  1. All the way seems to be wide open on my JTV69S. It's not on my 500.
  2. My JTV69S neck is just the way I like it. String spacing is spot on and centered. Very playable. I prefer it over my Strat neck. Mine is fairly new from Sweetwater in late August. I had to do a little adjustment to the string heights and the Low E intonation was off a bit but I sort of expect a new guitar to need a setup. Scale length is a big deal to some folks. You can change the scale length if you change necks but you need to stay with a scale length that suits your taste. For me I do not like the shorter scale lengths that you find on many Gibsons.
  3. Also make sure you download the HD500 advanced manual because it won't come with the unit.
  4. There is lots of great advice here. Read as much as you can and then play with the unit when you get it. You can download a bunch of patches from Customtone to get started. That is what I did and it helped me see how others were setting it up to get good results.
  5. There are some significant differences in the interfaces: With VDI, the D/A conversion is done in the Pod for both the Mags and the Models. With the 1/4 inch cable, the Mags are analog and the D/A conversion of the models is done in the Variax. There will be some tonal differences with different hardware.
  6. It's the USB drivers that you really want to uninstall. (or reinstall)
  7. I have noticed that too on my Variax 500. It was not that way originally but it became that way after one of the updates. It always sounded better with the tone rolled away from max treble.
  8. I would not recommend the line 6 VDI cable. There are far better ones out there.
  9. Never tried tuner while using the pod as a sound card. That might be the problem.
  10. Never heard anyone complain about the low end on a Variax. Mine sound fine to me on a low E which is the lowest note I play. Low E is 82 Hz and it sounds solid on my amp.
  11. Sounds like you got a bad Pod HD. It should power your Variax over the VDI cable. If your VDI works elsewhere it must be a defective Pod - lacking the power connection.
  12. There isn't a transformer in the world that converts AC to DC. IT only converts AC to a different voltage / current AC! Most "Wall Warts" are DC and they have a rectifier and filter inside. The HD500x Wall wart is one of these. Most other Line 6 wall warts are just the AC transformer. They are not interchangeable. Not sure why they went this way now. I have several of the old AC units that came with old pods and my old variax.
  13. No. You have to adjust the volume of the device plugged into it.
  14. Worse than that the X3 uses an AC power supply and the HD500x uses a DC power supply!!!!
  15. I am still learning the HD500x. Only had it for a couple weeks. I grabbed a bunch of patches from Customtone and I have been playing with them to learn how to tweak things to what I want. I have found a few that really sound good with my JTV acoustic models. I am playing through an EV ZLX-12P powered PA speaker that has decent full range capability. Once I get more comfortable with tweaking other patches I can start making my own from scratch. I figure that the more I look at what others like the more I will learn about how to get the most out of this very flexible Pod.
  16. Thanks for attaching this! I really want to check it out! I am most interested in great Acoustic tones (Taylor 414 and JTV69).
  17. The only switch to turn on the battery is in the 1/4 inch jack. If nothing is plugged in there, the battery is not connected. You can remove the battery completely if you always use the VDI cable. You can also play with the Mag pickups and the normal 1/4 inch cable without the battery.
  18. You must unplug the 1/4 inch cable to turn disconnect the power on the Variax. That is as good as removing the battery. Lithium batteries are actually very good at holding a charge over time when unused.
  19. I would try using the 1/4 outs in line level first. That may work just fine and you can pan the outputs in the pod. Your monitors probably have other than XLR inputs I assume. Most do.
  20. HD is way better IMO. I have had the X3 Live since it came out.
  21. First thing I did when I connected my new HD500x to my PC was save all of the setlists to a file. Then I can always reload what it came with. After I downloaded a bunch of stuff to the user setlists I saved again.
  22. Have you searched Customtone?
  23. Do you have a well charged battery installed? What is powering your Variax when it's connected?
  24. No it is not easy. If you are not very confident in your soldering I would not recommend that you do this yourself. You have to work with very small wires that are easy to damage.
