Jtv V2 Models Png Poster
brue58ski replied to ozbadman's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
For the bass, there's this Variax Bass Quick Guide.pdf There is a chart like the one at the beginning of this post that I can't find on the internet. I'm pretty sure I have it but it's not with me. If I do find it, I will post it later. -
You've probably already done this but I would just start toggling everything off and on, one at a time, starting with what is engaged (obviously, I know) and then everything that is not engaged. If the sound of the distortion you're hearing is good it sure sounds like it's coming from some parallel path. Maybe some effects mix parameter is off? That's all I've got for now.

Boy that sucks. It looks like a zipper to me (Hardee Har Har). I am curious as to what it is.

'SINGLE COIL or HUMBUCKER' - paradox?
brue58ski replied to fruijter7777's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Also, you can mix the signals from both the simulated pickups and the mags on the guitar and save that on your Variax. The same thing can be done in the Helix if you have one -
I don't have one but I have some advice. Try a 12 string model and a capo. The higher you raise the pitch of a string digitally, the worse it sounds. So you definitely need to use a capo to get a good simulation of that.

He said he put the stereo delay at the end of his chain. Specifically " If I add a stereo delay at the very end it only repeats in mono" so I don't think that applies to his situation. It is definitely a trap that I myself have fallen into but not applicable to this.

This really intrigues me. I have a full on floor Helix so this isn't as critical a thing for me but I wonder if some people might start coming up with EQ's that approximate Helix cabs and make some kind of list; especially for those that have the HX Stomp. Is this patch on Customtone? I am curious how it sounds.

I remember a comment by Digital in around October I think. Someone mentioned it wouldn't be done until Feb. Digital's response was I hope not. That just show me they were working hard enough then to think it would be ready before Feb. So OP just know it is being worked on and as SOON as it's done you will know. No amount of questioning will give you any more of an answer than that.

There's and update coming? I had no idea.. ;) I must say the "when's it coming threads" aren't as prolific as they have been in the past. I was just thinking yesterday how I hadn't seen anything here lately like that. I guess i jinxed it, huh.

The Big Book of Helix Tips & Tricks has exactly what you are looking for. Highly recommended.

I thought the same thing about it being an ad. I am now convinced it's not. I will also add my COMPLETE ENDORSEMENT for this book. It is VERY impressive. If you're looking for an all in one in depth document on the Helix, this is it. You don't get this info from Line 6.

Replacing Pickups on a JTV59
brue58ski replied to nbiglin's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I believe the main thing is the pickups impedance have something to do with the circuit. Read this. It could change the way your guitar sounds more than just the differences the pickup may have. -
Fender Jaguar sound
brue58ski replied to fruijter7777's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
This is a comment that was about a Jaguar patch that was liked but no one can find. It's the guitar body and pickup used in the patch. Maybe this will help. If i recall corectly the jaguar was the body of firebird with the lipstick pickups of the danelectro. -
My JTV HD SG and Jaguar presets released
brue58ski replied to clay-man's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Personal Message. You can do that here somewher on the forum. Arsilaf has something called Arsilaf's Realistic JTV Bundle. It has an SG in it I believe. you could try that. I tried uploading the file here but it's too big. It's on the Vguitar forum and you'll have to join the forum to download it. Remember it is a bundle so backup your JTV patches before installing the bundle on your guitar. It will replace all of them and you'll lose them if you don't. FYI all bundles do that. Here's the link. https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=24065.0 -
The title says it. I like many of the sounds on the page linked below, but I don't seem to be able to get what I hear there. I have a Helix. So how were each of those sounds recorded. I know what the guitars are. Can I get the rest of the signal path? https://line6.com/variax-modeling-guitars/sound/

My JTV HD SG and Jaguar presets released
brue58ski replied to clay-man's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Unfortuantely Clay-Man hasn't been here since 2019. Maybe if you PM him? I would like them as well if you find them. I think arislaf is still around. Try him. In my search for this patch, I found this https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=16551.msg139810#msg139810 So it sounds like arislaf got it at the time. I'm still looking. -
You are going to need these. https://www.amazon.com/Line-Variax-Spare-Lithium-Battery/dp/B08Z3FBLF8?ref_=ast_sto_dp https://www.amazon.com/Line-Variax-Battery-Charger-Kit/dp/B006HKEL3Y?ref_=ast_sto_dp You need to be careful about the battery you get. This one was on the Line 6 area of Amazon so it should be good. There are others that have the same dimensions and specs but, it's my understanding that there is a proprietary chip in the "official" Line 6 battery that regulates some things so all batteries are not equal. Good luck!

How to clean Piezo Pickups?
brue58ski replied to yelldog's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I had this issue and then used DeOxit D5. I must say, a small spritz of DeOxit on each piezo when I change my strings has kept it "running". When the strings are off, the DeOxit can get into the space between the piezo and the saddle. You are essentially doing the Alcohol thing but don't need the canned air. DeOxit is what all the "pro's use" Everywhere I've worked (I work with electronic stuff) there are cans of DeOxit always available. -
Well you can't do what you describe but you can control parameters with the tone and volume knob. I use this to simulate Tom Scholz's Space Echo.

COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC:To spaceatl. My mouse hovered over your avatar and I noticed it said you joined this forum on Dec 31, 1969. That's amazing! I didn't know Line 6 had been around that long!!! How did you do it? (just joking of course, But I had to make some comment.)

Left/Mono bug: really frustrating experience dealing with Line 6 support
brue58ski replied to theElevators's topic in Helix
I don't know if this has been mentioned. Does it still not sum to mono when the XLR outputs aren't plugged in? Could the fact the XLR's are being used in stereo and you want a summed mono out of the 1/4" confuse the Helix? -
I had Electronic Projects For Musicians. Another great book if you want to rewire your guitar is Guitar Electronics for Musician by Donald Brosnac. I got it when it was just called Guitar Electronics. It's falling apart. Rewired my SG so I could have my two humbuckers wired in any configuration using three 4 pole six throw switches with this book. I don't even know if they make those switches anymore let alone the ones that fit in an SG.

For those of you that use white noise to EQ rooms or your guitar cab, do you prefer using white noise to using pink noise? What ever you prefer, if you have time can you tell me why?

I understand what you are saying I agree with you but I think the goal is just maintaining the same relative level as effects/amps/patches as they are changed. That's where this comes in handy. When judging the overall loudness/level at the speaker level, you are absolutely correct. But for just maintaining the same relative level internally in the Helix domain as things/patches are changed, this seems like a great way to do it. As far as doing it with meters there's no better way that I'm aware of. Your ears are merely one more tool to judge things and should be the ultimate thing used to decide. But my ears get tired at times and they arent' what they used to be either. I just recently found out about LUFS (thanks to forums like this) and it seems like a good way to judge the relative level of things. Haven't dove into it yet though. I just read the previous post to mine and that totally goes in line with what I'm trying to say. Meter's are a great place to start, but ultimately end with your ears. A big thing is the meters won't tell you how your patch's sound will fit with a bass and drums pounding away. The meters may say you're good, but your sound could disappear once the band starts playing. Speaking from experience here.

Stiff volume pot on JTV-89F
brue58ski replied to rockmancentral's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Did you buy it used? I had found that I kept bumping into my Variax 89F volume pot which in turn kept changing it. So I took the volume knob off of the post and put a rubber washer on the post. I then put the volume knob back on the post. Now it is actually hard to turn but I was never a volume pot guy anyway. I think this was a tip I got off of this forum so if you haven't already, carefully take the volume pot off of the post and see if anything has been put there to make it hard to turn.
