  1. Not to be curt, but if you just follow the instructions you should be ok.
  2. You can just run the latest update procedure.
  3. I put this up on Ideascale.
  4. GNI Octa Fuzz, which is apparently what Andy Timmons uses, like in Winterland. Haven't been able to get that sort of sound out the oactave-ish fizzes in Helix. But then again, his tone is so masterful always, it may not be the gear...
  5. No problem with this process. Backed up that one 2.11 patch using the 2.20 editor, upgraded my Helix to 2.20 (which by the way went like clockwork, zero issues), imported the 2.20 bundle I'd saved from the loaner, imported my IRs, imported that one 2.11 patch, restarted holding down switches 10 & 11 to update preset format, good to go. One bit of pilot error: I didn't initially realize IRs weren't part of a saved bundle. I'd never used a bundle before, for the reasons everyone has said, but in this case it seemed like the simplest way to go, and it was. I had backed up everything separately also, so I just imported my IRs, done.
  6. I posted a bit ago about Line 6 giving me a loaner while my Helix was back at the factory for repair. My own Helix is back to me now. It's on 2.11. The loaner was on 2.20, so I had to install 2.20 on my laptop to load my patches onto it. When I got mine back, I wanted to make sure it was ok before updating it, plus during the work week I wanted to play in the little time I had, instead of messing around w updates. Net of that is that I now have a patch I'd like to keep on my own 2.11 Helix, but my laptop is on 2.20. Ideally, the plan would be to back up that one 2.11 patch with the installed 2.20 editor, update my Helix to 2.20, load the 2.20 patches I already backed up from the loaner, then load that one 2.11 patch if possible. PUNCH LINE QUESTION: Can I back up that one patch from a 2.11 Helix using the 2.20 editor? If not, I don't think it's worth installing the 2.11 editor just to back up that one patch. Would be a minor shame, I like it.
  7. Probably just a typo, but that's incorrect, you most definitely CAN have different settings for the same block in each snapshot, up to 64 different parameters per patch.
  8. You probably know this, but you can change the min and max frequencies of most (all?) of the Helix wahs. However, that's about all you can change. In particular, you can't change the "Q" -- the amount of filter resonance or peaking that happens at the filter frequency. That's super surprising to me, since the Q of a lowpass filter like a wah is a hugely important and fundamental filter parameter, and one of the major differentiators between wahs. Some real-world wahs even let you adjust it. You also can't change how steep the filter is. Wish you could change both of those.
  9. [Title misspelling fixed, sorry Frank! It was right in the msg...]
  10. I'd like to tell you all about a recent experience I had with Line 6 support, and Frank Richotte in particular. A little while ago I went to the first unofficial Boston area Helix meetup, and the left 1/4" output on my Helix showed up dead, where it had been working shortly before. Other folks there helped me out, since I hadn't brought gig-level spare everything, but I still had a problem. Frank was there, pretty cool of him we all thought, and afterwards, I got in touch with him about my situation. What happened from there was probably the single best customer support experience I've ever had. Here's what Frank and Line 6 did: Overnighted me a loaner Sent an overnight UPS label to send my Helix back Serviced it in roughly one day Overnighted it back to me Sent an overnight UPS label to return the loaner How's that, huh? Pretty remarkable. I don't think we should expect that level of service all the time for everything, but Frank did say it was OK to talk about how that all went down. Even if I didn't like my Helix, which I do, a lot, that experience alone would be a huge plus in its favor. Great stuff. Thanks again to Frank, and to Will in Support, I'm super grateful, and super impressed.
  11. The GoFundMe campaign for Allan's funeral expenses and support of his family has wildly exceeded its goals and has been closed. Amazing outpouring of support for an amazing man.
  12. Make sure the specific amps you're interested in are posted on Ideascale, then come back here and make some noise about them, so they can get voted up by people who like them.

    Old Man Happy

There's a bunch of us oldsters in this neck of the woods...
  14. Mine is back at the factory with a dead left 1/4" output, after a weird power event at an unofficial Helix meetup. It's already been fixed, and is on its way back to me. Have to say, wish this hasn't happened, but Line 6 did so right by me, Frank Richotte in particular, pretty amazing. Details don't matter, not a repeatable situation, but seriously, noted.
  15. Agree, I'm not a super high gain guy, and I dig Epic too. Also Elektrik. But the king of Line 6 originals still has to be the Litigator. Those are all really great.
  16. So hey, hope that goes well! Best wishes from my end of the unofficial Boston Helix meetup :)
  17. How would you think this compares to a similarly spec'd powered Matrix cab?
  18. Not the same thing, but I found that scrolling through presets quickly by spinning the Presets dial sometimes causes the editor to lose contact w Helix. Sometimes it ggets it back on its own after a bit, and sometimes I have to quit and restart it. I hadn't seen this before 2.20, but since I don't use the editor much, just for IRs and backup really, and it doesn't happen all the time when I do, I can't definitely say it's new since then.
  19. Mostly a product like Helix is focused on emulating OVERDRIVEN guitar amps. If you want to sound like you're playing your acoustic through a Marshall turned up really loud, it's a great choice. It's also a very flexible recording interface and system controller, if those capabilities are useful to you. If you just want chorus, delay, reverb, etc, and that's all, there are way cheaper and in some senses more capable choices.
  20. Nuts and bolts of life, rubber meets road, even for such an amazing guy, in such a time. I'm sure he wasn't super well off.
  21. It's funny, as this thread continues, I find myself wanting to post about a bunch of different models I've been getting into. Really, I've liked most of them, though some with limitations -- doesn't every get completely clean for example, or has some unwelcome low-level distortion even when basically running clean. I guess my point is that it's worth revisiting ones that didn't grab you, or the community as a whole, initially.
  22. Glad you figure out something workable. You should be able to do the same thing with stomp switches too.
