So I Finally Jumped Ship, Dumped My Hd500 And The Last Of My Line 6 Gear.
brue58ski replied to EOengineer's topic in POD HD
Where do you get that from? I can assure you of one thing. There is no policy "protecting" Christian people from any "bad" words. The "bad word filter" is in no way connected nor is it there for, from or by any religion or group, let alone Christians. It's just some Line 6 official policy. But I guess people like to point fingers at certain groups. Even though there is no evidence to confirm their claim. Let alone the fact that the word D I C K has no overtly religious connection that I know of and is not considered religiously correct or incorrect. You seem to have some gripe against Christians that you might consider getting over. -

At least that's what we thought until the singer showed up. We're the second tier. -
When you go to upgrade the X3, do you tell it to save your presets or over write them. I do remember issues when you tell it to save your presets. Save your presets to your computer and then when it asks if you want to save your presets during the upgrade say no. This may help uncorrupt any corrupted patches by deleting them from your X3. Hope this helps in some way

Absolutely. One thing motorcycle riding taught me is situational awarness. Constantly knowing and watching what's going on around you. Saved my a$$ more than once in car and on bike. Now, about that AC/DC tone......... :D ;) -
Rollback From Flash V2.1 To V1.9

Actually, it is. But limited. The choices are audio or linear. -

I actually like trying to get a patch to sound "spot on" (whatever that really is) to a song and it seems in many ways, because of the improved models, easier than before. With the X3 and the previous Line 6 modelers, I couldn't just read about somebodies rig and then use those models and get close. I often had to use a different model than what the artist originally used. Now I can use what the artist used and generally get very close. Not always but at the very least the HD500 gets me closer than the previous Line 6 modelers. Although I STILL can't get that elusive AC/DC sound. It's so frustrating!!. I mean for something that sounds so raw and pure amp, you'd think it'd be easy but I've never gotten close and have tried many times. I don't care what Angus says, I think his amps are modded in some way ;). -
Yes. There's an option in Line 6 Monkey to update from file. Click on that and then it will have a box for you to go to where your file is.

Jtv Factory Models Available In Hd500?
brue58ski replied to brue58ski's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Oh well. I mean I realize, since I can't get it back, that it was an anomaly and not the way it was meant to be. But I sure got a little excited for a moment. -
Jtv Factory Models Available In Hd500?
brue58ski replied to brue58ski's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
They were there though if only temporarily. And the F choices were different than the choices with no letter in front i.e. the models I had changed. I know what I saw and heard. -
God bless ya both. Worked great!

I had both the HD Edit and HD Workbench going when HD Edit stopped responding. I closed all the programs and now when I power up my HD500 all I get is the Line 6 logo appearing disappearing and reappearing on my HD500 screen. I've reinstalled everything and tried numerous times to reflash and go back to different flash versions to no avail. I seem to remember this happening to someone else but don't remember if there was a fix. Any ideas? ARRRGH!

Jtv Factory Models Available In Hd500?
brue58ski replied to brue58ski's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Well they're gone. I did mess with the HD500 screen and noticed it only had U in front of all the JTV models. I changed a few from the HD500 itself and then went back to the HD500 edit program and they weren't there anymore. I have tried numerous things to get them back but to no avail. I will keep trying. When the "F" models were there, the user models had no letter in front of them. Now they all have the letter U with no F models at all. -
I haven't seen that anyone else has noticed this but in the HD500 edit program, You can choose from the models you have (or have not) changed or you can go to an area where all the models have the letter F before them. Those are the original models. In other words, in an HD500 patch, let's say you've changed the Spank 4 position to something you like but there was one patch where the original Spank 4 model sounded awesome. You now can program that into your HD500 patch. AND still keep the changed Spank 4 model on your JTV. I LIKE it! In playing with it, if you change the JTV models from the JTV itself it shows up as a factory model in the HD500. I'm curious if when changing guitar models on the JTV when using a 1/4" cable if the same is true. Do you get the factory models or your custom models. I see no way to swap between the two without the HD500. Including in the Workbench program.

Yeah it's too bad. With earlier Pods you were able to do that. VERY handy.

Sg Sound On Jtvariax
brue58ski replied to MatB39's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Yes try the Les Paul Jr body for the SG. Or any of the other flat solid bodies in the "Special" category. That's your first stop in recreating an SG. I have an SG, and have gotten close with the old Variax models. Haven't had time to try it with the JTV models (HD).- 20 replies

"Unless you're handy with electronics and have the knowledge and equipment to repair it, I don't recommend that anyone buy a Vetta at any price. Not unless you're into collecting boat anchors." Do you know if it was that pesky battery issue?

The Pod HD500X connected to one of the Line 6 DT amps with the Line 6 Link. See this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amvfNmHbdw0
-
Bottom line. Best if impedances are the same but if not, make SURE the cab impedance is greater than the amps impedance. Burnt out amp will result if you don't.

I ALMOST got one because of that. they seem flimsy on the HD500. They are the same ones on the X3 Live with which I have had no problems. So because of that and I've got to watch my pennies I'll be patient and wait for the next major upgrade.

The only reason to upgrade from an HD500 to the HD500X is for that little bit of memory increase. And it wasn't a planned upgrade. The chip Line 6 was using to make the HD500 was discontinued and the chip they had to replace it with had more memory. They did tweak other things like the footswitches but, again, the HD500X wasn't a planned upgrade. The 500X name was to make a clear distinction between the two chips. Imagine the uproar if they hadn't done that and people started talking about how they seem to have more memory in their recently purchased HD500. That's also why the HD500 has been discontinued. They chip it was made with ain't here no more. It's no that their bailing on the HD500 series just yet. So bottom line, the HD500X is a slightly better HD500 for the same price. Not better enough for me to upgrade. And it was not planned. My guess is the next gen of HD500 will have a lot more memory but with, at best, slightly tweaked or, better yet, more model selections. I'm hoping for more mic preamps and bass amps. But who knows, we'll see.

Several things are going on. The cabs own frequency response colors the sound. Another is known as the Fletcher-Munson curve. Your own ears have a frequency response curve that changes as things get louder. That's why when making a patch at bedroom levels sounds different when play it at gig levels. And its not an absolute change and differs slightly with different people. Also the room, the type of cab, your proximity to the cab, the angle your are to the cab the height of the cab, your height, , the mic you're using for the headphones, the brand of headphones, etc., etc. There's so many things I often wonder how I even get a patch to sound good. Let alone in more than one situation. The main thing is to know it will be there, not let it frustrate you (too much) and just do the best you can. Going from a power amp/cab to a pair of headphones next to your ears is bound to cause some differences. Getting something to sound the same from your power amp/cap to your headphones/PA will be difficult at best and just requires some old fashioned tweaking. I use the Fletcher Munson curve and the frequency response of my cab to help but it's not definitive. It's even sometimes better to start from scratch again. One HUGE guess in your particular situation is that many guitar speakers frequency response drops off significanlty toward the higher frequencies. For example the much used Celestion GT-75 has a major drop off at about 8K or so. Since you created the patch with the cab, when you use a relatively Full/Range Response thing like the headphones or PA, those high frequencies that had been attenuated by the speaker, will be boosted quite a bit. This sounds like part of your problem. I hope this makes sense. I'm not in a position to get too in depth about it.

Yes. God bless Meambobbo, who has apparently moved on from the HD but still leaves his guide up,

There are some firmware issues that would benefit you if you were to upgrade. Look for the feedback issues thread. None of the recent upgrades (as far as I'm aware) change anything as far as the modeling goes. In other words, it won't change the sound of any of your patches. So my advice would be to go for it. If you do, it is highly recommended that you save all your patches as a bundle (batch?) file and when the upgrade program asks if you want to save your patches say no. And then reload them after the upgrade. I don't have time to go into details but some people have seemed to have issues when they've kept their patches. Look for this thread for more specifics.
