A combination of the Colordrive and the Q Filter with the Plexi gave me a decent Black Sabbath (the song) sound once. If you want to use external effects, there's also the VST "Rangebastard" that clones a Rangemaster. I've tried it with mixed results, probably because of wrong settings in the DAW. Let me know if you have more luck with it :)

Is There A List Of The Dsp Usage Of The Various Effects Modes?
Akeron replied to aadrianperezz's topic in POD HD
http://line6.com/supportarchivenew/thread/50339 Unfortunately the pdf with the summary is not available anymore since the old forum was archived... -
Don't forget the "POD Who" version with the blue telephone booth...

Yes I checked the Pad switch and yes I use a Tube Comp or other effects, as I was saying. I was only wondering why I have to do it, since as you say, the original amp distortion would "level the block", without using effects :)

Don't know about the quality but here are the infos: http://forum.u2guitartutorials.com/showthread.php?1151-A-D-D-A-converters-POD-HD500&s=8edd0e2a9113c852d5e40d9c7aa40e0d

I wasn't polemic, I really wanted to know if you\me can do it :) I use the POD with studio monitors and it seems I can't reproduce that gain without using also a compressor or other effects. I use a Gibson SG with stock pickups 490T\490R, so P.A.F like. Peace!

Are you talking about the JCM 800 2204 or the Pleaxi Super Lead 1959? No real experience with the originals, I only observe that any audio clip I listen to seems to have MUCH more gain than a patch with the same Drive in the POD, included Maybe you could record a clip with you real Plexi on 8 and show me how you can have the same distortion level with 80% on the POD without boosting it in some way or another...
-
I expect they fix a problem with many amps in the POD regarding the total gain. At this moment, if you don't use an effect or two before the simulated amp to boost the input (say the Plexi Lead Brt) and you set the amp's Drive to 80%\100%, you only get the amount of gain you have at 3\4 in the original amp! The estimate is only an idea, is not perfect since I go by memory. You could verify that trying to match the gain of real amps clips that use no external effects, not even the jumpering of the channels, to create the distortion. A solution could be to add a parameter to control the level of the "Guitar In" input, so you won't have to loose blocks only to correct that problem, or simply correct the levels in the modeling of the amps. How unrealistic that could be?

It could be that what you hear are "ghost notes" that are also in the original amp models (even in the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe). Try modifying the "Sag" and "Bias" deep editing parameters

Who Is Getting A Good Wah Sound, And What Are You Using?
Akeron replied to partytrain's topic in POD HD
I prefer the Weeper model (I own an original dunlop CryBaby). I use Mix set to 30% with the guitar tone (bridge) on 10 or to 50% with the guitar tone on 4 1\2, to have a less harsh high end. My second choice is Fassel. -
It has nothing to do with pickup impedance, but it's the amp input and effect impedance. The amps are normally 1M but 3.5M sounds brighter and with more gain than 1M. There is a table with the different impedances in the advanced guide manual.

How To Play Pod Hd Through Computer Speaker/studio Monitor?
Akeron replied to bluediamond's topic in POD HD
Of course you can. I use the POD with two Yamaha HS5 powered studio monitors via XLR. Using the XLRs the volume is lower than using the 1/4 inch jacks, so you might use that instead, I don't care. -
It sounds great! What do you have in the patch?
-
On the back of the receiver, I've got a cable with one side with two jacks connected into two sockets named "Aux" and the other side is a single jack connected to the "Phones" output of the POD
-
My Stereo AV Receiver (Yamaha also), has the speakers connected to it and a jack (custom built) that I connect from the stereo Aux output, setting it to "Aux" mode, to the "Phones" input in the POD. That way I have no delay and the sound is good. Recently I've bought a pair of nearfield monitors (Yamaha again) and I think the sound is better that way, but that's another story...

Funny thing is, if you go to http://line6.com/company/executiveTeam/ you can see some people that worked for Avid before :D

I guess the confusion is caused by the fact there's written "POD HD500 Edit Flash Memory v2.21" in http://line6.com/software/index.html with the same text description as the firmware update below...
-
You said that 1) The distorition occurs when Im running a patch (say dual tones - Acoustic / Vocal 5) 2) but my current input is set... 18db on the vocal It seems the vocal path is distorted by the 18db setting...

Assuming this is not fake (I hope it is, since the specs don't seem that different from my current hardware), nobody could ever predict what the final package would have. I mean, assuming this is out in September and it has more or less the same features of the current HD500, how do you know if, let's say in 2015, they will put all the requested features for this current unit (input volume anyone?) in a new firmware? The problem is having any faith they could do that and\or have the patience to wait. Everything could happen, or nothing at all...
