  1. Try downloading it again, might be corrupted. Not at my Helix to try it, but the file as it downloaded to me isn't obviously broken or truncated, and quite a few people seem to have downloaded and liked it.

    Free IRs

Not to be a jerk, but while that's a nice enough tone, it doesn't remind me much of an acoustic guitar. That's what it's intended to be, right?
  3. It's been said, but Freidman BE-100.
  4. What he said, snapshots. Or if you don't want to dive into them yet, a single footswitch can switch the bypass state of multiple blocks at once, whether they're on the same path or not. You don't need splits for that. But snapshots.
  5. We least if they're aware of it, a quick-fix update seems appropriate.
  6. You could set up a pedal to control preamp gain and inversely its output, that's roughly what my snapshot versions do. I kind of just wanted to use my guitar's volume control, old-school-style though. I'm thinking about treating Helix more like an amp I can just play through, less like a pile of tech I have to be face deep in all the time.
  7. Agreed, just haven't found one, or maybe it's settings for one, that keeps volume more consistent without sounding more squished than I'd like. I'm a fan of squash sometimes, but here I'm just looking not to get *that* much louder when I turn the guitar up.
  8. Doesn't make sense to me. If it keeps the level going INTO the amp steady, it won't clean up, right? Point is to drive the amp less, but keep the total output level a little more constant than it would be naturally.
  9. Very nice! You guys... It's lucky I don't have a lot of money to spare, or I'd be spending it on music stuff all the time. Wait, what?
  10. I'm with hideout, feel is different in many of the amps, how they respond to different picking, turning your guitar down, etc. OTOH, certainly there's a lot of overall similarity, not just in Helix tones, but in the tones out there in the world of "rock" music. The differences that feel so huge to us holding the guitar are subtle shadings, really.
  11. I've been experimenting with going from clean(-ish) to overdrive with the volume knob on my guitar, instead of using different snapshots. Tone-wise, it can be very cool, but I'm getting more of a volume jump than I'd like. Sounds like a job for a compressor, but I haven't found one that can handle the job without sounding too compressed when volume is full up. The amp itself is already compressing then anyway, and adding more doesn't appeal. If anything, I'd like more compression on the cleaner sounds, but I don't really need that either, and it's backwards from physics. My understanding is that that's one thing the Kemper does really well, compensate for volume differences with different drive levels. Has anyone figured out a good solution to this in Helix?
  12. It definitely does work. Which IR is selected is just a parameter setting, can be controlled by the snapshots controller like any other parameter.
  13. The plural is actually IRs, no apostrophe, which would be belonging to an IR, like an IR's sound. OTOH, I don't even have words for how little you can worry about spelling and grammar on teh internetz if you plan to want to go on living...
  14. The home page at Helix Help lists the new stuff, and there's an Amps section in the menu. https://helixhelp.com/
  15. No specific knowledge, anything's possible, but I'd suggest buying Helix (or anything else) for what it is now, not what it may do in the future. Anything else is a recipe for heartache.
  16. I've done that, nice to have all the tone and overdrive controls of a preamp available.

Definitely second the stand up guy thing.

Glenn's IRs aren't the usual cab emulations. They're essentially preset EQs built to match some specific tone. He calls them "tone match" if I remember right. Don't remember for sure if some of his patches include traditional cab IRs or not, but I think most recent ones don't, just tone match. Which isn't to say they're not useful, just that you're getting a different thing, to be used differently. He covers this in his materials.

    Need Helix Help.

Welcome! Can you bring more specific about what you're trying to do, and what's not working, or not the way you want it?
  20. I'll have to revisit those, never got much joy out of them. Didn't like the Amplitube version either.
  21. Cool! Does look like a bit of a project to haul around, but as you say, way better than what a person used to have to do for anywhere near that functionality.
  22. Another plus of per preset switch layouts is that most of the functionality already exists, since all those layout modes do, as does UI to choose one. Free assignment OTOH requires more flexible switch assignment and display UIs, neither of which exist now. I agree that somehow showing which mode a preset is in would be good. OTOH, you can tell pretty easily by what's shown on the scribble strips -- all stomps, all snaps, any mix. Another thing that maybe needs some thought is putting the layout switcher closer to hand while editing a preset, so you don't have to dig into and modify your global settings to change it for that patch. In the someone else's patch scenario for instance, if the patch was built for 4+4, but you're normally 10 stomps, it's not ideal to have to change the global mode to one you know you don't want, just to update the patch. Maybe it's another invisible step past the input and/or output blocks? Not great, not sure what would be better. Overall I still like the idea though. Another little bit of kicking it around, and I'll put it up on IdeaScale.
  23. You may be right katerlouis, it's hard to really know what it's be like to work with without actually trying it. I certainly see the benefits of free switch assignment, as I said. Would you still have multiple "modes", with separate switch assignments? I suppose the next step would be if that global setting had these switch assignments options: - Global - Per patch - Free assignment
  24. Another plus of per-patch layouts is that it makes working with patches built by someone who uses a different layout trivial. If you've ever bought or downloaded patches with for instance 10 stomps when you use 4+4, the only way to even see what's on offer is to change to the layout they use, which means you can't use your own stuff right until you switch it back. With per-patch layouts, if they didn't come with the appropriate layout already built in, it's easy to do it yourself. Just switch to that mode, then save each of them, then they'd each be in the mode the author intended, without messing up your other patches.
