I'm sending you the bill for the therapy I will surely need after clicking that link...

I get what you are saying, I really do. However, I agree with David. I have been playing for a long eff'ing time now and honestly, it has never been as easy or as overall satisfying as it is today with a JTV, HD500 and a DT25. I have no illusions of suddenly forming a successful touring band or gigging for a living. And even if I did, I really don't think I would want to lug all that expensive, heavy gear around. What I have now goes anywhere with minimal troubles and sets up in a flash with consistent tone and playability every time. And recording has never been easier, there really are no obstacles to it any more. That is an area I can concentrate on comfortably now. I understand the desire to own the real thing but for me and most people that is just not a realistic outcome. I can't afford all the amps I wish I could play! And realistically I would buy 4 new versions of my POD before I spent $2000 for an amp I would never take out of the house! As far as letting my grandkids play my gear, well I haven't had much luck getting any of my kids interested in playing in the first place. My son finally took my original Spider 210 but I don't think he has ever turned it on... A couple of weeks with Rocksmith is about as far as he got... I have plenty of nice things to pass on but kids generally want new stuff... Go figure... As far as company service, well, it certainly could be better but I didn't buy my gear to open a dialogue with Line 6. They have answered every legitimate service ticket I have submitted. I probably won't base any future purchasing decisions on the company's web site, forums, or potential, possible, future maybe upgrades. That has all been bonus to me and much appreciated. I believe the Yamaha buyout will mean a big improvement in the customer support are going forward and imagine there are still big things in store for us. Yamaha obviously saw something worth buying and corporate does not buy past performance, they buy future opportunity. If they release something better than what I have now I will be a discerning customer. I am not debating anyone's decision, just giving my opinion. In the end you just have to do what makes you happy and if that is other gear,do it!

while they recommend high impedance headphones I am quite happy with my Shure 440's, about $100 everywhere and they are low impedance. Just watch your volume levels with the POD master when using.

you won't know unless you go in and set them up yourself and write it down somewhere so you don't forget...

If you have a POD HD500 all the amp models are in the POD and when you are connected to the DT with L6 link you bypass the internal amp models in the DT and just use the power section. All the amps are easily pulled up and the configuration is saved in the POD, that is what makes it so valuable with the DT. You are not limited to what amps you have available. The POD tells the DT how to configure its topology based on the amp model selected in the POD. If you don't use a POD see my last post.

Just remember if you are using the head alone, you have 8 amp models available without any computer, 4 on channel A using the topology switch and another 4 on channel B. However, the knob settings do not save with the amp model so whatever you have physically set is what you will get. If you have the knobs set for a Blackface and switch to a Treadplate your knobs are still set for the Blackface and you will blow your face off! I you are just using your head stand alone, you don't need a computer as it won't do anything useful for you.

I worked on the patch that was causing the trouble. I was stumped at first but I learned something new tonight. You have to set the channel volume for the amp when it is turned off as well as when it is turned on! If you want no sound on that channel when the amp is off, you have to turn the amp off and then set the volume to zero. When you turn that amp back on the volume goes back to where it should be. The F-ball was going to volume 100 when turned off so you could still hear a clean guitar signal on that channel even when the amp was turned off. PS if you pull up the amp page in HD Edit you can watch the channel volume go to zero when you turn off the amp and back again when you turn it on. Pretty cool, I did not know that!

you need to connect to a computer with midi and use one of the editors at this link: http://line6.com/support/topic/124-user-created-dt-editors/
-
you don't unless you have a POD HD. The only way to access them and make changes is by midi connection to a computer with DT Edit. otherwise you only have what it came with. If you have a POD HD you don't need to change them because all the same amps are in the POD.

Acoustic Solution For Jtv With Dt Amps
radatats replied to radatats's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
nice... first one definitely gets the acoustic nod... if you didn't know, you would not suspect it was modelled or through a DT tube amp... I am sure an L series probably sounds even better but its another $800+... -
this is a great tool for the kid going off to college to jam in the dorm, the teen new to guitar learning in his bedroom, the yuppie that plays around in his studio apt without bothering the neighbors... in other words the majority of casual guitar players. If you are at all serious about playing out or recording this is not your go to gear. Love it for what it is, don't hate it for what it isn't...

I had a hard time with acoustic from the DT but I came up with a solution that seems to work well. This patch works amazing with my DT25 head, 2X12 sealed cab with Celestion V30s and it should work fine with any other DT setup. It may not be perfect but it works with all 5 acoustic models. This setup provides the clean, unprocessed guitar signal from the Variax straight to the DT power section without ANY amp sims... I put a flip top in channel A, centered the mixers and then mute channel A. You can use any amp model in channel A, it is just a placeholder. I use it for low DSP. We are not running through the flip top at all. We are only using it to "lock" the DT from switching to the amp in channel B and to control the physical topology. By placing no amp in channel B and muting channel A in the POD we effectively send the clean "unamped" acoustic guitar signal straight to the DT power section through channel B! I set the topology to III in HDEdit and it just gets that nice sort of resonance you would expect from an acoustic. We also have to change the input to Variax-Same to ensure that our signal is passed to channel B. You may have to turn up the mixer levels for volume matching and add an EQ for tone shaping. I use a reverb in the chain too. I also use this setup for synth tones through the DT. Place all your synth and FX blocks in the B path or the post mixer and you will get the pure synth without the amp coloring just like with a FRFR solution. Here is a link to a set list with a couple of variations of this concept... try it out and give me some feedback if you like the idea or not... http://share.cx.com/yGRXwV

Now, Here's My Idea Of A 'dream Rig'...
radatats replied to Spiderplayer7's topic in Dream Rig - Line 6 Product Integration
Thanks for the feedback! Just to clarify, the way I have it set up totally bypasses the amp in channel A and sends the clean acoustic signal to the DT power amp with just your effects. It does the same thing as your FX loop idea but keeps you using the L6 link. As for changing POD output, unfortunately if the DT is connected with L6 link and turned on, there is no way to change the default POD output setting. so I have to buy the song and download it onto my phone to see what tone works with it... if I don't own it, I can't match it,,, another fail... EDIT - you can't tone match streaming songs or from the cloud. It has to be physically on your phone but you don't have to "buy" it, you can copy your CD or transfer from your computer. That still implies that you "bought" the original material because of course, you wouldn't illegally download it would you? This just smacks of digital rights issues and I don't get it. It supposedly is pulling the info from a database in the cloud so what difference does it make if the song is on your phone unless there is some copyright BS involved along the way? Probably enforced as a condition of getting the app on iTunes... Glad I don't want it, I have enough stuff to play with as it is...

unfortunately Mixcraft is 32 bit and everything I have is 64 bit... :(

well I have used a lot of different DAWs and really like Studio One 2 and Ableton Live 9 but they just released a new version of my absolute favorite, Tracktion 5 with a host of new features. This has the absolute easiest workflow and setup, handles all my VST's with ease and the new midi editing is a real step up, 32 and 64 bit versions, free demo, $60 for the full monte. http://www.tracktion.com/ What do you use/like best?

is it true you can't stream anything unless it is physically on your phone?

Can You Open A Spider Iv 75 Watt Amp And Remove Brain
radatats replied to davesintexas's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
I don't really know ANY manufacturer of electronic gear that will give the user instructions on taking their units apart when there are no factory identified user serviceable items inside. There would be huge liability were anything to go wrong. We are always free to do it ourselves but only an authorized service center wil be given the factory instructions. May not be what you want to hear but if that is your policy, to not buy from any manufacturer that won't give you that level of instruction, you better start building your own stuff... -
post the problem patch and I will take a look at it for you.

I stand corrected... it appears you are right about those for the old Variax, I have not seen any specifically for the new JTV. I did find a couple of real interesting threads I had not seen before on dialing in the JTV trem system... http://line6.com/supportarchivenew/thread/73637 http://line6.com/supportarchivenew/thread/72577

Dt+/- Pod Behaviour: Can I Clarify A Few Things?
radatats replied to SteveGordon's topic in DT50 / DT25
That is correct. You will have a 2 channel amp but you can change which two you are using at any time with the voicing switch. The knob positions are what they are. They are not saved between different models... If you have the knobs set for a clean Blackface and switch to a Treadplate, the knobs are still set for your Blackface...
