  1. G'Day Nicos! you're funny! seriously most of us spent months getting to understand how this gear works and building tones that work for us. Not that simple to just send you what you want. You can't assign patches to FS1-4 for a start... good luck with this... start searching CustomTone for patches that meet your needs.
  2. I think you really need to try one out. Everything you want to do can be done but its kind of hard to do just a theoretical exercise here. If you decide to get one and want help let me know. Using a second expression pedal is probably the best way to do everything you want at one time. Up to 50 separate parameters can be assigned to the pedal so you can really make a huge change to your tone at one time. Good luck!
  3. really nice bro... great tone... gonna have to try it out. I may change to pre models to use with my DT25.
  4. thanks for the upload. Interesting to see that you just used a preamp model, no power section... Good job though.
  5. This is what you should see if you are logged in and at your tone. As you see here it says "click to edit"... Even if you are logged in on another page or the forums you may need to log in again on Customtone to edit your tone.
  6. actually you can have two sound cards active, one for playback and one for record. Right click on the volume icon and select Playback device and choose your laptop speaker. Tab over to Recording devices and select the HD500. You will also have to open the POD ASIO driver and turn down hardware monitoring. There is also a block you can check for a boost to your input signal if it is weak. You should be able to record with the POD now and listen through the laptop. You will not just be able to hear your POD however. You will still have to open a DAW and use the Record option to listen. If you don't have to disconnect all the time and its not too hard, you are better off leaving both record and playback on the POD and plugging your speakers into the POD instead. Use an adapter from the headphones out if you don't want to use the 1/4 outs. This way you will just plug and play with the POD and all your computer audio will come through as well. You can jam to backing tracks for instance.
  7. make sure you are actually logged in first.
  8. Just click on the line you want to change and the edit box will open. the comments block has a little grab spot on the lower right corner to open it up. hit enter to save.
  9. yeah, one of your patches is corrupted. Maybe downloaded or meant for another unit and converted. You will have to load them one at a time until you find the culprit.
  10. I still have G.A.S. and it will probably never go away! However, the tone search really ended when I matched the HD500 with a DT25 and a JTV69...
  11. pre effects are placed "Pre" or before the amp such as wah, compressor, overdrive, distortion and post effects are placed "Post" or after the amp like chorus, delays, reverb. In reality post effects are between the preamp and the power section using the amps fx loop. POD just places them after the amp block.
  12. no you missed the point. One FS for amp switching not involving any other FX blocks. All your other FS are free to do what you need them to do.
  13. duh... don't know why I didn't think of that. forgot you can set the bypass volume to zero, great call...
  14. Yawn... stretch... is this deja vu? guess you don't play out...
  15. Great idea about the expression pedal controlling the amp channel volume and the fx loop return level. Pretty sure that would work but I honestly can't remember if the FX loop return can be set to zero... Might have to switch to the clean amp and then turn that down... As far as the DSP goes, you can use all 8 blocks along with an amp but certain effects and amp combinations use tons of DSP just due to their HD modeling. I just said that so you weren't surprised later. You may never run into that with your choice of effects. However, pitch effects do use DSP. I think you will be good to go with the POD HD even with your proposed configuration.
  16. I got an attenuator from Carl's Custom Guitars for $45 on eBay. It came last night and I hooked it up just to see if there was any benefit from driving the power section of a DT. So far, and it was far from a complete test, it doesn't seem to do much other than lower the volume. I couldn't really hear any distinct increase in saturation or distortion specific to using the attenuator. I will play more with it later this week and really try to put it through the wringer but I have a feeling that it isn't what I thought it was. Glad I didn't spend a bunch on a Rockcrusher or some other high priced unit. For lower volume jamming I just change the DT to Class AB, Triode and topo 1. Works much better than LVM in my opinion... If I don't hear any tonal improvement using the attenuator with a cranked amp then there is no point in loading up my DT for no reason.
  17. As far as I know, the reverb knob on the DT is totally separate from whatever you have in the POD. It controls the internal reverb for the internal selected amp model. And honestly I don't know if it defaults to the amp model on chanenel A, topo 1, or what the last selected internal model was. So if you have a spring selected internally and turn it up, it is being applied separately and in addition to anything else being fed from the POD. Does that make sense? If someone else can confirm or deny that would be helpful.
  18. I assume you mean the POD HD Pro X? Then yes, the shortboard or the express are right for that. I have the Rocktron Velocity 300 and it is a great amp. I am guessing you already have cab(s)? If not, you may be better off with powered speakers, an L2 would be ideal.
  19. You can always do away with the final Volume block by just assigning the expression pedal to the amp Channel Volume instead. That trick works great. One other thing is just because there are 8 blocks available, doesn't mean you won't run out of DSP trying to set up an effects intensive patch. You may be better off setting up multiple patches and switching. There isn't a big deal switching patches as far as I can tell. You may need to adjust your style a fraction but its definitely workable. It is more of an issue it you are using a DT amp with your POD as the amp has to physically change the power section for certain models and that can be noticeable.
  20. Not sure why it would make any difference? They both have the same models and other than a couple of minor tweaks in the 50 and the tube differences, they should be a good match together. Obviously volume could be a factor and depending on what actual cabs you are playing through. Interesting question though...
  21. *** Something you need to know but hasn't been mentioned yet. The topology switch has a completely different function depending on whether the HD500 is connected by L6 link or not. - Without the POD, using the DT in standalone mode, the topology switch completely changes the amp/cab/mic configuration. You can assign a different amp model to each position and in each channel. That means there can be 8 different amp/cabs loaded into the DT at any one time with 2 being available for use, one on channel A and one on channel B. - Once you connect the POD with L6 link the POD takes over the amp configuration completely. The DT configures itself to match the amp model selected in Channel A of the POD and disregards all internal configurations. Now the topology switch acts as it should to change the negative feedback loop (NFL) for the selected amp. You were playing the DT in standalone mode which means you were actually changing amp models as loaded from the factory. There was a big difference because they are totally different amps and as you would expect, play very differently. Some are class A (25w), some class AB(10w), for instance. If you want to level out the internal amp models you have to use something like DT Edit to go in via midi and make the necessary changes. Its not that hard but isn't outlined in the manual either. Finally, as others have mentioned above, even using the POD there is a significant volume difference between the various topology settings within the same amp/cab combination. I is the quietest and III probably the loudest. You will have to try them out to see what you like best or just leave them as they come. Either way, that is what the Channel Volume is for. Use that to level out your patches as that only changes volume and does not affect drive levels as you turn it up or down. As a side note, I never use Low Volume Mode (LVM). I use the DT amp settings instead to lower the volume when I need to for home practice. If you set it to Class AB, Triode, and topo 1, it will be much quieter than say, topo 3, Pentode, Class A. Using these switches gives you a huge range of volumes with not too much of a change in tone and to my ears sounds much better than LVM. Same thing if you find you need it a little louder, change to Class A, Pentode, and topo III.
  22. With a $300 budget you should be able to get a used POD HD 300/400/500. Record direct without needing POD Farm. Plenty of low cost DAW's out there. Far better than the other stuff and you can take it to rehearsals, auditions, open mics, gigs...
