  1. In the Firehawk app (similar to AMPLIFi) the SAVE function is accessed by tapping an icon that looks like a square with an arrow pointing up out of it. In Firehawk it appears at the top right corner of the main edit screen. This icon is consistent, a kind of standard I guess, with other iOS apps for sending/saving items in general.
  2. I have manually copied a couple of dozen presets from HD500 to Helix. I had HD500 Edit running, without the HD500 connected. At first it was tedious to navigate through the Edit program and copy all the amp, FX and their settings. But like anything else it got a bit quicker with practice. But I did notice what was mentioned earlier - the sound was different even with all the same settings, and the routing options and extra DSP in Helix gave rise to other options. So I quickly learned to use the HD500 setup as a reference, but didn't bother to copy all settings identically since you need to teak them anyway. And Helix has a great new feature - you can copy and paste FX blocks not only within a preset but across presets. So you can easily set up one or two 'favourites' presets that contains all your favourite FX with their settings and quickly copy them to a new preset. My conclusion: it's not as onerous a procedure as you might think, and in the end Helix delivers superior sound IMHO.
  3. Awww..... c'mon.... Please? Pretty please? We'll play nice from now on... promise!
  4. That surprises me a bit. Perhaps you need more time and experimentation. What are you routing the outputs to? That needs to be considered so you can properly match amp/preamp/mic/cab selections to your external amp/monitors.
  5. You're welcome. Glad you found it helpful. Good luck with your garden shed!
  6. If you want just the sound of your physical amp your Firehawk preset should be configured to use No Amp, and should have the FX Loop present and turned on.
  7. You should open a support ticket to communicate directly with Line 6 tech support. http://line6.com/account/tickets/view
  8. The volume levels made by the big knob are not saved with the preset. The idea is that you use the level controls within the presets (e.g. Amp and channel volume) to balance all your preset levels. Then you use the big knob at the beginning of each session to set the overall Firehawk volume to match the room/band/venue. You set this just once at the start, then leave it for the duration of the session. You can save your editing changes by using the SAVE feature of the app. I think it appears as a square block with an upward arrow icon, consistent with iOS look and feel. You then choose to save the modified preset to My Tones or to the Hardware (the Firehawk device). There's lots of info in these forums about 4CM. I don't know what you mean by 'not much depth'. If you have things connected properly you'll have to be more specific about the issue.
  9. Here's a start for you..... http://line6.com/support/topic/17656-headphones-hd500x/
  10. This is the conversion utility I use. Thanks to jzab!! http://www.jzab.de/content/pod-hd There are several versions listed in the first portion of the web page. Download the version most appropriate for your OS. Run the utility. It's fairly straight forward to use though you have to pay attention to the type of conversion you want to make.
  11. I found this preset somehwere - can't remember where. Maybe it suits. After downloading the file, remove the suffix .txt and load the .h5e file into HD500 Edit. Crazy Diamond.h5e.txt
  12. I suggest you open a support ticket. You will need Line 6 support.
  13. I don't think Helix is supported on any mobile devices, including iOS. It is supported on Windows and Mac platforms. EDIT: Ooops - the above is incorrect. IOS recording is supported but you need to use the iPAD camera kit. Are you using that?
  14. If you're just looking for a boost, try the Gain FX block. You'll find it in the VOL models.
  15. The good/bad news for me is that I found the Stagesource L2/3t speaker's built-in Acoustic modeling in the side panel mixer was better than anything I could get through the POD HD500 modeling. So for small setups I tended to connect my acoustic guitar to my L3t Channel-1 input rather than the HD500. That brought the complication the OP describes into play, but I felt it was worth it for the superior sound. In larger setups, generally using an external mixer, the rest of the band/instruments meant that the acoustic quality of my one instrument wasn't so important and the simplicity of connecting to the HD500 won out. An interesting side note, though, is that I find Helix with its ability to import IRs is able to give me superior acoustic tones to those available through the Stagesource.
  16. I have usually have each type of tone as a separate preset. If I want a crunch tone I won't start with a clean tone - I will build it from a blank/new preset. I may use the same amp as my clean tone and just boost the drive, or I may use a different amp - depends on the level of 'crunch' I'm looking for. But I always start with the amp and get it as close as possible to the desired sound, then add FX as required.

    New Update

I think it's a matter of convenience in our instant-gratification world. When I was a lad there were things called dictionaries that were only available in printed form. In order to find the meaning of an unfamiliar word you had to have the skills to: - be able to spell the word; - be sufficiently literate to look it up alphabetically and find it on one of the several hundred pages in the book Not unlike the current editor, where in order to find a preset you have to: - know which of 8 setlists the preset is in, or (horrors!) systematically look through each of them, and - scroll through the list of preset names in the setlist, with the literacy skill to read them and recognize the one you want Outrageous!! Why can't we just ask Siri to find it for us?
  18. By 'optical XLR' do you mean the L6 LINK connection? If so, the speaker mode of the Stagesource is being reset each time you load a new HD500X preset because the current speaker mode is saved as part of the HD500X preset when you save it. The problem as I see it is that you want to use two different speaker modes at different times. When playing using the PRS electric signal you want the speaker in Electric Guitar mode, but when playing with the acoustic signal you want it in Reference/PA mode. You can edit each HD500X preset that you use with the PRS electric guitar signal and manually change the Stagesource speaker mode to Electric Guitar and then save the preset. Henceforth your Stagesource will remain in Electric Guitar mode as you change HD500X presets. However, with the PRS acoustic signal connected directly to the Stagesource input (with the signal bypassing the HD500X) you will need to manually change the Stagesource speaker mode to Reference/PA mode when you want to use the PRS acoustic signal.
  19. You can't assign the same FX to multiple FS, but you can do the reverse. To do what you want you will need to use a second instance of the delay to tie it with the phaser.
  20. Can't ever go wrong listening to your gut! I'm sure many people would agree that the extra $1000 is just not justified. Having said that, I think Helix is truly amazing, and its flexibility in routing, IRs, and recording features (dry signal, reamping) meet my needs much better in the studio.
  21. To update the Variax firmware, connect the Variax to the computer using the interface device, then run Line 6 Monkey. It will indicate whether any updates are available and guide you through the update process.
  22. The POD can only send to the computer the signal that is passing through it. Hence the sound from your external amp must be routed to/through the POD. That can be accomplished by using the POD's microphone input and placing a mic in front of the amp to capture its sound. Is that what you are doing? In your current setup, are you connecting your guitar to the POD or directly to the amp? If the POD, you will also need to be careful about creating feedback in the POD. Use a dual path preset with no mixing of the signals in the two paths.
  23. It will make a difference, but whether or not you notice it is something only you can answer. It could make a very noticeable difference if the lighter strings result in fret buzz. JTV guitars and significant fret buzz do not play well together. The extra string vibrations can cause unwelcome artifacts in the sound after DSP processing. Your best plan, I think, would be to try the lighter strings. If the result sounds good to you then stick with it. Otherwise consider a professional setup or revert back to the heavier strings.
  24. Yes, and yes. Your description matches what I would do. It sounds like you have one Stagesource speaker, not two, so stereo is not a consideration. In that case you could use only the L XLR cable from the Firehawk to the speaker. It will sum your signal to mono.
  25. Have you tried updating using a regular computer (not mobile device)? Connect Firehawk to the computer via usb and run the Line 6 Updater program. It's a much faster and more reliable update method then the mobile app and bluetooth.
