he was using the POD with the JTV last night, I had a great view from the balcony, small club... Nobody even noticed he was playing a Les Paul during the acoustic bits and I guarantee nobody walked out going "ya know, that rhythm guitar sounded digital"...

Line6Tony says he forwarded it to the web team for action... http://line6.com/support/topic/5575-customtone-sorting-problems-since-new-line-6-homepage-online-2014-01-23/?p=37849

If you have followed the instructions in the Advanced Guide and it is still not working try recalibarating your expression pedal as per the instructions in the manual... instructions are also in the Knowledge Base...
-
Yes, you are using everything in the POD and then also running it through everything in the amp which can color your tone. Stick with the power amp in. Keep your switches the same I believe...
-
That's brilliant... I didn't realize M5 had Midi or that it was so easy to save configuration... honestly don't understand why M9 is so expensive either...

4 cable method allows you to use the amps preamp section as well as the power section. Your POD provides pre effects before the amps preamp and post effects between the amps pre and power sections. If you just want to use the amp for the power section then use the power amp input as you are from the left POD out (stay away from the amps guitar input if you have a power section in option). Now you will use the POD for all your effects and amp/cab modeling. You probably should not be switching output modes based on venue, those should only change based on your gear. Once you settle on a choice that sounds good for your gear, stick with it and use EQ for venue adjustments.

So I just read the manual for your amp and I want to make sure you are using the left 1/4 out (set at Line, not Amp) of the POD into the PWR AMP IN (2) furthest from the foot switch plug. Using that one disables all preamp functions, reverb and chorus so we can eliminate any potential interference or coloring. This amp has no Master Volume that I see so you will need to use the POD Master to control final volume. I don't know how you are setting up your patches, but try to keep the Master as high as possible and maybe lower your amp channel volumes instead. If all your internal volumes are maxed, you will naturally have the POD Master down and that may not be providing a good clean signal to the amp. It says you should be able to feed a 1 Volt RMS signal and I don't know what the POD output is rated at. I think I read somewhere (Meambobbo) that Combo/Stack Front is for open back cabs and Combo/Stack Power is for closed back cabs but choose Studio Direct for now. Set your input 1 to Guitar/Variax and input 2 to Mic. Start with just a Blackface Dbl Nrm full amp and no effects. Before adding any effects how does this sound? Does this still sound like junk through the headphones? Are they the same basically? Does it get better or worse with guitar volume/tone adjustments? Give this another shot and get back to us. What sticks out to me is your last paragraph where you state that it sounds like crap even through the headphones yet sounds great through the USB when recorded. I assume this is with the exact same patch with no system changes whatsoever. Kind of makes me wonder if there isn't a physical problem may be with the output DAC? I was going to suggest trying it through a different amp/cab but it the problem is also in the headphones I don't know that would help. Unless you have a defective unit there is a solution...

So much for people saying the pros don't use modelers, especially Line 6... I just saw Transatlantic in NYC and Ted Leonard from Spock's Beard was sitting in on rhythm guitar. What do you know, he was playing a sweet black JTV-59 into a POD HD500 direct to the PA. Sounded great including the few times he was doing acoustic parts! So I know Steve Howe uses Line 6 live. Who else have you seen using our favorite gear?

yeah, I used XLR fora long time but I finally got a DMX cable from Sweetwater and while I don't hear any difference it is certainly more robust and better quality...

How To Make Your Gain/ Distortion Cleaner &more Transparrent
radatats replied to michaelyoungband's topic in POD HD
I mostly run through my DT25 and try to maximize settings for the amp model corresponding to the tone I want to achieve rather than using a lot of pedals. I find I rarely use the distortion pedals but I often use compressors, tube, red, blue. I think most of us are used to using pedals because we usually only had one physical amp and had to use pedals for various tones we wanted. The POD gives us a wide range of amps to choose from so when I want to change tone I like to change amp rather than just add pedals . I realize that is not always the best solution for every situation but the amps are just so good... Especially through the DT... -
There really is no comparison... there is just so much you can do with the two of them linked and working together. And having only the one cable to connect is a breeze. Did you order a DMX cable or XLR cable? I'm sure your Mesa was awesome but you're gonna love the DT.

Listening to it I think it is a Pitch Glide set to one octave up and tied to the tone knob. No reason you couldn't do the same thing with an expression pedal...

One thing I never see anyone posting about is the ability to customize the power section configuration to your needs. There are so many variations it is mind boggling between the 4 topologies, Class A or AB and Pentode or Triode. The Class AB is the 25 watt setting and gives more headroom but the Class A setting is 10 watts and breaks up at a lower volume. Additionally switching to Triode drops the volume level another notch without really affecting tone negatively. I have been playing around with this a lot lately and now that they have freed up the POD master to work with the L6 link I can get some awesome tones at usable volume levels. Forget LVM, try picking your favorite pre model, switch to Class A and Triode and see for yourself. Play with the topologies too, they make a difference. Also experiment with the POD master and the DT master. I have come to find that the POD master should be kept no lower than 12 oclock and DT master adjusted for volume. If you turn the POD master down too much, my tone loses definition and punch. Just because the default configuration is set one way doesn't mean you have to keep it that way. I love this little amp and what it can do together with the POD...

Jtv 59 / Hd500x Acoustic Sound Combo
radatats replied to robertallen's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I had a hard time too but I finally came up with a good solution. The link below is to a thread with details. It was done for the DT but works great with other setups too. Unfortunately Sean's tones will be almost impossible to match. Just look at how they were recorded. Maybe if you had all that gear it would sound the same but this should get you close. http://line6.com/support/topic/5553-acoustic-solution-for-jtv-with-dt-amps/ -
How To Make Your Gain/ Distortion Cleaner &more Transparrent
radatats replied to michaelyoungband's topic in POD HD
no worries... the Tube Drive does in fact model an actual tube (12ax7) pedal. The below link has some great info and hints for use... http://www.kitrae.net/music/Music_mp3_Tube_Driver_Sound.html -
How To Make Your Gain/ Distortion Cleaner &more Transparrent
radatats replied to michaelyoungband's topic in POD HD
While your advice is good, it should be noted that the Screamer was not a tube pedal at all. It was an analogue distortion pedal with transistors and op amps. No tubes despite the name. -
Damn, almost like the need to click "View New Content" every 5-10 minutes... lol...
-
No. Then again, why would you want to? If you are using the POD HD500 with L6 link you are bypassing all the internal amp models in the DT and using the same models inside the POD. The only way to actually change or configure the internal amp models is by midi either using a third party editor or a direct midi command from a connected controller. And that will never change or save the position of the amp knobs or settings.

yep, using IE9 at work logged in to Customtone: clicking sort on any header does seem to sort, however, it also defaults to all tones meeting criteria even if you are only selecting certain gear specific tones. Additionally, only the first page is sorted. Follow on pages are not actually sorted amd clicking any header to resort takes you back to the default of all tones for your criteria for all gear. unusable...

logged in to Customtone, using Chrome Version 32.0.1700.107 m, Win7 Sorting works on all headers in the red bar. Expand works ok. Get tone works ok. Click on the individual tone name, straight to the home page.

I beleive he means selecting Combo/Stack Power Amp into a FRFR solution will sound harsh and that is my experience. My POD is set for Studio Direct but as soon as I turn on the DT connected with L6 link the POD automatically switches to Stack Power Amp. Still also connected to my PA speakers from the 1/4 outs, my tone sounds great right up until I power on the DT. As soon as the POD switches to Stack Power Amp, the sound from my PA speakers becomes thin and nasty harsh yet this same tone through the DT sounds great now! Changing cabs and mics really does just change the flavor of the tone, sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse. Changing mics also has an effect but as you noted, much milder. I have tried both with various cabs and with no cab because I actually like my cab by itself. There is nothing harsh about choosing no cab if you are playing through a real guitar cab.
-
no good. You can still bring up a profile with all of a user's tones but if you click on an individual tone it just takes you straight to the home page  logged in to Customtone, using Firefox 27.0, Win7 Sorting works on all headers in the red bar. Expand works ok. Get tone works ok. Click on the individual tone name, straight to the home page.

From Meambobbo's excellent guide: P. Output Modes For more on output modes, see the setup page. There's a lot of confusion over output modes, but they're really not that tricky. Most only affect what the cab block does. If you select "no cab", most of the output modes don't do anything. The basic rule of thumb is to select the output mode for how you have the Pod hooked up. Stack is for full or 1/2 stacks (or closed-back 2x12's). Combo is for open back combos. Power amp is for running the Pod into a guitar power amp or a guitar amp's an effects loop return. Front is for an amp's guitar input. Studio/Direct is for direct to PA/mixing board, headphones, or DAW (when you're not using IR's to simulate a cab). Output modes were designed so that you could dial in a patch using one output mode and hooked up to the appropriate real gear, then switch output modes for other gear and get the same tone. In reality, your tone will never be the same between different gear, despite changing output modes. Don't expect them to work this way, but they do offer slight compensations that may help get closer to that ballpark sooner. You should use Studio/Direct if you want to use the cab/mic simulation provided in the Pod. This would be useful if you are recording directly to a DAW (and not using IR's in that DAW), running direct to the PA/mixing board, or are using headphones. Other output modes use "live-voiced cabs". The mic model selected has no impact on the tone. The selected cab simply EQ's your tone mildly to slightly mimic the response of the cab, when run through a real guitar cab (or IR). This is no substitute for a mic'ed cab or IR. Without one of those, the tone will be very harsh. The difference between stack and combo modes is that combo has a bass boost. Since combo amps generally have less bass, the idea was that the bass response would be consistent between gear. Again, it won't be magically the same between gear, but it can get you close. The front output modes additionally include a crude global EQ designed to help neutralize any pre-amp coloration that will occur when plugging into the front input of an amp. A pre-amp does more than change the frequency response, so don't expect this output mode to truly neutralize a pre-amp. It's almost always best to run the Pod output into the effects loop return of a real amp. Note: These settings definitely work through L6 link and your POD will default to Combo or Stack Power amp with a DT which explains the minimal effect of changing the EQ since that is for the Front setting...

I've used most all of these at one time or another. Never liked Cubase; Samplitude and Studio ONe were good, Reaper too. Still, I found workflow to be the main issue for me. I loved Tracktion when it first came out but it died on the vine and version 4 was no big improvement. The new version 5, 64 bit is my new favorite. This loads faster than anything else I have and so far is stable as a rock. I love the way the work flow displays, left to right and so intuitive. Just drop your VST where you want it and go. Tracks can be audio or midi just like Reaper. Now the added rack support and the midi editing is much better, (in line with your audio). I haven't dropped the $60 yet but if I don't find any show stopping bugs in the demo I definitely will. PS. all my plugins are 64 bit so I don't even look at a DAW if it isn't fully 64 bit compliant. Thanks for updating the poll with new additions. If you want something listed, add it! Might start a new one for favorite plugins... :D

that is what allowed you to choose from 30 different amp models for your 8 saved configurations. It doesn't change any other things related to accessing those saved modesl. You still basically have a 2 channel amp with 4 variations for each channel.
