  1. try running the drum machine into the MP3 input instead. You can control the drum volume from the Boss and use the POD master to control guitar volume. The looper has no midi sync so will constantly move out of sync as you play anyways...
  2. on a side note I have to say that adding the Zoom MS-70 CDR in the FX Loop of my HD500 has eliminated all DSP limits for me. I place it after the mixer and before any other post effects. The stereo noise gate is awesome and I don't need any of the L6 gates so that frees up DSP and slots on every patch right there. It has a 7 band stereo graphic EQ that can serve as a global EQ when needed too. The multiple chorus, delays and reverbs are really nice and I can offload those effects to the Zoom when I get to a DSP limit issue. It fits right on my board too. About $120 and well worth it... now if I can only crack the midi nut so it changes with the POD patches...
  3. You actually have a quality guitar from the glory days of Japanese guitar manufacturing by Matsumoku. Getting hard to find these gems at good prices. They are real keepers... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matsumoku
  4. Sounds like you should have gotten a M13...
  5. Sorry, my bad... that's for the HD500. I didn't see this is in the M Series thread. That patch is all the distortions in the POD, each on its own FS for audition purposes...
  6. that's interesting since I understood they were made to order with a 3-4 week waiting period, not premade and stocked anywhere... Hadn't heard Line 6 was doing half price on their custom work...
  7. try this patch I made to test them out... seem pretty well matched to me... http://line6.com/customtone/tone/499976/
  8. Sweetwater has the US versions. I don't see the 89F but they are all custom made to order anyways so I am sure you can order one if you have the cash... http://www.sweetwater.com/store/search.php?s=jtv&sb=high2low
  9. My HD500, JTV-69 and DT25 are by far the best, most expressive, flexible pieces of gear I have ever had the pleasure of using in over 40 years of playing. The complaints I hear from time to time on these forums just boggle my mind. If you can't get the tone you want out of this gear, get a new mirror and look closely for the problem... trust me its in there. Are there any little things that would be cool to have in an upgrade? Sure! Do I really give a rats a$$ if they come? No... I could never go back to doing things the old way. It was far more expensive, hard to put together and cart around, time consuming, required constant maintenance, had to be tweaked just the same and was generally a one trick pony. Still I look forward to see what good things are announced at NAMM and will be the first to load any new firmware... Thank you Line 6... Even if nothing new ever comes...
  10. Correct. You cannot save the knob positions on the DT directly.
  11. The big problem with that is the knob positions are not saved with the topo settings. While you can load 8 different amp/cab models only 2 are really usable at any one time. Try going from a maxed out Blackface on topo 1 to a Treadplate on topo 3 without adjusting the knobs and it will rip your face off! In order for this to work you would have to have the POD built into the DT to remember the full settings for each one but that ain't gonna happen. That is what L6 link is for!!
  12. you really haven't given us much to go on here. Were you using the DT standalone or with a POD HD? Just because topo 1 was not so loud means nothing by itself. When using the DT standalone the topology switch actually pulls up different amp/cab/mic combinations. There is no way to be certain what amp cab model was in your buddy's DT. It was probably a Blackface but you can choose what amp and cab you want in each of the 4 topo slots for each channel. Maybe you would like the clean Hiway or AC30 models better. Bottom line, there is no certainty that a DT25HD with your cab is going to give you what you want without work on your part. Get a USB midi cable and use DT Edit software to configure the DT the way you want it. Or better yet use the HD500 to really take full advantage of all its capabilities.
  13. While many seem to absolutely love their DT's I am on the fence. I certainly can get sweet tones from it but overall functionality is better with no noticeable sacrifice in tone with just the POD to the PA. I find myself using the DT less and less these days and while I will probably keep it I am focusing on FRFR stereo tones and patches. There are tons of good options out there for powered PA speakers besides the L series but if you have the cash for a pair you probably won't regret it tho...
  14. WTF? only 4 models to choose from? 3-tone Sunburst, Black and Olympic White SSS and Lake Placid Blue HSS... very strange... http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/JTV69S3TS So I just called Sweetwater and he pulled it up in the system. Says those not listed are discontinued at Line 6. Doesn't know if they are coming out with something different at NAMM... Pretty disheartening I gotta say...
  15. Take yours to his house and try it. Actually I doubt it is the wiring since you said there is no noise until you add an amp model. If it was the wiring, the noise would most likely be there all the time... Finish the troubleshooting and lets find out where the problem lies. A DI box will definitely not help you at this point.
  16. Here is the solution I came up with for acoustic through DT. Not perfect but pretty usable... http://line6.com/support/topic/5553-acoustic-solution-for-jtv-with-dt-amps/
  17. If you are set up for studio recording and want to keep the same patches/tones then you really need a FRFR (full range, flat response) system to play through. Suggest a quality active PA speaker designed to do just that. If you want to keep the stereo effects get two of them. If you go with an amp you will have to rework your tones to compensate for the different frequency response capabilities of guitar amp speakers and cabs.
  18. OK not so sure its a gate issue. I often don't need any gates and NEVER more than 1. You say it does this with a blank patch? Lets start from scratch. 1. save your patches to the computer and then reflash the POD with the latest firmware, not saving any tones. 2. change to an empty setlist and a blank patch. 3. connect your guitar, turn everything on and what have you got? Should be dead quiet, no noise at all. 4. if this is good, add an amp model and recheck. should be quiet still except for some hiss with the high gain models like F-Ball or Elektrik. Let me know how this goes and we can keep troubleshooting.
  19. What happens when you try to use both a DT and an L2? How does the POD configure itself?
  20. not true. the conventional old school wisdom says pedals always beat multieffects but not so fast... so many intangibles like cables, connectors, impedance, and the multitude of unsavable settings. Today's top multi's like the HD POD's eliminate all that and the noise that goes with it. Certainly you have to work to dial it in but done right you can go head to head with just about anything. And with a lot less hassles...
  21. I don't think the problem is with the L2 setting, its the POD's output setting that automatically switches when using L6 link. I only have the DT25 not the L2, but it's the same thing. The moment the DT turns on with L6 connected the POD switches from Studio Direct to Stack Power and my stereo outs to the board sound like garbage. It is not switchable once L6 link is in use. Someone earlier seemed to indicate that the 500X can switch even when using L6 link but I would really like to see that confirmed. If true, then why not the 500? No difference in the firmware...
  22. IMHO you should go for the JTV. I have both and if I had to choose, well its no contest, JTV hands down. The DT is great but I can do so much more with the JTV and the 500 straight to the PA and I love the stereo effects and dual amp things that just don't translate as well to a mono amp even with tubes. If you already like your tones with your current setup, stick with it and expand your range with the JTV. If you do go with the DT, expect to have to rework all your patches. You probably won't be able to go straight to the board from the POD because of how the output mode is forced when using L6 link, it just won't sound right. You would have to use the cab simulated direct out from the DT instead.
  23. there should be no issues with HD Edit in Win 8. You don't need anything special to install HD Edit on as many computers as you want. Install Monkey first and use that to get the right drivers and software for your particular machine. No deauthorizing required as far as I know...
  24. thanks for sharing, very nice work and great playing. I am glad someone else mentioned this first as I am loath to criticize anyone that puts their work on display but... your technical excellence needs to be balanced with a melodic hook, something for the listener to grab on to and remain rooted throughout the song. Satch is great for that; there is a recognizable hook to every song. Just something to think about going forward... less is often more. ;)
