  1. My opinion is the Editor will make it easier to edit Helix. There I said it. Thats my opinion and its just as valid as what you are about to counter with Hamm :P
  2. So I=P/E = 200W/120 VAC = 1.666 amps... So this Courtesy Aux AC outlet should work just fine if Helix only draws 60 watts (1/2 an amp) max @ 120 VAC...
  3. And they never will judging by decades of past practice, rightfully so.

Yer right Phil, and this rattles some people. The best of both worlds is a preamp/modeler that allows an output to a amp like say an SLA 2 and then to a guitar cab, and another pair of outs that will sound right into studio monitors or an FRFR setup.

    Screamer 808 - EQ

Good charts in that link for the TS- thanks
  6. Pick yer poison... :P Light weight or heavy and loud! lol... Im gonna use the Firehawk 1500 and a dolly....
  7. This is correct, as it was for many items and it follows what Ive been saying. Im guessing the AX8 ( and the Axe FX II) will receive updates for 3, maybe 4 years max. Then the AX-10 and the Line 6 Zelix AMP will arrive and the original Helix (like the Vetta) will at some point not get any more love software wise. In other words Don't expect updates forever on anything.
  8. The Standard, and then the Ultra were their "Flagship" models. Then they came out with the AXE FX II, the II XL, and finally the II XL+.

No Amp ( as in to amplify a passive guitar cab) as Zooey said... It does have Amp emulated tones but this still needs to amplified by a power amp, or powered FRFR or studio monitors.
  10. An easier way to use this setting is using your ears. Do what sounds best to you. :)
  11. They are probably the wrong format. Does Helix import .wav IR's?
  12. They, like every other company I know of at some point drops the software support and moves on to a bigger and better and newer thing. The last Standard and Ultra firmware update was May 9th, 2011. http://www.fractalaudio.com/legacy.php
  13. What is the pedal powers max current capacity on the courtesy outlet? Then you will know if Helix draws too much current for it or not.
  14. A bad or flakey usb cable can cause issues yes. Try a different cable and a different USB port of the mac. Or better yet, if you have something running on yer mac's USB port now, move it over to the usb port you tried to use for Helix( the one in question). If the current "thing" continues to run in its new port, its not the usb port on the mac you tried for Helix. make sense? Then try a new usb cable. Hope this made sense...

    Helix Gear

Best advice since there is so much to answer, Go to the Line 6 site, read about Helix. Goto Youtube and watch every video. In a week or so come back with (just my way- YMMV) specific single questions, one at a time. In this way you will be better prepared to understand. I will try and answer the 1st part. The amp can be anything from a combo to a full Marshall stack. Having send and return on the amps head allows for a "4 cable method" hookup. FRFR is also a good way and many have gone that direction. I will use for example a Line-6 Firehawk 1500 FRFR combo with my Helix, but there are other options just as valid like the Atomic CLR. I hope this helps you some. Helix is AWESOME, and I don't even have mine yet and I can still state this fact without fear of being even partly wrong.... :D
  16. I don't have my Helix yet- so Is there a way to switch IR's on the fly, and audition them in real time one after the other without having to back out of something 1st? Oh yea, and will the coming editor allow this?
  17. Fractal doesn't charge for updates, and adds amps and stuff as well on some of those updates. But The AX8 can't do dual amps (much less 4) at once can it? Even so Im thinking those futuristic paid updates will cost you a WHOLE LOT less than an AX8 will. As always YMMV... :D
  18. Musta missed that, and would like to read it. Who is "they" and do u have the link handy? Thanks... Edited: Phil stated "The editor isn't going to reveal anything that can't be done on the Helix itself." Sorry missed that...

    HELIX-DT Failure

    Very good info Col- thanks!
  20. A bad fluorescent ballast to a noisy brick on the desk, to a fridge in the kitchen, or a bad AC step-down transformer in the alley can cause noise, including poor or no grounding. Move it to the other side of the house if nothing else works, and see if the humm/noise changes.
  21. Since the editor isn't released yet Hamm, are you running a beta copy of the editor? If not, then how do you know about "not a single thing you can't do with the editor versus the front panel" yet? Someone spill the beans to you and not the rest of us? ;) :P
