  1. I would either try to find a friend who has a midi interface or buy a M-Audio Midisport Uno from Amazon for $35: http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Midisport-Uno-MIDI-Interface/dp/B00007JRBM/ref=sr_1_2?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1403898979&sr=1-2&keywords=midi+usb Then download the Line 6 Monkey for free from their website and try to fix your amp. The midi interface is good to have in your gear anyhow.
  2. I found some old posts on the Line 6 and other forums where people were able to fix this by re-installing the firmware. For one person it took 8 tries but it looks like most of the time it worked on the first attempt.
  3. Nice. I saw them in the late 80's in San Antonio. Great concert. I'll have to see where they're playing.
  4. I bought mine from Sweetwater so the setup was almost spot-on to begin with. I try to set my saddle heights to give me 4/64" string height above the fretboard at the 12th fret.
  5. Some of the presets on mine came with the amps not toggled on. I had to click the button next to the amp to get any sound.
  6. I have a JTV69 ->HD500X ->DT25 as well as a Variax 500 & Vetta II. You may be able to achieve what you're after by using the HD500X as a stomp box going into the Vetta II. That way the HD500X could call up the guitar model you're after and send a Midi command to the Vetta II to change to a specific patch. I looked in the Vetta II manual and it seems possible.
  7. Ended up ordering JJ's tubes from Eurotubes. Put them in and biased them tonight. Problem solved. I installed an ECC83S Balanced tube and a matched EL84 pair. I adjusted the bias for the EL83s to 25.3mV & 25.8mV. Amp sounds great once again.
  8. I have a Variax 500 and Vetta II amp as well as a JTV69, HD500X and DT25 amp. The Variax 500 works great with the HD500X. I mix and match these guitars and amps all the time with great results. One of the reasons the wireless doesn't work with the VDI is that it's only one way communication and wouldn't allow the HD500X to send any signals to the guitar. ColonelForbin hit it right on the head in regards to the JTV guitars being 2 guitars in one. If, for some reason, the electronics were to die during a gig, you would just push in on the model selector knob and switch to the magnetic pickups. The mags sound great BTW.
  9. I tune the guitar while constantly picking the string with my normal playing attack. I also tune the G string about 10 to 15 cents flat to get the guitar as "in tune" as possible for the widest range of chords.
  10. For more of a humbucker, or metal sound, go with the Dimarzio HS-3. I'm running one in my strat and I really like it.
  11. Since it's under 90 days, I opened a support ticket. Probably would have been a lot less trouble to just change out all the tubes but I'll see what they have to say.
  12. Wow Colonel, that's one heck of a rig. It should take you about 20 years to explore all of the tonal possibilities of those toys. Looks like you had a great weekend. With all of those switches and pedals, you're feet are probably moving more than the drummer's.
  13. I've had my Dream Rig since the beginning of March. Tonight when I fired it up, once I flipped the standby switch up on the DT25 head, it made all kinds of popping, clicking and scratching noises. It sounded like one end of an instrument cable was plugged into it and the other end was being dragged around the room. I unplugged the L6 Link cable from it but that didn't make any difference. The racket eventually lessened to the point of just sounding like random patch switches were happening 4 or 5 times a minute. I tried turning it off and unplugging it for a few minutes. The problem returned but not as bad as at first. I looked through the back panel while powered up and the tubes look okay visually. They have a healthy red glow to them. Does this sound like one of the tubes is on the way out already? This amp hasn't been moved or disturbed since I bought it and I play at fairly low volumes. Kind of a bummer because I've never had a single issue with any of my Line 6 products in the 10 years I've been using them.
  14. Sweet tones and great chops!!! Thanks for posting. Have you by chance uploaded these to custom tone?
  15. I believe that the US versions are a little nicer. The problem is my Korean JTV-69 is close to perfect and, if I shop around for the proper deals, I could have all 3 Korean versions for the price of a US made Variax. Seeing that the electronics are the same, I couldn't justify paying more for a single US guitar than I did for my entire Dream Rig.
  16. Welcome and I'm glad you're enjoying your POD. I've been tweaking mine for months along with hanging out on this forum and I still consider myself a newbie. It is awesome though. I'm pretty sure that when the time comes to make your next decision, you'll be able to rule out the Amplifi quickly. The remaining choices aren't as easy. I have the DT25 and I love it but I still keep thinking about adding a Stagesource. I'm sure when all is said and done I'll end up with both.
  17. My Variax 500 does the same thing but it took 10 years to get to this point. I'm looking into replacing the jack now.
  18. Did you press it down firmly until it clicks to engage it?
  19. Yeah, I really like his stuff too. Plus his playing is incredible. His 'Dave's Main Tone' Van Halen Sound is really cool.
  20. That sucks man. I'd dump them too if I had your track record. My experience has been the opposite. I own a Variax 500, Vetta II, FBV Board, GuitarPort, DT25, HD500X and JTV-69 and I haven't had a single issue with any of them. I've owned the Variax 500, Vetta II rig for 10 years.
  21. A couple of my favorite, and most often used, tones are 'Favorite Mesa Tone' http://line6.com/customtone/tone/225293/ and 'Ola Fireballs' http://line6.com/customtone/tone/271428/ Radatat's acoustic tones are awesome as well. I've also been thinking about getting Glenn Dealune's tones.
  22. I had no idea that the tremolo springs sound was a desired feature. Some people even put tissue paper in the spring cavity to eliminate it completely.
  23. I see that one fits the Variax Bass and the 300, 600 and 700. Does anything fit the 500? My input jack is getting worn out (side to side play between the cable and the jack).
  24. Just curious; which part number are you ordering from fullcompass?
