  1. I too remember that each Save operation produced a new copy of the tone. That changed in a recent app update - forget exactly when. But I have not seen the symptom you describe. When I recall one of My Tones, change its name, edit and Save I get a new tone with the new name and the original tone remains. Can you reproduce this behaviour and provide the exact steps so that I can test it on my equipment?

Are you having trouble doing what you want to do, or are you just pointing out (again) that you don't like the documentation? We get it, and as I suggested earlier you are doing what you can (I hope) via Ideascale to get that improved. Meanwhile, the documentation is what it is. You don't like it. You've made that clear. Repeating it here endlessly is no longer productive. Are you having a technical issue that we can help you with?
  3. Not worth waiting. There won't be Linux drivers until Linux represents a market share that competes with Windows and Mac.
  4. Yes - right now the app functions only as a librarian. Soon it will be updated to include an editor.
  5. Yes, these are the first steps. You actually download the app installer. You run it to install all the components: the app, drivers, and the Line 6 Updater program. Line 6 Updater is the next generation of Monkey and replaces Monkey for products beginning with AMPLIFi, including Firehawk and now Helix.
  6. Let's remember to stay grounded here and not let unrealistic hopes get the better of us. Re-read post #2 in this thread. Of course, things are still good if by iPad you mean PC laptop or Mac equivalent, with a USB tether running the pending Helix editor. But that's not really what this thread is about. No harm in dreaming, but that's what it is for the forseeable future.
  7. Yes. I currently use different Setups to do that. Scenes would be simpler. We can only hope.
  8. It's an excellent choice. I run a Helix Rack through two L3t speakers and it's a beautiful thing. If you do decide to go with the Stagesource I suggest you look carefully at the L3t vs. L3m. For the extra $$ the side panel mixer is a great deal. For instance, for home practice or duets you could have a vocal and an acoustic guitar with your Helix with no extra mixer required.
  9. The A-D footswitches allow you to select among the four presets in the current bank. They don't permit you to identify presets in arbitrary banks. To do what you want you need to copy the original presets to the desired location in your User setlist. To copy, use the Save function Press the Save button once, choose the destination setlist/patch location, then pass Save again. So navigate to the Son of Plexi preset and copy it to User1 1A, then Swampy Delay to User1 1B, etc. After filling up User1 Bank 1, move to User1 Bank 2 and fill up 2A through 2D, etc. Of course, once you have copied them you can edit them in the User setlist without affecting the originals. Note also that you will need to set FS Mode to ABCD in the Setup Menu page 1.
  10. Whatever works is good! Alternate methods can't hurt.
  11. Yep. Install all other components during/with the Helix App installation. I don't think you need to do Step 3, though. Running the Updater in Step 4 will download and install the selected version of Helix firmware.
  12. Here are the update/reflash procedures: http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/guitars/variax-guitars-bass-workbench/variax-reflash-and-software-update-instructions-r309
  13. This may or may not be relevant but worth checking out. From the description it's hard to know exactly what a 'sizzling' sound is but it may be close to what some might also call a 'hissing' sound. I had a hissing sound in one of my L3t speakers not long ago and could not figure it out until I checked the side panel mixer settings. Turns out one of the channel input gain knobs had been turned to max, probably during transit when I was packing or unpacking it from its carrying case. I restored the knob to its zero setting and the hissing disappeared.
  14. I think you likely have a hardware failure somewhere. While not common, it happens. And in all electronic systems any faulty parts or workmanship tend to fail early in the life of the device. Based on when this happened I suspect that's what you're dealing with. First thing I would do is check whether you can just return it to where you bought it and get a replacement. If not, I would open a support ticket. http://line6.com/support/tickets/add.html

I can understand your frustration, but that's just the way the documentation is right now. You're doing all you can do to get things more to your liking (posting here and in Ideascale) and that's good. Meantime, until and unless things change, please continue to come here and ask any detailed questions that you might have.
  16. Check the parameters on your Y-split block in Path 1A. That's the only signal chain difference between the two amp/cab placements. That Y-split block can be used to send only part of the signal to Path B. In order to get an identical output/sound in the two situations i think you should set the Route To parameter for the Y-split block to send the full signal to Path B (B=100). That should send the full signal to Path B and none to continue on in Path A. Note that any signal that continues on in Path A reaches the output potentially affecting the final sound. It also represents a reduction in the signal sent to Path B, affecting the sound/tone of the Path B FX blocks.
  17. No. The current latest model (Variax Standard) uses completely different modelling than Variax 600. It also has additional firmware capabilities. They don't run the same firmware, they use different versions of Workbench, and the files are not compatible. Overall a different beast.
  18. No further questions. The last person I know of that captured a wild haggis was a leprechaun.
  19. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haggis I don't think you're actually Scottish.......
  20. That's what I do when recording, giving the instruments proper input trim but just enough output level to fill the room if the amps and drums don't do so already. Also the idea of sending just vocals and acoustic instruments to the monitors is a good idea. The electric guitar amps and drums typically are enough in themselves for the stage. In fact it can save the performers' ears to turn down the stage amps so that they just have to fill the stage, not the room. The PA can level them to fill the room.
  21. Bleeding may be the cause but perhaps from the mics not the instruments. Is it possible that your mics are picking up their own sound through the speakers/monitors? It may be the feedback suppression rather than trim tracking that's kicking in dynamically. Vocals tend to create feedback if the speakers are audible in the same room as the mics. The feedback suppression may be cutting the offending frequencies to the point that the vocals sound suppressed in the live mix. During playback (with mics muted) there is no feedback and hence no dynamic suppression. I admit this explanation seems a bit of a stretch because I expect you would have heard any feedback while you were auto-trimming the mics before levelling the instruments. However, it might be interesting to see what happens if you turn off the FBS on the mics.

Yes, that was very polite. :P So, not all procedures. Who gets to decide which ones? Presumably all the ones that you might someday want, and perhaps some for others too, whatever they might be..... Hopefully that was also polite...... ;)
  23.  I can already hear the mobile gang...... "Why did do they something so stupid as to make an editor that doesn't run on iOS and can't use Bluetooth?"

As Phil said, there is often more than one way to do things. And there are very many things you can do. I guess it's possible to provide step-by-step instructions and videos for all procedures covering all possible specific setups - but it's an exhaustive undertaking. I think the way the manual treats thing is more practical, providing overall methodologies as well as a few specific examples and also template presets for more complex setups.
