Two of them (including the cup) are for the old Variax and I'm pretty sure they are not totally the same,

Yes, they should send you a new one. They did for me once (an X3 Live).

Have you tried the deep edit parameters for the cabinet.

I hope I can explain this well. There's a "trick" to programming both the wah and vol to the expression pedal footswitch with Exp1 controlling one and Exp 2 contolling the other. After you have assigned them to Exp 1 and Exp 2 and to the toe switch you have to make sure the right effects (wah vol) are on and off in the effects window in HD Edit before you save the patch. For example, lets say you have the Vol assigned to Exp1, Wah to Exp2 both assigned to the footswitch and the pedal is on Exp 2 (Exp 2 light lit on the unit). And you have saved the patch to the unit. Since you had both effects off when you saved it, when you press the footswitch, it will turn them BOTH on. So you would have both the expression pedal and the wah on, with the expression pedal controlling only the Vol (the wah would be stuck in toe forward position). In other words, pressing the toe switch changes the state of the effect (on or off) from where it was when the patch was saved. Both effects on when saved, both effects will turn off when you hit the footswitch. Both effects off when saved, both effects turn on when you hit the footswitch. You have to make sure that the effect you assigned to one of the Exp slots is on or off depending on the state of the pedal on the board. So lets say the Vol is assigned to Exp 1 and the Wah assigned to Exp 2. If the Exp 2 light is lit, you need to go back to your FX page in HD Edit and make sure the wah is turned on and the Vol is turned off before you save the patch. So when you hit the footswitch, the Vol will turn on, the Wah will turn off and the Exp 1 light will now be lit.

JTV-89 and Amplifi

Aplifi uses the old sims (pod xt/x3) not the hd500 sims. Older technology but still sounds good to me. -
A New Variax Bass

Don't hold you're breath. The interest isn't there. Just look at how few people voted. They're going to need more than 40 people to express interest. Alot more. I'm still adding my yes vote but not counting on it. -
I run stereo and mono. You have to use different levels going out from only the left XLR from what you would use going out both. I have a mixer at home with a meter so I use my mixer to set the levels up properly.

One piece of advice, get the HD500X if you can. Just more memory so you can have more amps/effects etc.
-
I think I know what you're asking and if you are the answer is no. The short explanation is that whatever appears at the XLR outputs, appears at the 1/4" outputs. Just at different levels. You can't separate it so path A uses one set of outputs and path B uses the other. You can make it so there are two paths coming out of the HD so, for example, you could have the guitar coming out of the Left channel and a mic coming out of the right output, each with their own separate effects, but they will be mono. There's a bit more to that scenario regarding what happens to levels if you add add effects before you separate the paths (if you want two separate paths you don't) but for now, what I think you're asking is not possible.

Well you can use the HD500 as a soundcard so you can avoid all the latency you method would add. Essentially you are hearing the 500 before the computer and then the computer's output is also going though the HD500 at the same time. Result...no latency! This does mean you need to have the output of the hd500 going into your monitors. Once your 500 is hooked up via USB and your monitors are connected to your 500, you need to select the 500 in your DAW as the DAW's sound source and playback but don't listen to your HD500 track though the software. You'll just hear it though the 500 along with the DAW's tracks that are using the 500 as a soundcard.

You can change the alt tunings to whatever you want. Pehaps someone changed them before you purchased the guitar.

Regarding your low E string. Try this. I posted this elsewhere. OK I've recently gotten the high E, low level problem and this has been my solution. So far it works and is cheap and easy. Apparently the connection to ground happens due to the contact between the piezo and bridge itself. There seems to be some slop in there so I can see how it could get grimy in there and create a less than good connection for ground. I sprayed some electronic cleaner into the piezo area using the thin straw and so far...Problem Solved!!!!!! i specifically used Radio Shack's Precision Electronics Cleaner. It leaves no residue although when you first spray you'll probably start cursing.me. But I swear it goes away. It's been two weeks. I have changed my string and resprayed all the piezos again. I attempt to change my strings every month so I'll let you know if the cleansing keeps the problem away for a month. I think just a monthly squirt of electronics cleaner will end your string lownessdullness factor. Mostly because it's taken a year (or more) for this problem to start. I'm sure it will work for any string with this issue if bad ground connection is the cause

What happened to Variax?
brue58ski replied to guitar4u's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
There was a comment on the HD500 thread by a Line 6 representative that 2015 was going to be a big year for Line 6. He did say to expect an HD 500 upgrade around the end of next year. Take what you want from it. Could be the Variax is part of that "big year" -
First of all, thanks to Digital Igloo for boldly going where no Line 6 representative has gone in awhile. I do appreciate you doing this. I am glad to hear that there's still more to come with the HD500. I did purchase the HD500 with the expectation that there would be upgrades, additions and or improvements. That's how it's been at Line 6 for awhile. I also get that they tend to sell a product when it's usable in it's current state, despite any additional things that are being planned. I get that and am fine with it. I'd rather have it now with other things coming instead of waiting until everything is ready. So the X3/XT had many different USB/recording input and output configurations as well as being able to lock either the 1/4" or XLR output at one level and have the Master Level knob control the other. Since the HD500 was supposed to be the next step up, I fully expected it to have all the input output options that the X3/XT had. The same product with better models. Since they weren't in the HD500, I just expected to eventually get them as had happened with the X3/XT. After all it was definitely presented as being part of the "POD" family. Well it hasn't happened and don't know if it will. It's been so long I don't know if it's even possible (like the EQ percentage issue which, as I understand it, won't ever be Hz or dB). So if there are no more improvements that will be a great disappointment. But I don't feel Im owed anything. None of these things were promised, nor were any upgrades, in any of the official literature that I remember. Now a USB port on a product whose firmware has a version number certainly implies improvements and upgrades are coming. And past history. So you might expect that and you can expect something will happen because of past behavior but it doesn't mean it will happen NOR is there an obligation to make it happen. To me it would be like being upgraded to First class on a plane, several times in a row and then expecting to be upgraded one more time and being denied. "Well you've always upgraded me before!!". So what. If it isn't in writing, it's on you that it's not happening. That's an expectation and expecting something, doesn't mean it should or will happen. It's been mentioned before, and I agree, that it seems to be part of the "I'm entitled to this" mentality that seems to permeate people these days. Yes, it's disappointing. Yes, it feels like I've been led to believe something (due to past behavior). Yes, there may even be some kind of moral, "if you were honorable you would", obligation to "do the right thing"...slightly. But a legal, absolute, black and white obligation. No. That's the way it is. So stomp your feet, post your thread, take your money soemewhere else but to try and argue that getting upgrades is the way it is, is ludicrous. The way it should be? I guess that's what this thread is about. I doubt this will sway very many people but here's one more opinion that no one really needs. It isn't as if Line 6 hasn't completely dropped the ball at times either. I'm still waiting for the promised Variax bass/workbench compatibility that I based a lot of my Varaix bass purchase on. And they always said they were working on the final Vetta II amp issues that are still present. At least they finally said they were done and to expect them to work on it no more. That's probably one reason why they don't promise any future stuff with products any more.

Thank you for all the info and because of it, I have a fix that so far has worked for about 30 minutes. I mess with electronics in my job and the fact that the piezo's housing acts as the contact for ground gave me an idea. I loosened my E sting enough so I could get the string off of the piezo and sprayed some electronics cleaner into it using the thin red straw that came with it (like what WD-40 has). Worked immediately. I just used Radio Shacks version of this (Precision Electronics Cleaner catalog #64-4345) and it left no residue. It looked like it would at first (sprayed everywhere!) but it eventually dissipated. There's something called Deoxit that I used to use at work a long time ago. It claims to improve the connectivity of contacts. I remember loving the stuff but I don't remember what residue, if any, it leaves. Unfortunately I had JUST placed an order for the piezo replacement and by the time I called today it was too late; it had already shipped. They must have ordered a few extra when they placed snhisch's order with Line 6. Sorry snhisch. They put mine in the mail less than 24 hours after I ordered it. I can only assume it is thanks to your efforts. So, although I may not need it, thank you.

Is your Mission Engineering pedal 10K ohms or 25K ohms?

I use an M-Audio fast track USB Guitar/Mic recording interface with Pod Farm on my PC. I just plug into the M-Audio with my guitar and listen with headphones through the same thing. Or I can hook it up to a stereo via RCA jacks and, of course, the headphone mini plug output. I can also then play along with any media on my computer. Do you get access to Pod Farm with the Legacy footboard?
-
Can you let us know if and when you get them? It looks like I'm gonna need to get one too. I might as well get two I guess. Also, can someone explain to me just what's going on physically that creates this phenomenon? Is it a bad connection?. Possible piezo damage? Wear and tear due to Whammy bar usage? It seems to be a relatively common occurance. Seems odd that it seems to occur mostly on the E string.
-
So I have now begun experiencing the low E phenomenon. I also have discovered that it is definitely happening at the piezo transducer. It was sometimes low and sometimes normal. One time when it was low, I hit my whammy bar (JTV69) and it popped up to normal volume. So, I have a question. I seem to remember someone mentioning that, I think it was Graphtech, had replacement saddles that worked and were a lot better. Is that true and if it is, is it a relatively easy job to replace the saddle? I am going to make sure the saddle is clean but an thinking about replacing them with better piezos,, if there is such a thing.

Ah. I see. Just looking for variations. I have taken shots at the "Jazz" tone using my method but never got anything that really blew me away. But, then again, I haven't spent a lot of time on it.
