Hey! Where's the chorus-flanger-phaser-univibe-wah your supposed to always have? ;)

Here's as much as I know which isn't much. Lindsey mainly plays a guitar he helped design which is now available as a Rick Turner Model 1 guitar. See it here. http://www.edroman.com/guitars/rickturner/model1.htm However when he first joined Fleetwood Mac he says that he switched from a Strat to a Les Paul because they needed a fatter sound. So he probably played a Les Paul and probably used the neck pickup for the solo. He used a Martin Dreadnought acoustic guitar of some kind for the main parts. Maybe a D-18? I believe he used Hiwatts at the time as well. So Les Paul, neck pickup with a Hiwatt amp get's you started. I like the Cavern (Cave?) reverb but just try all the "large" ones like "Stadium" "Large Hall", etc.. You'll probably want the mix a little high. That'll get you started but you should still expect to put a bit of time into it. Wicked Game sounds like a Strat with the pickup selector on the 4th position (this is the neck and middle pickup together out of phase). Then just go with one of the Fender Amps (Deluxe or Twin) and slap on that large reverb with the mix even higher than you did for Landslide. Maybe even put a delay before the reverb for either of them although, my rusty memory tells me there is no delay on Landslide. Keep in mind the reverbs in the HD500x aren't absolutely wonderful. They don't seem as full as I've heard and the reverbs in those two songs are very full to me. So don't get disappointed that you can't get the reverb perfectly. You probably won't. Hope this helped. Good Luck!!

This is true. I posted this awhile ago WARNING:WARNING. This won't work. I know according to the specs the "hole" on the connector is 2.1mm but this is WRONG!!!. 2.1mm is too small. I wasted $20 finding this out. The correct measurment is 2.5mm not 2.1mm. I was trying to get an elbow adapter for the 500 and the 2.1 didn't work. The specific measurements were. 5.5 X 2.5. This is what I got. BiXPower LC53 Right Angle Connector Converter for 5.5 x 2.5mm DC Power Connector This size worked. I don't know why their measurements are so off. So if you got that power supply, you would need a 2.1mm-2.5mm barrel to convert it too the proper size.

Are you referring to the reverb/echo?
-
I'm guessing you're looking for a way to hook the HD500x's to each other and transfer them then. This is not possible. You need a computer with HD500X Edit on it.
-
Have you tried turning the RES LEVEL down in the CAB PARAMETERS section. That section also has a LOW CUT parameter. I'm guessing you have already explored these but if not, they're worth a try.

Really though, what is a "hard whiz" ? WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I think)

I know of no such file. If yoy have the edit program installed, you can look in your programs folder for the Line 6 folder. In there there will be an HD 500X folder. That contains all the files. No such file in there.
-
But if Line 6 has to raise it's wages to keep up with the rise in prices that a $15 minimum wage will create, won't the price of the Helix have to go up?

First steps with a brand new JTV?
brue58ski replied to Indianrock2020's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Here's a cheap strap lock alternative. There are a few beers out there with a rubber washer. Grolsch is one of them. Use that for a strap lock. Not only do you get a cheap and reliable strap lock, you get a tasty malt beverage to consume while installing said strap lock. And it uses the original screws!!! For store bought strap locks I have used the Schaller strap locks for years. I have a JTV 69 a JTV89F and two original Variaxs and used them on all of them with no screw issues (comes with it's own screws). If the hole is a little loose, take a round toothpick or two, put a little white glue on them and push them into the hole. Snap off the excess and screw the strap lock screws in. No electronics issues. Here it is at Guitar Center http://www.guitarcenter.com/Schaller/Guitar-Strap-Locks-and-Buttons-Pair.gc Not that the "Grolsch" straplocks aren't completely legitimate. -
The tape delays are modeled on delays that were used before the amp (preamp/poweramp) with the rest of the stomp boxes. They were generally the last thing in the chain before the amp

Not enough sound (output) from Alto TS112a for band practice?
brue58ski replied to Haxasaurus's topic in POD HD
Are you using the XLR's? If you are they are designed for mic level and have a fairly low output. If you are, try the 1/4' outputs and make sure your amp/line switch is on line. Watch out though, it will be significantly stronger. Start out with your powered speakers volume at 0. -
I have no Helix so these are big guesses. Austin Clean - Eric Johnson Clean Austin Lead - Eric Johnson Distortion Interstate Zed - Led Zepplin Lights - Lights Journey You've Got - You've Got Another Thing Coming OR You Really Got Me

Here's what happened. The chip Line 6 used for the HD500 was discontinued. The chip they replaced it with had more memory. They had no choice. That was the chip they had to replace it with. This created a dilemma. Keep selling the units with the new chip as the HD500. Then watch the explosion as new owners with the new chip start to talk about how they are able to load more stuff than the other people. Let alone the havoc it would wreak in the trading of patches. Or they could limit the HD500 so it couldn't use the extra memory. Or they could do what they chose to do. Give the units with the new replacement chip a different designation. Then every HD500X owner can use the extra memory with out the firestorm it would have created otherwise. There was still some whining but I think Line 6 did exactly what they should have done. They even changed the footswitches to what many consider to be better ones. Why not if you can. I have used HD500X patches that don't tax the memory on the HD500 and visa versa (I own both. One is a backup) but they don't always like it. If I change a parameter or two and then save it from the unit (not from HD Edit) they then seem to be OK with it.

JTV69 saddle setup
brue58ski replied to Sampo72's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
If you mean the actual bridge saddle and not all 6 of them relative to each other, then the saddle itself should be parallel. That's what I do anyway. -
JTV69 saddle setup
brue58ski replied to Sampo72's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Did some of my own researtch and here's what I found... Thanks again Martin, but I have SOLVED the issue. I took the guitar to a friend's house. He has a great collection of tools. We found a wrench that fit perfectly, and to my surprise it measured as 0.050" (well, 0.0485-0.052 across various facets). I borrowed it. I re-measured my own wrench and got essentially the same values across the flats, but it was still loose in the screw! WTF?, as they say. Then I had a close look at my own wrench (the one supplied with the guitar) with a magnifier and found that the ends had been rounded over so that it no longer gripped. Presumably someone in the shop had done a tuneup too vigorously and damaged the wrench. So the upshot is that the Allen wrench sizes supplied were correct, i.e. 1 - 1.5mm hex 1 - 4mm hex 1 - 5/64" hex 1 - 7/64" hex 1 - 3/32" hex 1 - 0.050" hex But the smallest one was damaged on arrival. So the 0.050" hex is the right size -
JTV69 saddle setup
brue58ski replied to Sampo72's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
If you're asking what I think you're asking, the JTV69 has a 12" neck radius so the saddles should follow that radius. I'm not sure what the Allen wrench size is. If you search these forums, the size is in one of the posts somewhere I think. -
One thing I've done is use a compressor to boost the lead. Keep in mind, Pianoguy's comments are very valid. He has a lot of live experience and should be paid attention to. Having said that, I will use a compressor with the threshold and sustain set at 0. Set your "rhythm" level with the compressor off. Then with the compressor on, use the gain parameter to adjust your "lead" level. This is best done at playing levels and not bedroom levels. If you do set it at bedroom levels, don't forget to check it where ever you're live and adjust the compressor output accordingly. You may have to adjust the threshold and/or sustain to be effective. Just try to keep them as low as possible. The compressor will color your sound a smidge so it's not a perfect solution. I generally put the compressor right after the amp if and when I use this method. So now ya just engage the compressor for that lead boost.

A trick I use to build tones is to use the looper. Make the looper pre, record the lick or riff, loop it. Now you can change the parameters while the lick/riff is playing your "dry" guitar back. Helps you to focus on just the tone.
-
One trick I've seen is to put the mic about nose bridge level and keep it about 3-4 inches away from your face. The right mic is fairly critical and most quality on air radio mics are around $400. Just google them. The Electrovoice RE20 comes to mind as being an industry standard.

They never did the PROMISED Workbench for the Variax bass. Which is absolutely mentioned in my Variax bass manual as something to look forward to. Something that still, after all these years, sticks in my craw. Still love my Variax bass despite that. I think bass players are just too particular. I would say it's not so much that they have written off bass players as much as bass players seemed to never really give the Variax bass a chance. Can't make 'em if no one's buying 'em.

New Acoustic Model...
brue58ski replied to ckonefke's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Hey! I have the same two guitars. But my JTV69 is black. That's my backup. I don't know if I could get away with putting them where you appear to have put them. But I love the way it looks. -
New picking technique I'm trying
brue58ski replied to shredjsx's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I've been doing that for years. Even when playing an acoustic guitar. Thumb and index hold the pick and act as thumb. Middle ring and pinky for the picking fingers. The pinky was the hardest part for me. You not only have to practice alot to get it nice and strong, you have to keep up with it or you will lose your pinky strength fairly quickly. Especially at my age. But it works for me. Definitely a personal preference. -
Sounds like you need some EQ. Here's the link to the video mentioned earlier. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iJ9v7SCCt_c&feature=youtu.be
