  1. I just picked up the Carvin Legacy 4x12 from Rosen Digital. While there is probably something similar in Helix, I find the three Carvin Legacy ones to match almost exactly the sound in my head for a lot of tones I'm always after. No playing with different mics and mic distances. Just three to pick from and all three well worth the six dollars. But it's more of a compliment to what's already in Helix, not necessarily better. I'm glad the option to load IRs is there.

    Helix FAQ

Only one controller per parameter. But for your case there's probably many ways to do what you want. So keep the 'channel volume'? of the amp controlled with the expression pedal, and assign the output block level parameter to a switch, with min and max values. You could even simulate one of those cutout switches on guitars by making it momentary by using the output block level parameter and using a -120dB min value.
  3. My guess would yes, they have to be reentered after doing a global reset since these settings are stored on the device, including the global EQ.
  4. Glad you got it working. Tried that preset and the sound never cut out. Odd problem and solution. When you did the factory reset, was it the one where it just rebuilds the presets and clears the IRs (8 & 9), or that plus resetting the globals (9 & 10)?
  5. 1. Select the simple delay 2. Hold down the Feedback encoder for a second 3. Set the controller to the desired expression pedal 4. Set the min and max values 5. Change the parameter to Mix 6. Set the controller to the desired expression pedal 7. Set the min and max values 8. Press the home button

    How to reset?

The ones that I know about (I'm sure there are lots more): 1. Hold switches 8 & 9 while powering on: resets setlists to factory and clears any loaded IRs. 2. Hold switches 9 & 10 while powering on: same as 8 & 9 plus it resets globals. (do this one after updating to firmware 1.02.2) 3. Hold switch 2 while powering on: some sort funky led color thingy. Doesn't actually do anything except allows you to mess with the led colors. 4. Anyone know any others? If you can find a different computer to flash the most recent firmware, I would. Prior to 1.02.2, I had screen corruption, black screen of no response, other minor things. But since 1.02.2 I've had none of those problems.
  7. I tried this and couldn't get the sound to cut out. 1.02.2, usb connected, spdif out for monitoring. Could it be something related to the variax connection or L6 Link? Maybe try it without those connections?
  8. Nobody hears a difference? What I hear is subtle but obvious. It might help if you put a higher gain amp in the chain and use headphones. The difference between the two mutant filter effects I'm hearing is: the one that doesn't sound right has the frequency range it's working on higher (like a wah with a position from 50 to 100) than after adjusting the gain down 0.1 then up 0.1. After the adjustment, the frequency range sounds lower (like a wah with a position from 0 to 75), and also more correct to my ears. It seems to me that it shouldn't operate like this, and I fear it's a bug with the mutant filter.
  9. Can anyone else confirm that the Mutant Filter doesn't behave properly? 1. Use a new preset and add a mutant filter 2. Play the guitar and remember how the effect sounds (it doesn't sound quite right) 3. Adjust the Gain down 0.1 then up 0.1 4. Play the guitar and notice that now it sounds correct 5. Save the preset 6. Switch to a different preset 7. Switch back to the preset saved in step 5 8. Repeat steps 2 through 4

    Sustain

The Red Comp is pretty good for extra sustain as NucleusX describes it to be used.
  11. Interesting. I have no problem transferring a block of IRs at one time either. Are they in the order you want them to be in on Helix? Or, is the order you see your block of IRs in Win10's file manager the same order you see them on Helix?
  12. They don't drop sequentially, unless you rename the IRs with numbered prefixes, 001-, 002-, etc. And when dropped onto the Helix application the renamed IRs have to match the slots you're putting them in.

    Auto Volume Swell

No, you didn't miss anything, or rather you are missing something cause the auto volume swell isn't there. Vote for it on ideascale: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Auto-volume-for-Helix/741035-23508
  14. It's still visible on the device's screen, so it's just the edit software. I opened a support ticket for this back in April and the person I talked with said they are aware of the problem and working on a fix. Seems like a long time to fix a seemingly small problem. Who really knows when or even if they will get around to fixing it. I'm sure a lot of their resources are focused Helix right now.

    IR Management?

You probably meant this thread: http://line6.com/support/topic/16188-ir-loading-order/ Renaming the IR files with a prefix of 001-, 002-, etc. works for when Helix crashes and you want to reload all of your IRs quickly and painlessly and predictably. A good way to think of IRs in the context of Helix is an all or nothing type of thing. Keep your IR files (with the numbered prefixes) on your computer somewhere. That way when Helix crashes, or for whatever other reason, you can just drag them all at once onto the Helix application and you're done.
  16. Grab an effect, hit action, use the joystick and move it down, hit action again. Then to move the split or merge block, cursor over them and hit action then the joystick to move.
  17. One way would be to assign the parameter 'route to' of an A/B split to a switch with a min value of B 100 and a max value of A 100. Put the cab on one path and the IR on the other. You could also use the expression pedal for this if you want a smoother transition between the cab and IR. Another way might be to put the cab and IR in series and assign both of them to a footswitch. Enable one, disable the other and save the patch. Now when you hit the footswitch it will toggle between the two. For the 2 IRs in the same preset problem you're having, you're probably running into the DSP limit of one processor. Take the output of path 1 and direct it to path 2 and move some stuff from path 1 to path 2.
  18. Assign the parameter 'route to' of an A/B split to a switch with a min value of B 100 and a max value of A 100. You could also use the expression pedal for this if you want a smoother transition between the two cabs.

    CRASHED!!!!

I know the feeling about the power going out. It almost always happens at the worst possible time. Does anyone know if there is some sort of failsafe boot mode?
  20. I stick with using 48KHz. I think internally this is the rate Helix processes things. You could use 96KHz, but as to this rate providing higher fidelity, maybe your ears could detect a difference, maybe not, probably not.
  21. Or you're on the floor with your guitar tweaking a patch and your legs become numb so you have to switch positions, and in this process the headstock of the guitar smashes into the screen. Oops.
  22. Those seem awfully large for IRs. What kind of IRs are they? Most I've come across are generally less than 10KB or 20KB. And if the IR that you're loading actually contains enough samples that needs 244KB, it will be cut off at 2048 samples.
  23. Quoting works with IE11 if you right click the quote button and select 'open in new tab'. But other stuff is broken, like the dialog that pops up when using the link button; the dialog pops up fine but then you can't get rid of it.
  24. I've noticed this also. Only it's not just an IR block. It does it with an amp block, and any cab blocks. Not sure about amp+cab blocks. To fix it, select the block that's being bypassed and hit the menu button -> footswitch assign -> and turn the encoder to make it say none. Then save the patch.
  25. If you haven't already tried, the only other thing I can think to do is reflashing the firmware.
