  1. Cost and variety are 2 big factors as well. With the current quality of modeling, I can't see myself ever spending over $1000 for an amp. There must be others who think the same way and I'm sure it's affecting amp sales. Manufacturers will chase the money. For instance, the new Hughes & Kettner Triamp MKIII is amazing but it's priced at $4000. For that amount I could get a Kemper Profiler and an Axe FX to go with my HD500X.
  2. I'm assuming you mean .pdf reader. The HD Edit software won't need one but the manuals might. You can get it here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/ Be sure to uncheck the box before installing if you don't want McAfee Security Scan to be installed as well.
  3. That might work. If you haven't already, download the Vetta II Manual from: http://line6.com/support/manuals/vettaii The info is on page 3-10. The 1/4" outs are labeled Direct/Wide Outputs and you'd want to use the Left/Mono jack. I mostly use the Guitarport to get my guitar signal into Reaper or Cantabile 2.0 (free program). Then, in either of those programs, I'll load in free amp/effects/cab sims and I get tones that completely blow away Amplitube, Guitar Rig or Gearbox. For example, I'll load TubeDriver (from Nick Crow), the awesome Emissary amp (from Ignite Amps), NadIR (cab IR loader from Ignite Amps) and cabinet IR's from Catharsis. Sounds complex but it's actually really easy. I'll be buying a better computer interface soon; probably a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4. Keep me posted on your progress.
  4. It looks like you have a few options. The best option would be to get a computer interface that let's you send the signal from the XLR outputs of the Vetta II into your computer. You could also try going from the Vetta II 1/4" output into your guitar port. As a last resort, I'd try going from the Vetta II headphone jack to the microphone input on your Mac. BTW, although I own the newer 'Dream Rig' stuff, I also have a Vetta II and a Guitarport. I've never tried to use them together but I might have to give it a shot. I use the Guitarport quite often with amp sim programs or Reaper.
  5. That's kind of like asking "will automatic transmissions ever completely replace standards?" Technologically, for 99% of the people, they're there. While modeling isn't at 99%, it's really closing in fast. I believe we will get to the point that models can perfectly replicate analog equipment, but they will never completely replace it. Vintage and classic amps will still be highly prized and sought after.
  6. Okay, thanks for the explanation. It really peaked my interest since I own a '91 USA made Jackson Dinky XL.
  7. I'm curious, why pre-'91 Jacksons? Did something change that year?
  8. That's a smokin' deal. I paid $900 for mine and got a good deal at the time.
  9. My Vetta II is seeing a lot of use while my DT25 head is on it's way to Line 6 for warranty work. It sounds really good running the HD500X into the effects return as well.
  10. I edit patches all the time on the computer and then send them to the POD. I've never had to hit 'save' on the POD while using this technique and my patches have never disappeared.
  11. That would be great, pickups like the Seymour Duncan Nazgul, Sentient, Pegasus, Alpha and Omega would be really cool.
  12. Here's another advantage of the head/cab, although I hope it's one you never have to use. I'm having to send mine to a Line 6 service center and it's much easier to ship the head than the combo.
  13. That photo is a 69S, not a HSS model. Is that the actual one you bought and did you get it for the $748 deal?
  14. Okay. Here's what I bought. Bussmann MDL-3/8 I got them through ebay. Here's a link to a similar deal: http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-5-EA-MDL-3-8-MDL3-8-BUSS-BUSSMANN-FUSES-250V-/400860455131?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d552520db I bought the other fuse from Radio Shack P/N 270-1064
  15. Yep, looks like it's only the humbucker model (which is what I own). Still a nice deal though.
  16. Looks like Sweetwater is selling the JTV 69 for $748 this weekend. That's for a nomal guitar; no scratch and dent or demo stuff. Looks like a great deal. Anyone seen similar or any other great music deals this weekend.
  17. I believe the semi acoustic body cavity makes a big difference and is captured by the pickups. Otherwise, an acoustic with a pickup would just sound like an electric. As for the sustain thing, guitars with bolt on necks sustain the longest. You would think a neck through design would win but that's not the case. As expected, set necks don't fair well in this contest because the glue has a dampening effect on the vibration. I've seen this demonstrated on multiple youtube videos and I've been able to recreate the results with my own guitar collection. I don't, however, own a neck through.
  18. From what I've read you pretty much have to pull the chassis out of the cabinet to gain access and it's tight. Hopefully someone else will chime in as well.
  19. That price looks really good. 2 things I would consider are that the head/cab is easier to pack around and that tube changes, from what I've read, are much easier to accomplish on the head than the combo.
  20. Very nice. I would love to see a few video clips of the gig.
  21. Mine has worked great for the last 7 months since I installed the JJ tubes. I do have an issue with blowing both fuses, at the moment, along with a support ticket, but I don't suspect the tubes are the culprits at this time.
  22. I believe the tone comes entirely from the pickups and brand/gauge of strings and that wood is only a factor with acoustics and hollow or semi-hollow bodied guitars. I regularly play 11 different electric guitars through my HD500X / DT25 setup, as well as my Vetta II, and the tonal differences on any given patch are huge. This can even be demonstrated through Workbench by swapping pickups or directly on the HD500X by changing the impedance. One thing I love about the Variax is that, no matter which patch I call up, the guitar has a model that will sound great with it.
  23. Yep, those are them. Sound great.
  24. I'm not sure why I would want to 'ignore the religious song' but I thought it was great. Wow, over 10 million views! The tone sounds really similar to some of Bryan Adams tunes to me.
