The hardware has the capability to be upgraded (via software) as long as the DSP chips have capacity. The current modeling is light years ahead of even the PODHD stuff, which was quite good in itself. I don't think the hardware is the limiting factor of development just yet. As far as things like touchscreens or physical knob interface, it shouldn't really effect base functionality. At this point, beyond adding more amps, the only thing left is allowing custom models. I mean, being able to assemble your own amp, picking what tubes are in what spots (V1 is a 12AX7, V2 a 12AU7, etc...) EL84/6L6, how many, what wattage, output transformer type....etc. Also putting different speaker models in different cabinets, and also mic position between center and edge of speaker cone. These are the type of things that I can see being a welcome addition to the Helix. I don't see any of these features necessitating new hardware. This all seems like a great big beta test of hardware in the last few years. You had HD500X with the improved POD HD modelling, and mulit (dual) paths, and there's the Firehawk FX(which also uses PODHD) with built-in Bluetooth, but single path. The Firehawk FX interface is eerily similar to the Helix, which is why it was such an easy jump for me (from FHFX to Helix LT). Maybe these technologies will all roll into a great package, hopefully for no more cost of current generation of hardware and the current hardware is discounted some. I say this because the hardware development costs should have recovered, based on most business cases of 2-yr ROI. Why spend the money when you won't make any? Helix released in 2015. I would say they have made their money back plus some to be profitable (they don't do this for free). Helix LT is in a similar situation, released in 2017, with minimal costs as most of the internals are just a derivative of the original. The hardware development of the Bluetooth functionality was tested and proven with the Firehawk FX/Amplifi platform. Thoughts, anyone?

Yeah, that reason is how they made it cost less. My suggestion would be to use the LT, as it can send and receive Ableton MIDI messages. The new update is also going to allow you to use regular keyboard buttons, so if you already know the mapping via keyboard, you can use that instead of MIDI NOTE/CC/PC messages.

You can hook up the Helix (Floor or LT) up to the computer with the USB cable, you don't need any interface unless you are multi-track recording other instruments at the same time.

tuner displays wrong notes HX Stomp tuner displaying wrong notes
robertgoddard replied to dmeros's topic in Helix
I usually have to do a harmonic on the 12th fret to tune my bass. Try that -
I'm interested in getting a Variax. If I read this correctly, you can hook the Helix up to PC/Mac via USB and the Variax via VDI cable to the Helix, and edit the Variax via Workbench from PC/Mac with the Helix as a passthrough? If so, I"M SOLD.

MIDI help please! Using Helix to change Banks in Strymon Big Sky.
robertgoddard replied to Verne-Bunsen's topic in Helix
No, just during a clock cycle..... it's computer lingo.... Basically, it's looking for CC 80 and 82 to be at 0 when pressed and then for them both to be at 127 when released. This needs to happen at the same time, so within the same "stream" of data. Same thing for the other way, 81 and 82 from 0 to 127. This isn't momentary, it's the state of each switch. I think you could possibly set the switches from momentary to toggle. Setup one switch to toggle both CC 81 and 82 from 0 and 127. Setup the other switch from to toggle CC 80 and 82 from 0 and 127. -
MIDI help please! Using Helix to change Banks in Strymon Big Sky.
robertgoddard replied to Verne-Bunsen's topic in Helix
MIDI does transmit in a stream, but it's via the clock cycle. Each note/command is streamed in order, but all in 1 clock cycle. So if the CC#s were on during the same clock cycle, that's essentially at the same time. -
Also, while this is anecdotal, they used the same design in the Firehawk FX and the issues aren't as prevalent there. I had one before going to the Helix LT. The amount of people complaining about broken expression pedals is almost non-existent in the Firehawk FX community. That's because I'm sure there are a lot less Firehawk FX units sold than Helix LT. The more you sell, the more a problem will come up. Also, like cruisinon2 said, Line 6 has offered a Lifetime Warranty on the expression pedal. Most cases I've seen, they send you a new LT unit w/in 1-2 days and you send your old one back in the packaging.

Exploring deeper functions of Helix - USB control??
robertgoddard replied to themetallikid's topic in Helix
I use my Helix with Ableton Live to control click/fill tracks/pads for my church. I based the functionality on the video done by Worship Tutorials on YT. In the video, they use a FBV Express MKII, but same principles apply to the Helix. https://youtu.be/FWyTm31u8aw -
external expression pedal setup for helix floor for Wah
robertgoddard replied to tjparkinson's topic in Helix
What I'm assuming is that when you want to use the built in expression pedal, you're pretty much forced to go to max volume to switch the function from volume to wah. He wants to set the volume with the main pedal on the board and use an external pedal as the wah. I'm not entirely how to set this as I don't have one, but it should be able to be done.- 6 replies

Save your Firehawk presets to your account. You can refer to your app to dial in sounds similar to what you had on the Firehawk. Just switched 2 months ago and it was worth it 1000%
-
Just go to the input for Path 2 and select the input as one of the Returns. Don't put any processing in the blocks.
-
Why don't you try just using the Beatstep into the PC direct and have the PC change (command issued from Mixcraft) the HX Stomp with a midi command? Use 2 USB cables. Might have to get a hub if you are using a tablet.
-
The easiest way to save a preset to the Firehawk is to long-press one of the A/B/C/D buttons on the Firehawk itself and then navigate where you want to store it with the up/down arrow buttons and long-press the A/B/C/D button where you want to store it.

What do you have the volume set to? In my experience, setting the volume to half (red ring) has helped dramatically.

Yeah, here you go: Just search my username, robertgoddard or you can search for 2Drive2Delay -
A couple of questions - from a potential new owner
robertgoddard replied to ian-'s topic in Firehawk
"Correct. It is limited to three changeable blocks. You could have two overdrive pedals and a modulation, or two overdrives and a delay, or three delays, etc., but no way to have four in any combination." Technically, yes. In reality, no. There is a 4 Block patch out there that lets you run 4 user selected blocks but you lose the FX Loop. -
New to Firehawk FX- Best Cabling Methods...?
robertgoddard replied to loradirmeyer's topic in Firehawk
I'm not sure that you can do four cable method with the spider. If I were to use that amp with the Firehawk, I would set the spider up to a clean tone with EQ flat. Make sure the amp/line switch on the back of the Firehawk is set to amp. Then just treat the Firehawk like a multi-effects unit. You can use the Firehawk to go direct via XLR or 1/4" output. This time you set the amp/line switch to line. The amp/line switch changes the output level of the 1/4" output. It also changes the amp/cabinet emulation within the Firehawk. Your best results would be coming from a full range and full response speaker cuz that's exactly what you would be sending to the front of the house. running the Firehawk through an amp, especially another digital modeling amp, kind of negates the whole purpose of the Firehawk. Good luck and have fun!- 2 replies

Looks more like there's an issue with Line 6 servers, not your Firehawk. I'd wait a little bit and try again later.

So you've tried this already: Q: How can I reset the FIREHAWK FX to its default settings? A: To perform a factory reset and restore the FIREHAWK FX to factory settings, press and hold the Master Volume knob and the Tap button as you power up the unit. Unfortunately, any patches not backed up to My Tones prior to the reset will be lost If that didn't work, you may have corrupt firmware. Download the updater software and driver and you should try this: In the event of a failed update, power up while holding A/C and retry the update using the Line 6 Updater found at www.line6.com/software.

Make sure your Amp/Line button is in Line mode. In Amp mode it doesn't model

I've found that flashing the v1.10 firmware, rebooting, and flashing back to v1.30 firmware helps solve a lot of issues.
-
Yeah, the looper function leaves a lot to be desired. I'd rather just get an external looper. But at the prices of most loopers, Firehawk FX + Looper cost will be Helix LT prices.

Setting the level for each patch is done in the Amp Block. The Volume setting on the HD Amps (Blue) will set the channel volume. The Master Volume is like turning the amp up/down via the control on the amp, where as the Volume setting is like sliding a fader on the soundboard. The Pod Farm amps (Red), just use the Volume setting. Also you will have to take into account the compressor block after the Amp block, as that can effect your overall volume as well.
