So I got my DT25 Head back, from the Calabassa, CA service center, today. It was exactly 31 days from shipped to returned. I wish they would have been thoughtful enough to include an explanation of what they did to it. I can tell for sure that they replaced the matched pair of JJ's EL84 tubes with Electro Harmonix EL84H tubes (Made in Russia 14 03). They left the JJ ECC83S though. I guess I'll have to call them to see if they replaced anything else. I doubt that the tubes were solely responsible for blowing both fuses. Now to go plug it in and bask in the glorious sounds I've been missing for a month. UPDATE: I just called Line 6 and the tech told me that, along with the EL84H tubes, they replaced the Power Amp board and the Main Board (that the tubes plug into.

I've logged a couple of support tickets in the past and I thought I would be receiving an email response. When that didn't happen I started looking into the matter and discovered that I had to log into my account and view the support ticket. Sure enough, there was a response and they were waiting on me.

I've been searching for a solution but not having much luck. It looks like the switches might just push down on an actual switch underneatch. If that's the case they could probably be replaced with no soldering required.

What to check when it arrives?
DarrellM5 replied to Palico's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Since you got it from Sweetwater it's almost certain that it will have the latest firmware. Nice looking axe, enjoy!! -
My Vetta II does a really nice job of Double Tracking, which is a built in feature. It would be cool to successfully pull this off with the POD. One trick is to set a single delay somewhere between 20 -50 ms. Some people try to accomplish it with a chorus pedal as well and there are some effects pedals that have this feature; for example, the Rocktron Tsunami.

Variax guitar worth it?
DarrellM5 replied to idexo's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
What the Colonel said plus Sweetwater typically has 24 month same-as-cash financing which would work out to $33.33 a month. Right now they're running a 36 month same-as-cash promotion which would be $22.22 a month. Plus Sweetwater adds an extra years warranty. -

It should be pretty good since you bought it from Sweetwater. I've bought 2 from them and they arrived with perfect setups and we're almost in tune right out of the box. I always check: - signs of damage...paint, cracks (especially where the neck joins the body, bent hardware - loose knobs, tuners, pickups, etc... - sharp fret edges or uneven frets - Missing accessories or documentation - Test the electronics and the mag pickups in every setting - String buzz while playing every note on each string - Saddle groove spacing and depth of the cuts - Neck bow - String height - Intonation -
Nice. Definitely downloading those tones.

I agree with this statement for my Variax 500 but not for my JTV69. I don't feel that it has a shelf life since it has the mag pickups. Even if the computer fails in my Variax 500, and I can't repair it, I'd probably just add a Fishman Triple Play and keep going.

Variax 500, lost trussrod cover

I'd get a new cat as well. -
Without an effects loop on the amp, I think you'll have to use the method you mentioned "guitar>Pro x in>unbalanced L>amp head in". There isn't a way to bypass the preamp with this method so you'll need to set the amp knobs to get as clean and neutral of a sound as possible and work from there.

I agree the pricing is kind of steep, especially when you can buy Amplitube or Guitar Rig for $99 (on sale) or S-Gear for $129. I don't think it would attract more 1st time buyers if the model packs were free; the current list of models included with the HD500X is already overwhelming to a newbie. I'll be purchasing the full bundle as I play guitar and bass. If I didn't play bass I'd have to wait for reviews of the new models to make a decision. On the guitar side, I'm really looking forward to the 5150 but, unless it's unbelievably good, don't know if it would be worth the $50 price of the pack. I don't mind paying a reasonable price for new stuff but I would prefer an option to demo the models and purchase à la carte.

I also just play at home for fun and I'm very glad I bought the entire Dream Rig. -

Welcome to the forum! You're going to have a blast. It's probably a good idea to get the Variax first and then start adding the other components. I bought all 3 at once and had a hard time figuring out where to start the learning process. I would have been totally lost, and frustrated, if it weren't for the incredible group of people on this board. -
amsdenj, I enjoy your posts and I'd love to do some experimenting with your ideas. Are these patches on Custom Tone? I'm also taking a hard look at S-gear.
-
I'll let you know. They have my DT25 right now and it's got JJ's that were installed and biased by me.
-
Nice. I think it's a common practice in studios to put delay and reverb effects after the amp; not sure about a compressor though. It just goes to show that there are no hard rules when it comes to effects routing.

My original tubes (DT25) didn't make it 90 days. I replaced them with JJ's and it lasted for about 7 months with no problems. Then I turned it on one day and there was a humming sound for a few followed by the AC line fuse blowing. I replaced the AC line fuse and it worked for a few minutes and then the tube protection fuse blew. Visually, the tubes look fine. Line 6 has it right now and I'll be curious to see what their solution is and if it still has the JJ's inside when I get it back. I'll keep everyone posted.

I'm not sure that you can delete a patch; but I may be wrong. I just keep an empty patch that I can copy over others and named it blank. Was the patch you tried to load for the 500 or 500x? It might have had the wrong format.

I was so excited about the 5150 and JC120 models that I had all but forgotten about there was a bass pack coming as well. Now I'm really getting fired up!

By the time I purchased my JTV69 last year, the firmware was already to the point that I had different guitar models right from the start. So I never got to experience it with the identical firmware to my Variax 500.

I have the Variax 500 and the JTV69 and I believe the JTV69 sounds considerably better. The older Variax still sounds really good though.
