  1. Very obvious answer is to Google for Lincoln Brewster's HD500 patches. They're on his Facebook page I think...don't have the link handy.
  2. I do exactly this. Some may find it amusing :) but I'm pretty visual so just having a visual reminder helps when I'm trying to remember other more important things. I just used yellow electrical tape with a black sharpie.
  3. Yeah I guess that's true unless you mod your CryBaby...many of us do for that reason. The mod is simple and about $10 for the DPDT switch. To my ears, nothing compares to the tone.
  4. You can use your CryBaby in front of you HD500: guitar --> CryBaby --> HD500, just plug it into the Guitar In jack, not exp 2. This works great--I prefer my trusty/dusty old CryBaby too. Exp 2 is used for a standard expression pedal (like Mission Engineering, Line6 or even NosePedal.com) to control just about any parameter within a patch.
  5. I run a pedalboard in front of my HD500x. Signal chain: HD500x<-DOD Chorus<-Nova Delay<-Rat<-Rook<-FullDrive 2<-CryBaby<-Polytune<-T1M Buffer<-guitar. Why? Well I already had the pedalboard, and I find this offers me a lot of flexibility. I can create a patch and use all HD500x effects, or just an amp model with my other effects, or a combination. Best of both worlds to me.
  6. ...or...Setup a dual amp patch, with both sides having the same amp/cab, and put a short (20-40ms) digital delay 100% wet on one side only, before the amp. 100% wet will result in only the delayed sound going thru. Pan each side a little bit left and right to taste.
  7. Hi Peter. First off, THANK YOU for posting this. I've not heard of this group before and, yeah, that is quite a great sound he gets. To me, it sounds like he's kind of U2-ish, using an AC30, or something similar, maybe with a Tube Screamer or a better yet Tube Driver in front of it, also probably some dotted eight note delay. Try creating a patch (or maybe download one that is for U2), I'd put the gain/drive all the way up for starters, and add a Tube Driver overdrive in front. If you can find interviews or something with the guitarist telling what he used back then (I see more recent stuff where he's using Knagg's guitars and Ulbrick amps), sometimes that provides some clues. See what you can come up with and post it back...
  8. Try the Option (aka Alt) key instead of the control key on the Mac.
  9. I made this move in the last few months X3 Live --> HD500X. Some advice: Check the models gallery on the HD500X http://line6.com/data/6/0a06434c087052430f5d6523b/application/pdf/POD%20HD%20Series%20Model%20Gallery%20-%20English%20(%20Rev%20E%20).pdf You would think the HD500X would have all the models and then some from the X3L, but it doesn't. So just check and see if there is something you just can't live without that isn't here (most notable missing amp is 5150). I think the effects are better and expanded (I never used any effects on the X3L). To me, the HD has better sound, but it does take some time to get used to and get back up and running. There is a lot of good info here on the forum.
  10. Thanks for sharing this Ed. I'm the "bass player of last resort" and at 9pm on Saturday I found out that I was needed to play bass on Sunday at 9am. I hadn't set up any patches for bass on my HD500X yet. I downloaded your setlist, used the first patch and it sound 1000% better than the one I quickly hacked together. Great work!

    Done

Hey David. You and I have a lot in common. I LOVED my Tonelab (especially for the AC30 tones), live in Maryland and play my HD500(X) at my church. For me, the sound-nazi--er, I mean, technician--won the "no amps on stage battle" and in hindsight, thank goodness for that. No more hauling around my Mesa Boogie.
  12. You should set up a wiki for this...people could easily contribute that way....
  13. You should set the switch to Line, since you're not going to an amp. The Amp setting is if you are running to an amp. What patch are you running (a built in one, one of your own design or what)? This will take some tweaking to get the sound right...since your sound is dependent on the PA, you can't really tweak the whole thing while you're practicing (at home, as you would with just an amp). I recommend you get Lincoln Brewster's HD500 patches (they work on the HD500X too) as a starting point: https://www.facebook.com/LincolnBrewsterMusic/posts/10151287088779820 In general, you're going to want to add bass and mids, and reduce treble and presence on your patches--what comes out of the PA is going to be different than what you *perceive* thru headphones. If you can, go to the church and dial in your settings before anyone else is there waiting to practice. I use one of these every Sunday at my church and am very happy with the sound I'm getting (it took a few weeks to get it dialed in), but I didn't tweak LB's patches at all. My patches are at http://line6.com/customtone/profile/brian6string.
  14. Heres link to my article that has a link to the tones: http://line6.com/support/topic/5474-new-hd500x-tones-on-custometone/ Brian
  15. @Netfly: Nice! Are you running your pedals in front of the HD500? That's what I do and use the HD as basically an amp simulator. It's a great hybrid approach.
  16. I just uploaded my current suite of tones to CustomTone. You can find them at: http://line6.com/customtone/profile/brian6string They all: Are stereo Assign FS1 to turn amp 1 off/on (on by default) Assign FS2 to turn amp 2 off/on (on by default) Assign FS3 to turn on/off the Memoryman delay (off by default) Assign FS4 to turn on/off the comp/boost (off by default) Assign exp pedal 2 (I use an external) to control the amount of reverb Some of these mix dual amp models, some use dual paths to emulate dual mic'ing of a single amp. The dual amp models (AC30+Plexi, AC30+JCM800, AC30+Dual Rectifier, Dual Rectifier+Epic, JCM800+SLO) all add a tiny bit of 100% wet digital delay to the amp on the right side of the mix, in order to increase stereo separation...a really nice effect. The dual mic'd models (AC30, Dual Rectifier, Epic, Gibson, JCM800, Plexi, SLO) all mix both signals to the center. All models are set to be at around the same output level (aka unity), at least to my ears, with my setup (1998 PRS CE-24). I've spent a good deal of time tweaking the EQ settings to get them sounding pretty good (TME, WMS). If you're new or are looking to add some stuff to your collection, enjoy. The bolded ones above are my favorites if you're looking to just try out a couple. Brian
  17. No prob. I have used this in situations where the sound dudes can't spare an extra channel (all of my patches are stereo), so I can tell you this works for sure. I only run the XLRs out so I don't know the answer about the 1/4" / output setting.
  18. You can get a Y adapter for the two XLR outs (2 females -> 1 male) , couldn't you? Like this one:
  19. Well I agree that if you were hoping they REALLY reinvented the guitar amp, this offering is disappointing. However... If they really had reinvented the guitar amp--let your imagination roam for a while--I don't know about you but I'd be even more upset because I just shelled out $$$ for a POD HD500X, and I'd now be "needing" this new thing. So in a perverse way, I'm sort of glad that the Amplifi isn't really aimed at us who want more/better from Line 6.
  20. I wish this editor was available for the HD. I wonder if you could get a Bluetooth dongle thingy to plug into the USB of the HD if you could get the app to work? It would be nice to not have to be tethered to a computer to do editing. I also wonder why they used the X3 as the basis of this, after convincing us all that the HD tech was so much better. Probably they didn't want to have an LCD panel on the amp to display "out of DSP". :/
  21. One way is to take the same amp model x2. Mix both to the center, but use different mic combinations on each. My favorite is SM57, one on-axis, one off-axis. Another way is to mix and match one clean-ish amp with one more distorted, hard pan these L-R. Suggest AC30 + Dual Rectifier. For this arrangement, I put a digital delay in one of the signal paths, 100% wet with a very short delay time (24ms or so). Gives you a little bit of separation between the two signals.
  22. Does your church record the services. Mine does (direct from the board, not post-production or anything). I found that the best thing I could do was get a copy of the recordings and tweak my patches afterward. Mostly, EQing was what I needed to do. It took several tries but eventually I landed on something I really liked. If you have lots of time where you can setup in the space and use the PA, you could do something like this in reverse. Meaning, connect to the PA, use the looper function to record something, leave it playing back thru the PA and go stand somewhere in the church, listen, tweak, repeat.
  23. This might help: http://www.grumpyrocker.co.uk/a-guide-to-using-the-pod-hd-expression-pedal-to-create-great-morphing-patches#.UtVVzfRDvTo
  24. On the iPod, turn off any equalizer setting ("small speakers" or whatever). I noticed on my iPad, that having an equalizer set, it diminishes the overall volume output considerably, which isn't bad if you're using headphones, but when plugging it into your POD, it's pretty bad.
  25. I'm using the NosePedal.com purple pedal with my HD500X. Depends on what you're doing with it whether this is useful for you (it's a knob you can control with your foot instead of your typical expression pedal). For my purposes its great because its small, and I only use it occasionally to change a parameter on a patch and leave it there.
