  1. Just so you know, they could not have put EL34's in your DT since they would not physically fit or work. 34's can not be swapped with 84's. 34's have an octal base, 84's have a noval base and they both require different operating voltages. I am sure they just put in a matched set of JJ EL84's. If you want to try other tubes check out these links, they aren't too expensive - The TubeStore , Doug's Tubes As for the patches, I suggest you go into your DT with DT Edit and see exactly what amp pre model/cab/mic is stored in each position along with the full configuration. Write it all down and build a POD patch to match exactly. Now see how they compare. For me they match up pretty damn close...
  2. Not even going to try to troubleshoot, there is already good advice here. If you can't get it working then you can use the alternate method for your gig. This assumes both your POD and DT work but won't connect with L6 link. Simply run your POD out from one of the 1/4 outs into the DT FX return. You won't get the automatic power section configuration but you will get the tubes working just the same. Play with the Class A/AB switch and the Topology switch to get close to the tone you want. Your POD will work just like always. This should get you through the gig at least...
  3. I believe this means that these guys are the only non Line 6 folks that will be getting the Variax guts to put in a commercial guitar product. They will be made to order, totally custom built for you, not widely available. Price is estimated to be $3000 - $4000, comparable to a US made JTV. As far as firmware, well it should be the same as a L6 JTV since its the same guts. Unless you really want to spend the dough go get a regular JTV and have fun. If you do pull the trigger for a Shuriken, you better post pics!
  4. stick to one thread at a time please. We all saw your rant and wish you well getting it resolved...
  5. sorry for your hassles but I have my doubts the factory sent this out... there are middle men along the way you know. There don't seem to be any of the big name retailers in your area that go direct from the factory. I have no idea what actual music store you used but they most likely ordered it from a supplier, not the factory direct...
  6. Section 5150 is a section of the California Welfare and Institutions Code (WIC) (in particular, the Lanterman–Petris–Short Act or "LPS") which authorizes a qualified officer or clinician to involuntarily confine a person suspected to have a mental disorder that makes him or her a danger to themselves, a danger to others, and/or gravely disabled. A qualified officer, which includes any California peace officer, as well as any specifically designated county clinician, can request the confinement after signing a written declaration. When used as a term, 5150 (pronounced "fifty-one-fifty") can informally refer to the person being confined or to the declaration itself, or (colloquially) as a verb, as in "I have a possible 5150 here" or "(Someone) was 5150ed". Apparently that refers to us thinking they are actually working on it...
  7. it's officially rumored to be official...
  8. I'd like to check it out but you should find a more user friendly host than the one you are using...
  9. that's news to me... never saw that in the manual... is it documented or explained somewhere?
  10. most probably not anything wrong here. With a standalone DT (no POD) the topology switch actually selects different Pre models, not the physical topology like you would suspect. So for topo 1 you probably have a Blackface which is relatively much quieter than the Treadplate on topo 2. The LVM is louder because that switch adds in the modeled power section on top of what is already there to compensate for the lower volume you are searching for. You really need to get a USB midi cable like the M-Audio UNO and a third party editor like DT Edit and see which amp models are loaded in the DT. You can set 8 different amp models, 4 in channel A and 4 in channel B, one for each topo selection. While you are connected use Line 6 Monkey to make sure you have the latest firmware installed as well. Once you connect a POD HD by L6 link, the POD takes over all the modeling and effects and tells the DT how to physically configure the tube power section. In this configuration, the topo switch actually controls the negative feedback loop (NFL) and give you an additional 4 flavors for your particular amp selection.

not to spoil the parade but, your current amp is fine for practicing at home but will not work with a band situation. Just too small and a 10" speaker won't cut it. Unfortunately I don't think it will work well with another amp either. You probably won't be able to hear it unless it is cranked too high for its own good. Seriously, think about getting a second amp that will work well for your situation all by itself. At least 20-25 watts (tube) or 75-100 (SS) and a 12" speaker, preferably with a FX loop and ability to add a second cab output I know you are just using the effects and that's fine but as you progress, leave room to explore all the other tonal options the POD amp sims give you, especially through the FX return of a good tube amp. Then again, if you just give it a chance the POD can really shine through the PA and monitors by itself and save you a boatload of cash and trouble carting it around...
  12. This might not be perfect but... there is no need to use the modeling in the second amp, just the power section. So set up everything in the first amp the way you want it and use the M13 in the loop. Now send one M13 out to the first amp FX return and the other to the second amp FX return. You are still sending a fully processed tone to each amp and you should get stereo this way. You will have to set the second amp topology to match the first but you should be good to go...
  13. Regular CAT 5 cable sucks. Try getting a quality cable like the one from these guys. The best in the business... http://btpa.com/BT-0964-XXX.html
  14. ok, so next make sure you are studio direct into your SS amp and does the issue persist across all patches or just some? are you using pre or full amp models? is it the same or worse with cab sim on/off? Try changing the input Z levels too to lower some high harshness. We really have to know all the details of how you are connected and all the settings before we can try to go further troubleshooting...
  15. So the point is to isolate the problem to either your POD or to the amp/cab. If the sound is good through your headphones then most likely the POD output is not the issue. Perhaps your cab or amp needs another check. Is there a different cab you can hook up to check it out? and I meant connect your guitar either direct to the amp (without the cab) or using a different pedal and see what it sounds like. Is there a problem with the amp or cab itself...
  16. how does the POD sound through the headphones? how does the amp/cab sound with a different input (not the POD)?
  17. first thing you should try is reflashing the firmware. Use your midi cable and monkey. Then without the POD connected see if the amp works on its own. If all is good hook up the POD and see what's up. Also check to see you have sound coming out of the POD using headphones. Try a different patch, maybe it got corrupted. Check back when all these things have been done and we can go from there.
  18. no way this went back to the factory. Probably to a regional authorized repair shop that is sitting on its duff instead of doing the work. See the link below for the display and other Line 6 parts. Open a service ticket with Line 6 direct to see what is going on... http://www.fullcompass.com/product/474570.html http://www.fullcompass.com/brand/LN6/Accessories-Parts-Hardware.html?brand_id=LN6&rewrite_name=Accessories-Parts-Hardware&sortChange=1&categoryOrder=Bestselling&ipp=100&view=Grid
  19. The main point of the DT series is to provide a tube power section to match the digital preamps, cabs and effects of the POD. It was designed to be used with the pre models and will physically configure itself to match your choice of preamp. The stand alone DT uses the pre models with cabs to achieve its tones. So to answer your question, you should use the pre models rather than the full amp models. That being said, there are no hard and fast rules about it. After all, in LVM the DT will use the full amp model to add a little beef to the tone anyways. Play around with it to see what sounds good rather than just trying to color inside the lines. But if you want to match the standalone DT tones, you need to use a pre model with the default cab selection. As far as the L6 link, its only a digital connection and doesn't care what models, cabs, or effects you use...
  20. Glad you asked because I Googled it and found this previous post I had never seen! Really good stuff here... http://line6.com/support/topic/2080-%C2%A1new-update-workbench-hd-%C2%A1edit-visual-table-excel-v4/
  21. got a few interesting candidates here. Let me know what you think... http://line6.com/customtone/profile/radatats/1/
  22. The only way to be sure is to hookup your midi to the DT and computer and use DT Edit to see exactly what amp model is stored there and how it is set up. Then if you load the exact same pre model in the POD and use the default cab and DEP all you have to do is set your tone stack and drive and you should be good to go.
