  1. Dunno. I don't believe in violence against animals
  2. I think ML's suggestion above is pretty legit. Contact whoever your GC rep is (they pretty much ALL suck...you'll find out) and get the agreement in writing via email that they will fulfill the promotion via rain check after the unit ships. GC and MF are the absolute WORST w/respect to customer service. They talk a great line when you have them on the phone, but you have to get it in writing and make sure you have their phone extensions. I know it sounds piddly, but I've journeyed through the seventh circle of Hell dealing with these guys on every purchase I've ever made save one (in stock and ready to ship) Paul.
  3. It has taken me months, but I finally caught the little f-ers exploiting this feature. It explains so many changes. <_<
  4. Just call ME direct. I've worked with them and they custom built two pedals for my Helix. It's two guys (Paul and James) and their staff. They're here in my town and Paul is great to work with. Cut the middle man out, I'm sure they'll honor whatever deal you're chasing.
  5. Is it a ground loop? If so, I can tell you that I run everything through a Furman power conditioner except for my amps (ran out of outlets on the Furman). The result was an intolerable ground loop off my right channel. I bought a Ebtech Hum Eliminator and it has solved the problem across the board. Highly recommended.
  6. Yep. I run everything through my little Roland mixer and then set levels to cut through with a volume control at the last point before output. It's a pain in the @$$, but better than some algorithmic plug in that will level everything off the top end.
  7. My guess would be that the unit has some type of overload protection like a fusible linkage. Computers do the same thing when they overheat or have a power surge. It's in place on computers in order to allow onboard electricity to dissipate prior to attempting to reboot. Buy a Furman power conditioner. They're all of $120 and mine has saved my a$$ more than once. Good luck!
  8. It's not that hard to get Big Al's tone. Yep. Whatever FX you dial up, it's going to come down to the fact that Alex used different guitars for different songs, different tone and pickup switches, etc. I saw an AWESOME Rush Cover project on Friday Last at Bobby Weir's club in Mill Valley (Sweetwater) called Fred Barchetta. The guitarist, who is the first guitarist I've seen who can cover Rush better than me, used one setting throughout the entire set. Heavy on the chorus from Al's insecure days in the 90's. Despite this single setting, the guy absolutely NAILED it. It comes down to fingers and familiarity. Once you get that, the rest is tinkering.
  9. If you have both external EP's you can set the parameters to 'mix' and get some really cool fades happening with it. That has become an integral part of a couple of patches I'm building.
  10. I do bypass certain delays and the one reverb I have in these chains. I will try activating all of them, keeping the trails on, and setting the mix values. I'll report back with my results. Thanks.
  11. That seems sort of like killing the entire reason for snapshots. I do have trails set to the 'on' position on every scene because that's pretty damned important. But this brings up an interesting notion, probably academic right now: Are the artifacts from the snapshot I'm exiting, or the snapshot I'm entering?
  12. Hi everybody. I hope all enjoyed some combination of their holidays, their time off work, and/or burying 2016. I've built a preset-per-song bank all based on the same FX chain with minor tweaks between the presets. All three are loaded with various snapshots. On most of the snapshots I have the pitch wham set to mix on EP 2 for a feedback cheat and on any given snapshot I have a chorus modulator with various parameter tweaks either active or bypassed. When I switch between snapshots which (e.g.) have the chorus bypassed and one that doesn't, I get a harsh chorus sound at the moment I switch. Same thing only with a harsh pitch sound with the pitch wham. The pitch mix is the only parameter assigned to an expression pedal, and the default heel is set to 0. Chorus is just either active or inactive and is not assigned to an EP. What gives? Any ideas?
  13. What gets me is how wired I am after I realize that I stayed downstairs huffing helix in to the wee hours. I can't sleep for at least an hour after geeking out on this thing.
  14. My first instinct is that your headphone tip is still bridging a connection in the jack or that when you removed it the unit was on and you shorted out the jack.
  15. BTO, April Wine, Steppenwolf, Max Webster, Cowboy Junkies....
  16. Sore fingers are some of the most gratifying pain one can experience.
  17. I've bought a few of his patches and he's quite good at thinking outside the box in terms of DSP consumption. You also have to give him props on his entrepreneurial spirit.

    WOW!

I integrated my Helix with my HD500. I get three processors and reasonably intuitive MIDI control. HD500 is in the rear with its counterparts and Helix is the control central for the whole rig.
  19. About three or so months back I had to send my Helix in for servicing (wonky scribble strips). During the down time I switched back to nylon string and ended up buying a beautiful new Cordoba flamenco. I happily wood-shedded on it while awaiting the return of my Helix. It came back in a timely enough fashion (thanks guys!). I placed it back in my rig and promptly forgot about it. I stayed on the nylons and then, perhaps two weeks back, I busted it out. I downloaded the new firmware and editor. Well played, Line 6. So far I've only built one Preset with Snapshots, and that has been on purpose. I've got a decent Satch build going on where I have six snapshots I'm tweaking to cover his earlier stuff with my JEM555. It's been a long time since I've used that guitar and I've fallen back in love with it. Helix Snapshots are an excellent form of Couples Counseling between a player and a neglected instrument. Thanks again, guys.
  20. Okay...two minutes in and this thing is exactly what I was hoping for. I'm sure I will be cussing it a blue streak in a couple of days, but that's part of the learning curve. Thank you Phil for the assist and thank you L6 for the software!
  21. Dagnabbit...Now I really feel stupid. I thought that FW 1.10 covered all of my 1.10's. That did it. As always, thank you Phil.
  22. Okay....apparently I screwed the pooch. I've had a couple of "No Device Connected" messages. I rebuilt the Factory pre-sets, reimported my stuff. The librarian still looks exactly the same. When I click on a preset on the librarian no sliders show up. Am I missing something ridiculously obvious here? OS: W10 FW 1.10 Helix Updater: 1.08
  23. Nononono. NO! It's a conspiracy. How can you NOT see it? Clearly the illuminati and Trilateral Concern have conspired with Yamaha and other large corporations to manipulate time. Don't believe me? Anybody notice they snuck in an extra day at the end of last month? Need I say more?
  24. Next week is the end of the month. Coincidence? You decide.... ;)
