I've got to say that from that video, I don't hear a huge improvement going from the HD500's cab simulation to the Torpedo. The biggest difference to me between the tones is that the Torpedo sounds a bit louder in the mix. It's certainly not anything that would make me want to spend an extra $500 or $1000. I'm not saying this as a knock against having the option to use third-party IRs or anything. I agree it would be nice to have. I just haven't heard anything that makes me think there's a vast difference.

Like I said above, they are, but it's not exactly plug and play. Really, if you want to open HD500 tones in the Bean, you need to download HD500 Edit, and open the 500 tones in there to make sure the effects loop block isn't being used. If it is, remove that from the tone, and then re-save it. After you've done that you'll have to change the extension to .hbe. That should work.

It's a pod hd desktop but I think it's the same as the pod hd 500. I'm not sure how you mean this... They do have the same processor, and the signal chain through the units is very similar. But they're different products. The desktop is also known as the Bean: The HD500 is a floor-based unit:

Yeah, you should be able to use tone created on the Bean for the HD500, but not necessarily vice versa. The HD500 has the effects loop, and the Bean doesn't, so if there are tones creates on the HD500 with the loop, you could run into issues.

Other than Custom Tone, I don't know. There may be a few sites that have patched available for download, but I always think that the PODs are much more useful if you learn how to dial in the tones you want on your own. One of the users here, Meambobbo, put a lot of work into a guide that can be found here: http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/

No, there's no conversion utility or anything like that. They're completely different modeling platforms. So if you have a tone on the Pocket POD you like, you'll have to try to replicate as best you can on the HD by building it from scratch.

Well, the more expensive Torpedo Live can do that. The Torpedo C.A.B. can't. It doesn't provide a load, so you'd have to get the signal from the amp to it some other way. The C.A.B. does have power amp modeling, so you can take a signal from an amp's effect send or preamp out and use that. But you can't really use your amp's power amp with C.A.B.

Jtv 59p Doesnt Power Up

Do you have a 1/4" cable plugged into the guitar? -
The Torpedo stuff can load third party IRs, and it officially advertises the ability to do so. But, it's also isn't really a full-blown modeler.

The direct out on the DT50 has cab and mic modeling applied by default, so using an IR cab may give you some weird sounding results. If you've installed the 2.0 firmware update, you can turn that off by sending the appropriate MIDI CC message to the DT50, though.

Really? To me the distortion in the clips you put up sounds very similar to the distortion in the Youtube clip hurghanico put up... And to be honest, the both sound similar to what happens if I drive the input of a Fender amp really hard with it cranked. The thing is, though, I often don't get to turn up a real amp that much. With the HD, it's very easy to crank the models more than you ever would in real life, so you run into these sorts of things pretty easy. All that being said, I still don't think the tone in your clips sounds bad. I kind of like it, to be honest. Now, if pristine clean is what you were going for, yeah, that's definitely not it. But for slightly broken up and chewy sounding, I liked it.

I agree with both these statements, and I do expect Line 6 will support the JTV for quite a while. How long replacement parts will be available, I don't know. It probably depends somewhat how many they end up selling. The thing is, though, the Variax isn't anything like a traditional guitar in many important ways. Sure, it's an electric guitar, and can function as such (the JTV as least), but the electronics will become obsolete. So in that respect the Variax is more like a keyboard than a guitar. I suspect the useful life of a JTV will be longer than that of keyboards, but I don't expect it to last a lifetime, necessarily.

When you connect the POD to the DT25, the PODs output mode changes to combo or stack poweramp, depending on whether or not you're using the DT25 combo or head. So this output mode won't work well for taking a direct signal from the POD. If you want a direct signal while using the POD with the DT25, the best thing to do is to use the DT25's XLR direct out.

Could start by putting this in the dedicated HD forum... :) I moved this here from the Lounge for you so more people will see it.

I don't see how it could work differently... When you're in preset mode, if you hit one of the 4 lower buttons, you're telling the device to switch to another preset. I suppose they could have it so it could do both, but I would think that would get a bit confusing.

Pretty much... There's an old adage in business that says it's better to under-promise and over-deliver rather than over-promise and under-deliver. It's hard to think of a case where that doesn't ring true. If you raise people's expectations only to leave them disappointed, it will leave a bad taste in their mouth. I think even the biggest companies can run into issues with releasing products, so it doesn't surprise me that guitar companies, which are in the grand scheme of things relatively small companies, can run into issues. There are whole slew of things that can delay projects. Personally, my observation right now is that the industry in general is still pretty volatile both on the manufacturing side and on the sales side. It seems to me that there's been quite a bit of movement in the way of personnel in a lot of these companies it looks like. That always makes it difficult.

Variax And Workbenchhd Won't Connect
phil_m replied to MWolfkiel's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Do you have a 1/4" cable plugged into the guitar and the volume knob turned up? Is your battery charged? -
Just listening out of the speaker I have attached to my computer (which admittedly, isn't great), I don't hear anything too objectionable. I hear it more with earbuds, but even then I don't find it completely objectionable. I do notice a slight sizzle or something, but I doubt it's anything most people would notice in a mix. But, yes, it probably is crossover distortion. It was discussed a lot years ago when the HD line was newer. With the deep editing parameters, you should be able to make it a bit more manageable for you.

You don't need the CD. You can get the latest version of POD Farm 2 here: http://line6.com/software/index.html -
So We're About A Week Out From The Firmware Anniversary Give Or Take...

When do you hear zipper noise? I control modulations quite a bit with the expression pedal and have never heard anything. I have heard of people hearing while using the expression pedal with HD Edit connected.
