go the modeling route? Just get the setup you want. Bada Bing! No stress. Hang in there people!!!
