Serious Helix 2.82 bug (Christmas research)[Updated]
cruisinon2 replied to havkayak's topic in Helix
Yup. And any one of us could get hit by a bus tomorrow, too. We'd better all stay home... -

Or I could just chuckle and delete it with the dozen+ other similar spam messages that I'll see in my inbox this week. Really no need for the SWAT team... -
Helix Backpack - what you using the outside elastic for?
cruisinon2 replied to Deadmans's topic in Helix
They're for carrying spare Fetzer valves. -
Agree with the above... most Bluetooth stuff will introduce intolerable latency. Those things are all designed with passive listening in mind, in which case 40ms of latency wouldn't make the least bit of difference... but for playing an instrument in real time, 40ms is an eternity.

Yes, that's to be expected... the closer the interval, the greater the dissonance. I know you're frustrated because you're posting this all over the place, but as I said in one of the other threads, the overwhelming likelihood is that you are simply hearing both the altered tuning as well as the sound of the guitar acoustically. This is a common complaint with new users... it's fooled many right out of the box, including myself. And before you dismiss that out of hand as impossible, I assure you that it is. The exact same thing happens with guitars other than my Variax, along with my Digitech Drop pedal. We always hear the guitar itself at lower volumes, and provided that the pitch coming from the speaker and directly from the guitar are the same, then the acoustic sound of the instrument is easily ignored. That becomes impossible however, when those pitches are no longer the same... particularly at close intervals like a 1/2 step... the dissonance is awful. That's why nobody records harmony lines in minor 2nds. Turn up the amp, or use closed back headphones, also turned up sufficiently so that you are not hearing the guitar itself, and I'll bet that the problem goes away.

Alternate Tune sounds weird
cruisinon2 replied to leemh's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Volume. At typical living room practice volumes, it's a whole lot easier to hear the guitar acoustically than you think... the strings are inches from your ears... it's impossible to not hear them, unless your monitoring source (whatever it is) is sufficiently loud that it drowns out the strings themselves. When the pitch you hear directly from the strings and what's coming out of your speakers are not the same, dissonance is inevitable. Turn up until you can't hear the guitar itself anymore. Trust me... that's what's happening. Nobody thinks it's possible at first, but it is. I use a Digitech Drop pedal when I'm playing anything that isn't my Variax, and the exact same thing happens. As long as you can also hear the unaltered pitches directly, it'll sound like a complete mess. -

I sympathize with your plight, but if you think you're going to "shame" tech support into doing anything by posting in a user forum, you're barking up the wrong tree. "Official" folks rarely show up here, and it's extraordinarily unlikely that the guy(s) you're pi$$ed at will ever see this.

Nothing will be considered in here... this is a user forum. Feature requests have to be posted in Ideascale, otherwise nobody in a position to act will ever see it.

Are you talking about the screws that trem claw hangs on? In your other thread you didn't mention anything about screws... you were talking about the distance between tremolo springs, not screws. Either way, it's weird... the claws that the tremolo springs connect to are pretty standard. Don't see how the screws that mount the claw to the body could be any closer together than usual. Can you post a pic?

Something doesn't seem quite right about that price... at the current exchange rate, that's ~$166, a few bucks less than what the Helix backpack currently sells for, lol. Can't be right... at almost 75% off, it's gotta be used, or a banged up demo unit or something.

Some folks live for finding a new axe to grind. Or they just latch onto one particular gripe and harp on it, over and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over............

What you need it's some sort of FRFR speaker(s), studio monitors, etc. The Classic 15 is a modeler itself, and not intended to be used as a "clean slate" platform for other modeling devices.

Why the non-standard Trem spring width?
cruisinon2 replied to Nos402's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Don't think it would ever have occurred to me to drag out the calipers and measure the space between the trem springs... but either way, I didn't have any trouble installing my Tremel-No. -
That's a great story... tell it again!

Some amps use up more DSP than others, and the IR's can chew up a lot, too... but the amp model is usually the biggest DSP hog.
-
It should also include the following: Having somebody else to: 1) Clear the table 2) Take out the garbage 3) Mow the lawn 4) Shovel the driveway If that ain't happening, then you're not doing it right...;)

Not good enough. I'm waiting until it can open worm holes.

This really isn't the problem at all. An honest critique is a good thing, and can often be something we can learn from. But the issue here is when someone approaches you to say "That sounded great! What amp are you using?"... and when you tell them "Thanks, but technically there is no amp, I run a modeler direct", they get a sour look on their face and immediately backpedal, effectively retracting the compliment payed just moments before. You were "great" one second, and scoffed at the next. That's the gripe... not somebody giving an honest assessment of what they heard. Whether it's good or bad, honest is honest. But when their opinion turns on a dime, swayed by nothing more than finding out what gear you use, it's not honest... it's comical. And fwiw, yes... it's happened to me several times, and it never fails to amuse, especially when it's a complete stranger. Who behaves like that? Either you liked what you heard, or you didn't...pick one. Now maybe it's me, but as far as I'm concerned anyone who's instantly malleable like that had no idea what they heard in the first place, and they were talking out of their a$$ from the first syllable... they just want to appear like they're "in the know". It's pathetic, and quite frankly, deserving of scorn.

Helix Stomp sounds great thru studio monitors but thin thru amp or PA speakers
cruisinon2 replied to marhil's topic in Helix
Your problem is mostly volume. Search for threads dealing with the Fletcher-Munson curve... this comes up all the time, and there are a million of them. It's also due to the fact that you are comparing speakers that are designed to do very different things. A tone created at comfortable volume through studio monitors will fall apart when cranked to stage volume through a completely different set of speakers. The only real solution is to dial in your sounds at or near the volume at which you intend to use them, preferably through the same speaker(s), or at least ones that are similar. Small, near-field studio monitors and a full stage PA are two very different animals. Every situation and listening environment is different... there are no universal settings that anyone can throw out that'll be guaranteed to give you the results you're looking for. It's a PIA, but doing the grunt work is the only way out. -
Nope. Gotta balance them yourself, it's always been that way. As for changes post-update... anything you created yourself should be that same as it was before. For any new factory presets, all bets are off... they are what they are, and some are always louder than others.
