  1. Another one who ditched amps some years back, totally Helix floor now. Wouldn't go back on a bet - portability, consistency, flexibility - there's simply no way to compare.
  2. Having both a Std and a JTV I'd say this is pretty accurate - particularly the switch placement on the Std. I had a Strat neck put on my JTV, turned it into a go=to for me. The Std neck was fine out of the box. I will say - I'm now looking at letting one of them go, and it will probably be the JTV. With its little quirks and such, the Std is just more fun for me - lighter, a bit more alive, more rock 'n roll feeling. But either one is a decent instrument, hard to go wrong...

    Power Cab 112

Were I starting from scratch, buying Helix all over, I'd give these serious thought - flexible, and a nice look for the traditionalists. But I have my needs met with what I've already got (and may at this time be retired from live), so not for me. But I hope they get some love....
  4. This has been a recent topic over on TGP - don't think there's any good way around it, as noted above if you make sudden changes to gain/vol levels an artifact is likely. Hey, I've had amps that pop on channel changes, so this is not that odd. Only thing I can think of is having a user-definable (milliseconds) lag on parameter changes - 20 to 30 mils would probably mitigate the problem. But I'm all ears - if anyone comes across a solution, I'd love to hear it....
  5. 2 Alto TS110's in floor monitor position, set to 12 o'clock. Helix 1/4" to them, big volume at 12 to start, with big volume knob only affecting the 1/4". Consistent level to board. I have control over my stage level, sound guy has the FOH.
  6. Come out of the speaker out of an amp into Helix?? Yeah - not a good idea, don't do it.
  7. I assume whatever the machine tells it to be - vote early, vote often...
  8. Well, up until I got the G50 (sits on the upper tier of my pedalboard) - every wireless I've ever run I made the connection from receiver to input with a standard length cable. Just belt-and-suspenders, if something glitched with the transmitter I was just a quick swap away from being back in the game. After the first few months of hard gigging with the 50 I acknowledged it was pretty much bullet proof and made a custom short cable - hasn't failed me yet...
  9. Ah darn it - now I'm gonna have to go rebuy all the stuff I accumlated over 45 years of playing/touring/studio, and let go of when I got Helix. And here I thought that I had great sounds, ridiculous portabilty, extreme flexibility all in one little package. Who knew...? :) :) :)
  10. Pretty much sums it up - saved me a bunch o'typing. Simply put, the best damn money I've ever spent in the realm of guitar stuff. And with certain L6 comments over on TGP it looks like the HX reverbs should be out sometime in the next 60 days, so even the Strymon users may be able to put another bit of gear up for sale...
  11. Never bothered with the original editor - now I've got my laptop on a music stand next to my rig, and it's become the only was I edit. Yeah, some little issues - but overall a vast improvement on the original.
  12. Don't know about the article, but going to the GP site gave me one holiday gift - the original lineup of the Dixie Dregs is touring!! I got mine... btw - can't the split points (Path A to B, etc) be frequency dependant?
  13. Don't be sorry - when yer right, yer right. My bad
  14. 1. Which pedals should I keep? Had to go there, huh? Not gonna be any opinions on this one... :) So - in my opinion: - TC Electronic Polytune 2 Noir I would - it's a nice little pedal and Helix doesn't have it's equivalent. - Boss NS-2 Noise Surpressor Nah - plenty of gates in Helix, hell you can stack'em as needed - TC Electronic MojoMojo Overdrive - TC Electronic Dark Matter Distortion Don't know these well enough to judge on their merits - but again, Helix has a slew of very well modeled OD's/Dist's. And keep in mind that by virtue of controller assigns & snapshots you can often take a single amp from clean to effin' insane just by assignment switching. (Can do the same with the drives/od's as well) - Tone City Comp Engine Compressor Not unless this does a trick of some sort, plenty of quality comp choices in Helix - Joyo JF-316 Future Chorus Ironman Mini Again - plenty of mod choices in Helix, so unless this does some amazing thing.... - Tone City Tape Machine Delay - Boss GE-7 7 Band Graphic Equalizer Both of these food groups are more than generously covered in Helix Really the only two reasons I can think of to go outboard with any of the Helixes are 1) a specific pedal does something that Helix doesn't, or does it better. Examples - I use an EHX POG2 for poly octaving, and several of their "9" boxes for organ/synth/string sounds, and a lot of folks are hanging onto their Strymon reverbs. And 2) to save processing power, which realistically is rarely an issue. Also the LT only has the one loop, so your flexibility is a bit constrained. Welcome to it! Yer gonna love this thing.... B)
  15. Welcome to it - you DO have a bit of a curve ahead of you. You'll get it sorted, have some patience... As noted above - if you're going to use an actual power amp & speaker cab you won't need (or probably want) to have the Helix cabs as part of a patch. Easily done, just choose "Amp Only" or even "Preamp" versions of the various models - which is better is a matter of taste, try both and see. But plenty of folks doing it that way, you won't be alone.
  16. Yah - my acoustic patches are comp>eq>delay/verb and that's about it. Nylon or steel string, I get good results. Start simple and consistent, go from there.
  17. Now Phil, I've told you a hundred million billion times - don't exaggerate! But yeah, he DID want to minimize floor space, didn't he? Naw, it'll be fine - it just sends standard MIDI data which is pretty bread and butter once you know what you're doing. The chip mods have more to do with customizing setups to specific bits o'gear, basically establishing "templates" for certain gadgets out there. Helix reads standard MIDI PC's and CC's. But Phil's right - the FCB IS a big girl....

  19. Thanks to both you guys - way to dig down, and interesting results. appreciate the effort...
  20. Simple - the "other side" hasn't made a blanket statement of asserted fact. You made a declarative - "most everybody". That would imply some sort of survey, or study that has been performed. For all I know such an analysis exists, and you are privy to it - my request was simply that you share that information. You have an opinion, and are entitled to that - but that's not how you couched your statement. So yes - I'm REALLY interested in the factual basis for your statement. "Who (I'm) trying to side up to..."? Huh? S'pose I better check my PayPal account - must be tons of donations coming in from that "other side". Good - holidays are coming up. And I'm not remotely "slick" - just analytical and rational - and very clear in my speech. When I can prove something as fact, I do so - otherwise I acknowledge my bias.
  21. The Alto's - can't go wrong.
  22. Said "routine" apparently being invented just the other night.
