I agree too... I like my POD and my other Line 6 gear. I am all in. I occasionally post about other things you can do to augment it with other gear to increase the functionality but it is still the centerpiece of my setup. I don't mind hearing about other gear but not interested in hearing the public "suicide" as someone else once called it, of those that decided to move on. If you have another piece of gear you like, by all means tell us about it but try to do it in a way that doesn't make it sound like we are all idiots for not following your lead... in the end just use what you like and sound the best you can... we are all in the same boat...

See the links below for the adapter cable you would use and some extenders if you need more length. You would plug into the left and right unbalanced outputs, #25 on page 8 of the Pilot's Guide and set the switch there to Amp to begin with. If for some reason it's not loud enough, you could try switching it to Line. This will let you use the POD to it's full capability and should work just fine for home use and playing out in a pinch. Another option is to just get a headphone adapter plug and use the long extender cable to go from the POD headphone out to the POD CD/MP3 input. Stereo Cables, 10' Extender, 25' Extender, Headphone Adapter The truth is to fully take advantage of the POD you will want to get a true FRFR setup, a decent pair of powered PA speakers if you want the capability to play out or studio monitors if you plan to only play at home. What you have will work fine for now but you are still playing through a guitar cab and speakers and this is not optimal for a stereo POD. They just don't have the full range you really need and will color the sound on their own. Don't worry about it though, play with what you have until you really get a feel for it and can make a good decision on what you want going forward.

These inputs are designed to bypass the internal preamp and effects and apply the input directly to the power amp input. Other than its a 1/8 stereo plug vice 2 separate 1/4 mono plugs it does exactly the same thing. I have no doubt it will work as designed without any issues. The only question is how hard you drive the input signal, probably should have advised to set the 1/4 output to amp vice line to avoid clipping but it will get loud no problem.

The best thing you can do is to just think of the head as a power amp and EVERYTHING else is done in the POD. You should get a stereo adapter cable to go from your POD L and R 1/4 outs to a 1/8 stereo plug into the CD/MP3 jack on the back of your head. This will bypass everything in the head and make it a plain power amp. Be advised that this has no volume control on the amp! It is full blast! Use the Master on the POD HD Pro to control your output volume. As far as leveling volumes between patches on the POD, that is a well documented feature (problem?) with the HD series. As with the real amps, there are differences in output between the various amp models. That is the primary purpose of the channel volume rather than the master volume. My suggestion is to max out the quietest amp models channel volume and then lower the other amp models to match it. Use the Master volume as your overall volume control. It is a steep learning curve with the POD but you will get there. READ THE MANUALS! and of course Meambobbo's excellent guide...

You are right. I COULD buy a Kemper but I don't WANT to. I am not making a living with my music, just having fun, living the dream. I have a hard enough time justifying my total purchase layouts considering the instrument, the pedals and gear, the amps and PA, the recording stuff, software, computers, time and space etc. I suppose I could sell everything and start fresh but I would lose all my JTV support and probably take a beating here and there. I am seriously considering selling my amps and old cabs and upgrading to a new PA to go full time FRFR. That will be a similar layout to getting a Kemper. Still a hard choice to pull the trigger on. So yes, I choose not to buy a Kemper. And I strongly argue that for me at least it isn't worth the price premium. I like what I have put together and enjoy what I get out of it. I know which areas could most use improvement. I am under no illusion at this point in time that my skills level is going to improve so much that the small gains in tone from the POD to the Kemper would be noticeable. In fact, for me at least, I would lose a lot of functionality that I have no inclination to give up. But yes it is a choice I make freely and understanding all the options. Guess I am a fanboy, not that I like that particular term...

Don't you have it backed up to a hard drive??? I generally save patches but I definitely save setlists and occasionally the whole bundle for security.

I like the ala carte idea too. I just got a Zoom MS100BT to add to my rig as another amp/distortion path option with my 500 to save DSP and that is exactly what you can do with it. iPhone app to download and get a fully functional 15 minute demo of the amp or pedal installed by bluetooth and if you like it you buy it. I think this could provide a lot of new options for us and generate additional revenue for Line 6. In my opinion we REALLY need some new pedal sims, better OD's and distortions, models of some of the hot new pedals on the market. No surprise that a lot of folks think the current distortions are a weak link in the system... https://www.zoom-na.com/products/guitar-bass-effects/multistomp/zoom-ms-100bt-multistomp-guitar-pedal-bluetooth#features

like you, I have on a few occasions just reflashed my POD back to factory specs. Make sure you do a global reset and then recalibrate the expression pedal too. That MIGHT fix your issues with the pedal and HD Edit. Personally, I don't have any issues with HD Edit so not totally sure... Global Reset Pedal Calibration

I saw on another forum where there is going to be an adjustable Global Speed Parameter (GSP) to allow us to dial in super fast lead riffs... :D

unfortunately surpassing or exceeding current technical standards of excellence is not the main factor driving the changes in majority acceptance. It is always accompanied by factors such as appearance, cost, functionality, ease of use, physical size, etc. When presented with a less technically perfect product that exceeds on all those other levels, well you know which way the consumer will go... They sell far more Honda Civics than Mercedes AMG's for example...

good points all but the question was never "will digital surpass or exceed analog in specifications" (even though that may happen at some point in time) it was "will digital ever REPLACE analog" and clearly for tv at least, that is the case and also for hifi and I dare say soon enough for our subject matter as well...

HD500 + L2 / L3 for BASS! (anyone?)
radatats replied to ColonelForbin's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
I definitely need a new FRFR rig... my old Peavey cabs with a velocity 300 just don't cut it. Been working on a dual path patch to do some Royal Blood type jams with my JTV and HD500. My rig just sounds flubby. Interested to hear how others are making out with their bass tones. A pair of L series is a little too much cash for my budget so who else is running bass and sounding good? Anybody else try building a Royal Blood type patch? -
no doubt about it, you definitely sit in that crusty old diehard category... lol... switch to FiOS... and you couldn't pay me to watch a CRT ever again...
-
I remember when crusty old diehards used to say "this digital video in a box stuff will never replace analog live stage performance, it just doesn't have that 'actor in the room' feel to it..." lol...

Parts for Variax 500 I can't seem to find.
radatats replied to amo500's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
not sure about the exact piece you need but this is the only place I know that carries Line 6 replacement parts. Check it out and see if they have it... http://www.fullcompass.com/brand/LN6/Replacement-Service-Parts.html -
another gem Peter, thanks...

It's a really good practice tool. The drills and exercises had me doing things I wouldn't have done on my own and helped with speed and accuracy. YMMV...

so replace the tubes goes right before let them cook for 5 minutes...
-
uh, when do you put the tubes back in in that procedure?
-
More like I am tired of my Vette, I am buying a Ferrari. Both go really fast and look good but one costs a lot more than the other...

There already is, its called Rocksmith and its pretty cool actually... No Variax but it uses real guitars... http://rocksmith.ubi.com/

Can an HD300 use the Settings from a Flextone III?
radatats replied to Butch_Snyder's topic in POD HD
All the more reason to avoid the 300 or 400... they are both discontinued and will no longer receive updates or upgrades. Go with a Firehawk FX or a HD500(X) as they will give you years of service with continued support, updates and new features. Well worth the change for you in my opinion. -
Can an HD300 use the Settings from a Flextone III?
radatats replied to Butch_Snyder's topic in POD HD
another thought would be to get a Firehawk instead of the 300. I beleive you will be way better off in the long run. The 300 has been discontinued and will not get new updates, firmware, models etc. It has limited functionality compared to the other POD HD models or the Firehawk. At least the Firehawk will be able to recreate your tones fairly easily since many of the same models will be already there and it should have an easier learning curve than the POD HD models for setting up your tones. Remember that with either of these options you will still need an amp or go straight to PA. You can always use the Firehawk into the FX Return on your Flextone, bypassing all the internal amps and effects or just go straight to PA which is probably what you will want to do in this setting. I think it will be well worth the extra bucks to go Firehawk over an HD300...
