sometimes... I have the DT head and my own custom 2X12 cab with V30s. I have tried all combinations both with cab sim and without and it really just depends on what I want to end up hearing. Cab sims are not bad, really just depends on what physical cab you are playing through and whether it sounds right to you. If cab sims are off, you lose a lot of customization items like mic choice, resonance, thump, and low cut... There is no single right answer. That's the beauty and the beast of it... you can change it a million ways and sometimes you are still not satisfied!

No, no, no! We are not running through the flip top at all. We are only using it to "lock" the DT from switching to the amp in channel B and to control the physical topology. By placing no amp in channel B and muting channel A in the POD we effectively send the clean "unamped" acoustic guitar signal straight to the DT power section through channel B! We also have to change the input to Variax-Same to ensure that our signal is passed to channel B... This setup provides the clean, unprocessed guitar signal from our Variax straight to the DT power section without ANY amp sims... PS this is more easily done in HD Edit... I would post a link to the patch but custom tone is AFU. If you want to search for it I uploaded it as Rads Acoustic DT...

1) Of the 4 "voicings" they describe Classic American Clean as Fender and Class A Chime as Vox. Would the British Crunch be "Marshallesque" and Modern high-gain be described as Mesa Boogie ? - right, download the POD HD Model Gallery for more details 2) With the later firmware , you get all 30 HD amps loaded. So then how would I select , say, DR.Z in the DT25's channel A ? Would I do that with an editor of some kind ? - there is a third party external editor available for use through midi. 3) Does the latching footswitch allow you to go through all 4 voicings within the 2 channels ? Or does the footswitch only allow you to switch channels and to switch voicings you have to be at your amp and flip the switch by hand ? - I believe the FS only changes channels A and B. 4) If you connect a POD HD with Link 6, can I assume you can through all your POD presets like your connected to any other amp or FRFR etc ? - absolutely, totally integerated. 5) Can you use just the effects of the POD HD without the POD models ? eg. I want to use the POD tube screamer on the amp's channel A ? - yes and no. If you are connected with L6 link and no amp in the POD, the DT defaults to channel B amp. You can do what you describe with the 4 cable method but what's the point? The amps/preamps in the POD are identical to those in the DT. 6) What should the POD settings be when connecting via Link 6? Preamp models with STUDIO / DIRECT ? - usually you should use the pre models but the POD defaults to Stack/Combo Power Amp when connected by L6 link as soon as you turn on the DT. 7) How does the low volume mode sound ? Is it okay for practicing at home ? - I never use it. The latest firmware for the POD allows you to turn the volume down with the POD master so it is quite useable at lower volumes.

There is no reason to use the FX loop or to bypass the L6 link connection. What we want to do is bypass the amp modeling within the POD and send a clean signal to the DT. This is easily done with a few small settings changes to an empty new tone patch. Here is how I did it and it works great. - Set input to Variax, same. (you may need to change from global to preset which may mean checking all your other patches) - make a dual channel setup with Fliptop pre amp in channel A with no cab, change topology to III. (topology III changes the physical settings in the power section and just gets that nice sort of resonance you would expect from an acoustic) - no amp in channel B. - in the mixer Mute channel A, channel B to 0 or higher if needed, and center both channels. - place Tile reverb as last effect in chain. - place a graphic EQ in the pre section with the two lower sections set to -2db, top 2 knobs to +1db. (adjust to taste, this worked for my cab) This patch works amazing with my DT25 head, 2X12 sealed cab with Celestion V30s and it should work fine with any other DT setup. It's not rocket science. I don't know why it shouldn't sound good at volume for everyone as it just sounds sweet with my set up. It may not be perfect but it works with all 5 acoustic models.

nope, if you use a pre model that is what you get both DT and XLR-1/4 outs. With the L3 set for electric guitar it should sound good...

the DT XLR out is notoriously weak in all configurations. I haven't heard anyone using it consistently. There aren't many true mono effects in the POD. L6 link will sum all stereo signals to mono for you so don't worry about that. You can go into the POD setup to configure how you send your signals to each L6 connected DT amp, maybe L series too, not sure (Pg 9, Setup, POD HD Advanced Guide). If you only want to send the left side or the right side or both you can select it. Your best bet is to send an XLR feed from your POD to the L3. Drop the DI from the XLR feed to the L3 and you may do better. XLR is ALWAYS mono anyways. Or rather, half of a stereo signal. Left is always left, right is always right. You can always put a mono effect like a hard gate at the end of your chain to ensure same signal is on left and right side no matter what. Also try keeping the mixer centered on both channels, you get a little more volume that way too so watch for possible clipping or distortion.

OK, so I thought about this all afternoon and worked on it as soon as I got home. This patch works amazing with my DT25 head, 2X12 sealed cab with Celestion V30s and it should work fine with any other DT setup. It's not rocket science. I don't know why it shouldn't sound good at volume as it just sounds sweet with my set up. It may not be perfect but it works with all 5 acoustic models. I put a flip top in channel A, centered the mixers and muted channel A. Set input to Variax, same. I have 2 Graphic Equalizers setup on FS1; when lit it is for pos 5, when off its for all others. 2 different reverbs on FS 4 and analog chorus on FS 3. I set the topology to III and it just gets that nice sort of resonance you would expect from an acoustic. I set the POD master to 100% and adjust with the DT master since you really don't want power section breakup. Let me know how this works. Nevermind the link, the site is still messed up.

mono jack is good because both channels are summed to mono...

POD HD500 Pilots Guide, page 8, item 18, Unbalanced Out. The left 1/4 out sums stereo to mono.

I have gotten a pretty nice acoustic tone from my DT but the trick is to bypass the amp block. Make a dual path patch and put any amp or pre in the A channel, nothing in the B channel. Put a Volume pedal in channel A right in front of the amp block set to zero, disable the expression pedal. Now your plain unmodified guitar tone will flow direct to the power section of the DT through channel B. Remember that the physical topology depends on which amp you pick so try various ones till you like either I,II,III or IV. Pop a little reverb at the end of your chain and its not too bad...

Hold on to your horses on the Android tablet... it only works with Apple products at the time being. Maybe, perhaps, potentially there will be an android app in the future but there might also be a new firmware for the JTV that fixes the known problems too... just saying, lol...

The left 1/4 out sums both stereo channels to mono for you... good to go.

Sonic Port And Amplifi App
radatats replied to StratoSphere82's topic in Sonic Port devices / Mobile In
you can use the Sonic Port / Mobile POD app and stream your output to the AMPLIFi which you can in turn control with the AMPLIFi app. Of course you can also stream from BIAS, Amplitube, Garage Band etc. and still use the AMPLIFI app just to control the amp itself. I know the AMPLIFI will play your streamed audio but it is not clear whether that streamed audio can be processed by the onboard amp sims and effects. You may only be able to do all your guitar processing within your iGear and use another iOS product to mix with other audio and then stream the final signal to the AMPLIFI for actual amplification, like a glorified boom box. -
apparently the new web site has link problems to individual tones. I can log in and go to the page with all my tones but if I click on an individual tone it just defaults to the home page. Search by user name is not working either...

This is another similar item that looks promising. Might be more what you are looking for as far as live playing... don't know the weight but more like what I thought AMPLIFI would have been. Behringer Ultratone KXD12 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/KXD12/

this is a toy - IK Multimedia iLoud 40W Portable Personal Speaker and its $299. If I was just starting out I would be all over something like AMPLIFI, especially since it doubles as my personal sound system. People trashed amp modeling in the beginning too but it broke new ground. Lets give it time to grow. I expect a higher priced HD version with all the bells and whistles is in the future and will be the FRFR counterpart to the DT line.

Glad to hear it. How do you like the V30? I have pair in my own 2X12 cab and I love them...

This is another new class of gear designed for the entry level home player. It is light years ahead of anything in its class as far as a BT music player and the iOS integration will capture the interest of a new generation of players. Take a look at the POS IK Multimedia iLoud 40W Portable Personal Speaker. It is BT enabled and plays streamed audio. 2 3" woofers and the whole thing weighs under 2 lbs. It is $299... Which would you pick? I think this is just the beginning for this line and as I posted elsewhere, I expect by the end of the year there will be a much more expensive AMPLIFI HD with all the I/O features and L6 link, VDI and HD models and L series DSP. If they do that it could well be the FRFR counterpart to the DT line and I will definitely consider buying one.
-
yep, that opens up amplitube, bias, jam up and a whole host of other iOS apps to stream direct to a ready made FRFR solution... this wasn't geared towards us HD owners but it does open a whole new line of business for Line 6 and gets a new generation of players interested... If you've been comparing the AMPLIFi to an Axe-FX, you’re an idiot.

This looks like it has great potential... can't wait to actually try one. http://www.behringer.com/EN/products/KXD12.aspx
