  1. See if you can exchange them for mediums. Sales people in retail stores don't always have tech background. I tend to seek out those that do when I deal with retail.
  2. Either a short on the control board, loose retainer nuts under the knobs resulting in intermittent chassis ground, or a failing control board to main board cable. Take it to a Line 6 authorized service center to have that checked. https://line6.com/find/service_center/
  3. No. The gas to vacuum ratio won't be right. I'll need to compare data sheet in the morning. Shuguang might be,.... might be a substitute, but I need to confirm the data sheet curves first. Panic buying is the worst. Check with Full Compass, I'll have to dig out the Line 6 part number in the morning.
  4. An older product like that, solder joints will be oxidizing and intermittent contacts will occur. Needs to be taken to a Line 6 authorized service center. https://line6.com/find/service_center/
  5. Yes, the same piezos. Yes, the back-up of cargo ships is starting to get better. Now it's about catching up with it all.
  6. Mini bar good. DO NOT use those other two. They are NOT Line 6 supplies. Will it damage the guitar,... maybe, to some diodes or transistors on the main board. They are mainly unreliable over time. DO NOT use it. 229 Kronen is a lot for that AC supply, and it's not even a real Line 6 supply. DO NOT use it.
  7. Log a Support ticket in your account. That will have to be serviced.
  8. This area is for earlier Variax, not JTV's. Updates from the Line 6 site are Flash updates or program, but no "new sounds". Workbench HD applications is for creating and loading customizing patches and creating new sounds from that.
  9. -No portability of Models between old and current Variax. -May have a 1st generation bridge, so be certain there is a tremolo bar with it, as there are no more replacements. Gave the last one to Sinbad. Current bridge is 3rd generation, a change in how the piezo cable is routed to the main board. -Current fret end dressing spec was implemented in 2012. -Firmware updated,... after v2.00 it became HD series of product compatible, so it communicates more smoothly with HD products. -Main board version was updated for hardware in 2012. Have a JTV-69 from 2010 myself, and it's been just fine, no problems. Keep it maintained and Firmware up to date, it's great.
  10. Intonation or string nut, and being in 12-string mode just brings out more. I use barred harmonics at frets 12, 7 and 5, in12-string mode to check for frequency artifacts like that when I service Variax guitars here. It brings out things like that.
  11. Capo solving it,... that would point to a string nut slot starting to get worn, which is possible, as you guitar is a second hand guitar with a built date of 2017.
  12. 1) Is the Alt Tune engaged? If so, it may be 'dual tone effect', where you hear the sound from the strings in standard tuning, while hearing the Alt Tune sound from the amp. Using headphones or turning up the amp minimizes the effect. 2) Do you have the Shuriken bundle loaded? If so, select User III, toggle-1, and tell me which string is sounding. 3) The intonation may need to be checked.
  13. A 700 should play thru a 500X, but connecting to Monkey and Workbench won't work, so it all has to be done thru the interface device. Old Workbench will not work with Windows 10. The highest it can go is Windows 7 or 8. Both Apple and Microsoft no longer support 32-bit systems, it's all 64-bit now.
  14. " Tobacco Sunburst JTV-69 Variax " --- We actually call that the 3-Tone Sunburst, the Tobacco would be the JTV-59. Not a big deal, but someone might confused by that.
  15. They are not totally as compatible as they advertise. Seen those ads, have had issues in the past when they show up on my repair bench.
  16. Cool. Don't want to read anybodies obituary about how they got zapped. Been a tech 50 years, I still get a zapping every now and then working on a tube amp.
  17. 12AX7EH would be better. Having a schematic is a big no-no. Our legal consul is big on protecting our intellectual property. best if you got rid of it. As for brands of filter caps, don't know off-hand. 14 year old product, not much info outside of that. And there would be liability issues with someone whose tech skills we can't vouch for, especially regarding tube amps with high voltages. Best to leave that to an authorized service center. Shock hazard is too high. It really hurts when you get zapped.
  18. Yes, and those NYXL's are good too. JTV's,... I service them and I own some, and use factory string sets.
  19. Wish there was more I could do about it. This whole CoVid logistics glitch makes my job of service and repair of Line 6 products a challenge for me too. Staring to see a trickle of relief,... but only a trickle, for now. Pearl in a pig's ear,... been yonks since I heard that one. Very good, very clever. (thumbs up emoji) My version of "wishes" would be,... "If wishes were horses, I'd have a stable full of unicorns". But at this point, I'd be fine with just a Shetland pony. Fortunately, the only parts we get from Russia are vacuum tubes (valves), so any sanctions there won't be bad just yet. Product is starting,... starting to show up at our distribution hub and starting to trickle out to where it needs to go. Hang in there.
  20. Not so much a problem with 9's, just not as full a sound as 10's or 11's. But then, there are those who like that, sounds fine, maybe sounds a smidge thin.
  21. CoVid related shipping back ups. It is getting better. It will take some time to catch up to all of the back orders to catch up. Having a floor effects unit with a VDI connection is helpful,... if you have a VDI cable.
