I don't really hear a gap in the sense that I notice any real silence between patches, but I can hear an abrupt change, yes. I don't know if there is a possibility of the time being optimized more or not. I know that they really decreased it quite a bit from the early beta firmware versions to the 1.0. Spillover blocks would be a nice addition. I don't really know what they're plans are in this regard, though.

External Expression pedal - doesn't seem to be recognized
phil_m replied to chromecity's topic in Helix
Try using it with a regular mono guitar cable (a TS cable) instead of the TRS cable it came with. -
250ms? When I measured mine in Reaper, it was maybe 100ms at most. It was fast enough that I couldn't really hear a gap, and I actually had a hard time isolating the gap. It might get a little higher if you're switching between two very complicated presets, but still shouldn't be that high.

It's not affecting all installations of Windows 10. I have it installed on my laptop, and the updater and Helix app both work fine. I always think that this aspect of these devices seems to be the most challenging to test. There's so many different systems out there with so many potential conflicts. I'm not sure why it's working on some and not others right now. I'm sure they'll get it ironed out. As far as Helix being rushed, it makes me smile. I think I first heard about over two years ago. The Expert Users were constantly asking, "when is coming out?". I'm sure that it wasn't rushed.

Seems to be running pretty slow, but it eventually loads. They might be doing some maintenance or something.

I assume you're talking about the Amp 1 and 2 relays? Are you asking how to set the switch controlling them to be momentary? You do that in the Command Center window.
-
Yes, they are. If you use only mono effects in a path, though, it effectively becomes mono, well, mono matching dual mono outputs. But if you wanted to have 4 independent stereo paths all with separate ins and outs, you could.

When you go to the volume block, do you see the values for the volume change when you move the pedal?

The hotter the signal going into your mixer, the higher your signal to noise ratio will be. Generally a good rule of thumb with plugging anything into mixer is that you want the strongest signal possible from the source, and you add gain only as needed. Since the Helix itself is acting as the mic preamp, I would be inclined to turn the gain all the way down on the Mackie, at least at first.

I think this falls under the heading of "if there was a way to do it, they would have done it." From what I understand, the reason why some models don't have the ability to be synced via tap tempo is the way they were modeled. Some models, probably the majority, are model algorithmically - that is Line 6 develops essentially a mathematical model that models the entire effect. The controls for these models follow a linear or other function-based path for how the values correspond to the knob position. So syncing a delay or modulation rate is just a matter of doing a simple conversion. Other models are component-based. Line 6 tears them apart and models the behavior of every single piece in the effect (the whole modeling the light bulb thing). So with these effects, their behavior can be very non-linear and the controls interactive. So perhaps the speed of the Opto Trem changes slightly depending where the depth knob is or what the incoming signal is like. I don't exactly know what it is that's preventing them, but I'm guessing it's something like that. DI talks about it a little here: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/line6-helix.1586637/page-491#post-20688101

You could split path 2 into paths 2A and 2B, move all your vocal stuff down to path 2B, and then have the output of Path 1 feed into Path 2A only. Move your reverb and delay down to path 2A. You'll still be able to maintain separation between your guitar and vocals this way. You actually could have them output as two independent stereo outputs if you wanted.

Have you tried using a return with it set to instrument level? The level from your acoustic should be sufficient enough. If you need more level, just put a Gain block in the chain and bump it up as needed. The Gain block is under the volume/pan category.

They aren't soundclips. One's a patch for the Helix, and the other is an IR file.
-
It's not really a bug. It's something I brought up during the beta period, and I still kind of think they might want to look at the behavior. But I've got to say that after using the unit for a few months, it has really become a non-issue. I think you get used to it after using it awhile.

If you're plugging straight into a power amp or active monitors (which is actually just another way of plugging straight into a power amp), line level is what you'd want. Technically, even if you're going straight into a mixer, you might be better of at line level and just bypassing the preamp strip. You're right, though, the HD500 XLR outs are always at mic level - they can't be switched. Over on the HD forum,a very common question was, "why are my active monitors so quiet?". So it's a nice addition to be able select between mic and line level.

There's a number of ways you can do it, but the short answer is yes. If you have two independent paths with the same input assigned to each, you could assign the amp channel volume for the amp block in each path to be controlled by the same footswitch, and set it so that when one is at zero, the other is at full volume (whatever you want that level to be) and vice versa. So that way you could easily toggle between two paths. If you wanted to toggle between two paths where you have a mono chain before effects, you could control the pan parameter of the split block with a footswitch or expression pedal. There are many ways to get from point A to B with the Helix.

Yep. I've used it to switch channels and reverb on and off on the Renegade.
-
Well an IR can use up to 35% or more of the available DSP in one of the processors, so if you have a path that's pretty full to begin with, you might not be able to squeeze it in there. If you have a bunch of stuff in the tone path 1, but nothing in 2, I would try moving what you can to path 2 before inserting an IR block.
-
Assuming you have nothing else between the amp and cab blocks, there would be no difference. Using a dual cab block just gives you a way to have stereo separation coming out of the amp without having to actually add another path.
-
Works very well imo. I've used it with my Egnater Renegade, and noise isn't an issue. I recorded a few clips last week. https://soundcloud.com/phil-miller-20/renegade-helix-4cm-1 https://soundcloud.com/phil-miller-20/renegade-helix-4cm-2

Well, let's just say that "Line 6 Monkey" isn't just the name of a piece of software... Who do you think creates all these presets and set all the defaults? The Line 6 Monkey! :P Seriously, though, I think they tried hard to set the default values on the amps to be something that's kind of good representation of what that amp is known for. But, you know, you can't please everyone, and everyone has a different idea of not only what an amp should sound like, but they like. I like your suggestions, though.
-
This is a known issue, and it should be taken care of in the next firmware update.
-
You can build loops from different presets. You just have to have the looper block in every preset you want to use.
-
The Helix has an internal power supply, so you should be OK using that convenience outlet on the PP2+. I forget what the max current draw on that is offhand. That's the only thing you'd have to check.

Yes, the Ideascale page requires a separate login. That site isn't actually hosted by Line 6 servers.
