Lost Charger for Battery Cradle
psarkissian replied to wcmexbm's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Another Line 6 supply. Contact Full Compass or log a Support Ticket. Don't use a substitute, seen nothing but problems with those. -
MIDI Time Out errors? iMac? Pre OS X? That would be a problem for the Helix. - iMac with OS9 may be too old for the Helix. Check the Downloads page for OS compatibility. - Make certain there are no USB hubs connect while attempting updates. - You may not be using MIDI, but the MIDI Time Out label is general data time out error. You may need to use the interface kit for this one, as it is not OS dependent.

Variaxes are around 13-1/2 to 13-3/4 neck radius. Standard is based on the Pacifica, but with a smaller fast neck compare to other Variaxes.
-
Now it's starting to sound like a failed piezo. Make certain your product is registered in your account, then log a Support ticket, and they will go over the options.

" but it's strange that the pops don't necessarily occur during the loudest note in a given phrase. "--- loudest note,... transient amplitude distortion from either gain or magnetic interaction from a mis-adjusted pick-up while in model mode. String height adjusted too close to a pick-up can distort the signal. That can also be part of what's going on there.

Yes. The saddles serve as a chassis ground for the piezoss, if it get gunked up it can result in attenuations and intermittencies.
-
" Is there any known software problem in this way? "--- No. Take a cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol, a couple drops onto the piezo. Let work in, then blow it out with some canned air. See if that clears it up. If that doesn't fix it, then it will need to be checked out at a Line 6 authorized service center.

Yes, 13-3/4. Don't use that spec from that other link anyway.

Pitch tracking problems with the piezos can start to occur if physically tuning off standard by a whole step and a half. On a blot-on neck, it's not a good idea to go higher than 11's. Changing string gauges,... will have to get the set-up checked a couple days after the tension sets in to check to see if any adjustments are needed. If detuning is desired, best to do it through Workbench HD, puts less stress on the mechanicals.

DannyMcO,.... " Looks like one of my two questions is answered in this Yamaha owner's manual "--- That string action spec in that link is for a guitar with a different neck radius. Don't use that spec.

crusinon2,... " ... I get that you have to toe the company line. "--- It's not towing the company line, it was drowning in a sea of poorly set-up guitars by people who said they knew what they were doing,... and didn't. If you ask some here, they'll tell you I don't tow the line. Yeah, and GC setting up a guitar older than the tech, I get that. Some around here though are pretty competent. There's the service center page with the guitar sub-heading for those that service our guitars. And if they need to consult me, they have channel access for that.

spider iv 75 amp, makes a POP sound and stops working
psarkissian replied to nixyc's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
Amp chip. But it can also be a glitch on the program board. Either way, it's not something to fix yourself. There are no off-the-shelf parts to be had. It needs to be service by a Line 6 authorized tech who has access. -
Not so much that's it's proprietary, (though it sort is at this point, for the most part). It's that when we did publish it, but too many said they knew what they were doing and didn't, they fouled it up, then sent it back to me to fix their mistakes. So we now it's simply,... take it to a Line 6 authorized guitar service center and have it adjusted there. " But honestly... suppose the "factory specs" don't feel right to you? Action too high, too low... "--- another reason to leave it to a Line 6 authorized guitar service center. They can start from the spec settings, then dial it in for you to your liking from there. Thanks cruisinon2. Even though I do set-ups on repairs for guitars destined for other climate regions, as good as I am at that, I still recommend using a Line 6 authorized guitar service center in your area and climate region for that.

JTV-69 Bridge Shifted?
psarkissian replied to jamiek03's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
@amsdenj,... a) Yes, some margin of play for adjustment purposes. Yes, being for the saddle height adjustment. The photos above though, are something altogether different in this particular case. b) Useful where the neck-to-body contact is not wood-to-wood, more wood-to-paint. Tight wood-to-wood contact makes for good sustain. Where resonance gets to be too much, different woods, as in three wood necks are sometimes used to mediate and level out resonances. It's a similar thing with speaker cabinets. Tannoy had a DMT series (DMT-8, -10, -12) of speaker with dual concentric drivers for good phase coherency. To moderate resonance point, they used what they called Differential Materials Technology (hence the DMT). Similar resonance principles apply when using wood in the world of acoustics. -
Okay,... use the CAT5e version then.

JTV-69 Bridge Shifted?
psarkissian replied to jamiek03's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
CS told you what I told them, which is what I've said here. They know their stuff, and I'm across the hall from them, if I'm needed. -
JTV-69 Bridge Shifted?
psarkissian replied to jamiek03's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Bridge isn't capable of shifting, it's position is set by the bridge posts. Neck alignment issue, it's a set-up thing. BTW,... not a canned response, he consulted me first. I see this all the time with bolt-on neck guitars like Fenders, Jackson and yes, even Line 6 guitars with bolt-on necks. Had one on my bench just last week, and another two weeks before that. Guitars go out of adjustment with use over time, these are no exception. And your guitar is a 2012 build with no service history, so it's been a while. Time for its 50,000 mile check-up. That's straight from me, the guitar tech. -
Tuning has to be spot on, intonation has to be spot on, and the set-up has to be spot on,... including the distance between the pick-up and the strings. Warbling is a result of the pick-up height adjustment. Alt Tune brings out the pitch difference, and also brings out the warbling more. Also be aware of "dual tone effect", where one hears both the sound from the guitar (standard tune), while hearing the amplified sound in Alt Tune,... which can also contribute to a warbling effect. And palm muting not applied evenly, allowing un-muted strings to ring, can contribute as well.

The CAT5e, it's the correct frequency data rate for what you are using it for. Preferable to use the Line 6 VDI cable for VDI. Don't know the track record of this other one. The VDI for VDI can be purchased from Full Compass. MADI and Dante (AES67) is for higher data rate frequencies for other things. Don't use that one.
