  1. I guess this all depends upon whether any bias (phantom) voltage is available via your TBP06 (V30 transmitter) I'm going to hazard a guess that it won't be able to provide the necessary DC Bias voltage required for the 4066 to function. The TBP12 DOES but I can't see any mention of bias voltage in the TBP06 docs that I've found. As such, you'd need an interim power box or change to the better transmitter. DPA only list the V70 system as compatible via one of their convertors.
  2. Magic Fairy Dust Rick ;-) I dunno the specifics of it. Not detailed in the manual, it just states that the M20 will broadcast on a particular WiFi channel with a dongle inserted.
  3. A limited network is created via the dongle Rick :-) No requirement for a router, BUT the router method is far more reliable and robust.
  4. Hey Rick, if Nitroflash is using a dongle, that's all he needs, so long as it is a supported one. The dongle performs the same function as the router BUT experience has told us that a router performs the task more reliably. Dongles don't have such a strong signal and, as such, appear far more prone to interference. Before you give up on it Nitroflash, try adding a length of USB extension between the dongle and M20d and try to get the Dongle up to around head height if at all possible (higher if you can)
  5. I guess it's the way of the world. The first digital incarnations of products have a naturally short lifespan (just look at mobile phones) and yet here we are investing in something we have every expectation of it lasting as long as its analogue counterparts. I don't disagree. Yep, still with you... See, here is where you, and others give the impression that you're expecting something more than you paid for. It is this bit that I don't understand. Yep, I'm back with you now. Not entirely sure how Line6 can do this, other than the facilities we already have. Even with such a medium, it is down to individuals to get involved and sometimes that takes time to develop. PA isn't exactly the most interesting area of music production. Some of us find it fascinating, others just switch off. All the guys in my band care about is whether we sound good. They couldn't care less about how that sound is moulded from the raw inputs. Variax and the guitar range is an entirely different ball game. The pool of guitarists is considerably larger than the pool of PA owners. That sheer difference in boots on the ground makes it easier to get a vibrant community going and, gives Line6 a much bigger consumer base to secure. No, neither do I. As you say, StageScape was a curve ball when it was released and, in many ways, it was a game changer. You only have to look at the number of traditional PA companies who have now adapted their model ranges and, as you say, caught up. It is debateable whether any have surpassed the M20 across the board. Yes, some have features which have been requested, but they are missing something the M20 has. Others get pretty close. Are Line6 right to keep quiet about future developments they are working on? Yes, in my opinion. It is all too easy for competitors to steal and weave those same ideas in to their product lines at an alarmingly fast pace. Especially when the other main players in the arena have PA as a bigger part of their portfolio than Line6 does. We're talking here about a product line that is still less than 3 years old, and yet by the way some are talking, you'd be forgiven for believing it dead.
  6. Dave, I think you've missed the point I was trying to make. Just because Line6 added the facility to update the M20d with bugfixes and possibly upgrades to the software, at what point does that give *any* user the right to expect ongoing upgrades for free, and apparently for life? As has been pointed out by others more eloquently than me, it isn't free for Line6 to develop such upgrades, so why do modern consumers expect and subsequently demand those upgrades at a regular interval? If specific BUGS had been discovered in the software then yes, I would be one of those queuing up waiting the fix. If Line6 decided to roll out upgrades alongside those bug fixes, either because they were already on the development table when the unit was first designed but which weren't quite ready when the marketing boys wanted to launch or because the software team were twiddling their thumbs one week with nothing better to do then so much the better. We've seen this occur twice already, but to my knowledge, there haven't been any more *bugs* discovered. IF Line6 were to release a software upgrade which I would benefit from, but for which they required some remuneration, then I would willingly pay for it. If it contained nothing I needed, then I'd skip. I'll re-iterate, but without the analogy... My M20d does everything I expected it to do (and more) when I decided to buy it. I was satisfied that it was worth the money I paid, at the time I bought it. It delivers stellar sound with minimal effort on my part so fulfils my primary reason for buying it. It has sufficient inputs and outputs to cater for my needs at the time I bought it. Had there been a model with more inputs then I'd have likely bought that at the time, but there wasn't so I didn't. I don't expect Line6 to supply me, you or anyone else with FREE upgrades to the software but will gladly accept it *if* given. I DO expect Line6 to support the product and rectify any discovered bugs in a timely fashion. Many of the "ideas" on ideascale are very singular in nature. Not that they are bad ideas, but they solve a problem for a tiny proportion of users. As for the four ideas you've highlighted... Auto EQ option for mains via Mic input on M20d So you'd willingly sacrifice a mic input for this? Aside from anything else, the StageScape is aimed at gigging bands. Auto EQ the room with a mic, your 200+ audience arrives and the entire venue's acoustics change, so unless you have it running permanently (thus sacrificing a mic input) what's the point? Experience teaches us which of the many presets to use and which will subsequently be mellowed by the arrival of the audience. Tap tempo delay for stagescape m20d No use to me. Save FBS settings with Setups on the M20d It's been answered over and over again. Feedback is driven by so many factors that saving notches seems absolutely pointless to me. Ring the room out. Screen Lockout OK, you've possibly got me with this one. Can't imagine I'd use it, but I can see why many would think they want it. On the flip side, how many of the ideas posted over there had never crossed your mind, until you saw them there? As for us all still using pooper scoopers... how'd you work that one out? The transition from horses and carts to petrol driven automobiles took many many years. Why? Because initially, support for the automobile was low and as such cost was high. People who already owned a first generation motor often felt the had to buy a new model when the next one came out because it was better, had the features they then required and some other manufacturer had come along in the meantime and woven a few of the first cars ideas into their new car on top of which they'd added a few flourishes of their own. The automobile manufacturers didn't send out upgrades to the owners though. You wanted the new features, you had to buy again or make do with what you'd got. Software vendors are little different, though it appears otherwise. If you want the latest version of Apple OSX, you've got to buy it. If you want the latest version of windows, you've got to buy it. Yes, you get updates through the lifespan of the product but those updates are 99% bug fixes and vulnerability patches, you don't normally get new features. So, back to the original point, why do modern consumers seem to expect/demand such things without expecting to pay for it just because it is software and the manufacturer had the foresight to add in a simple flashing process so they could remedy bugs if any were found?
  7. As with everything in life, there are "safe" techniques you can deploy that make lifting even an L3 to 5' off the ground *relatively safe. 46, still lifting speakers ;-) Indeed, I'd say it is lifting them into and out of their bags that does my back in, not the lifting them onto stands!!! It's possible to easily lift onto a normal stand and then, with an assistant,. raise the stand height and peg in position. If I'm not pole mounting over the subs I've got these: http://produkte.k-m.de/en/Speakerlighting-and-monitor-stands-and-holders/Speaker-stands/21467-SPEAKER-STAND-RING-LOCK-black
  8. Seeing your post Jim gave me an inspiration last night at an outing I did with a SKA band. I tend to set trim levels one by one then get the band to perform a full song, typically one which has a good balance across all inputs (ie all backing vox in play etc) and record the track. We then do an intial mix in headphones befor doing a playback check through mains. The inspiration was to do the initial mix at the M20 but have the iPad open on the Recording screen so we could quickly advance, rewind without having to change screens on the M20. Worked a treat and I can't believe I'd not thought of it before. So, thanks for the clue Jim :-)
  9. In 2012 I bought a 2 seater sports car. I paid top dollar for it as it was a new release car and I've been using it ever since. There were a couple of little niggly problems in the engine management system that a few other drivers had found and my dealer called and told me to pop in a get the bugfixes each time, which I did. It corners superbly and the sound the engine makes is fantastic. I've really enjoyed driving it. BUT, my wife has just popped two offspring and my 2 seater sports car is no longer suitable. I want more seats because I now need it to be able to have four of us put in it. OK, I only needed 2 seats when I bought it and, as I said, its a great little sports car. Its a real shame though XXXX haven't further developed it and sent me the upgrade that adds two more seats if needed for free. Take a look at what YYYY are doing... they've got a 2 seater AND a 4 seater sports car. OK so their 4 seater is not as slick as my 2 seater and doesn't corner as well, but its got 2 extra seats AND its cheaper than what I paid for mine. Why can't XXXX give me the 2 extra seats I need? Especially as to get my 2 seater now would cost less than what I paid. To be honest, I'm getting really hacked off as since I bought the little car, XXXX haven't done anything to improve it apart from the two bugfixes for my engine management system. What's more, they haven't made any announcements about even a newer model of my little two seater and yet almost everyone else has! Come on XXXX, you need to tell us what you're up to (if anything at all)... as I'm getting scared that you're going to stop making cars and leave me out in the cold with a car I can no longer use. ;-)
  10. I've an Apple Airport Express and run a Line6 XD-V75BP beltpack wireless system for my sax. Gigged last night with both in play, mixing done from the back of the (sideways orientated) room via iPad about 20 feet from router positioned on the other side of a foot thick wall, my Line6 receiver approx. 4' away from it, again on the other side (stage side) of the wall. I made my initial entrance from a room at the back corner of the room (playing at the time) and made my way through the audience, spending the first track I was doing out on the audience floor moving amongst them and from the recordings there was just one tiny drop out right at the outset whilst I was technically still in the other room (ie 2 walls in my way). iPad connection remained stable throughout the night including roaming all over the room. Audience of approx. 300, loads of whom had mobiles etc. In countless times using the iPad, I've only experienced one lost connection. Running additional Line6 wireless units might have a bigger impact, but certainly from last night's perspective, it all went brilliantly. Whilst you can't disable the 2G broadcast on the airport, you can instruct your iPad to only connect to the 5G network it creates. It is perhaps worth noting, Line6 make no specific recommendations regarding the use of the Apple Airport Express Router. *ANY* 2G/5G router will work. The only piece of required hardware that is recommended as Apple is the USB to Ethernet adapter.
  11. Like litesnsirens said, the side panel, if useful for nothing else, is great for rehearsals... When I bought my rig I didn't fork out the extra £400 to get 4 "t" model speakers, I simply got 2x L3m and 2x L2m which our band uses as floor monitors, however recently I've acquired an L2t. I've subsequently used it at rehearsals where I'm only putting "me" through the speaker (an instrument only rehearsal and a rehearsal with another band where I'm guesting). I'm seriously tempted to buy a second L2t... giving me 4 floor monitors in full rig mode, and although I've not tried running the L2's as tops over my subs, following from litesnsirens, if I get a second L2t, I may well try it... I've run out of space in my car to transport more speakers ;-) so only taking out L2's might be a plan! The capability to go out with just the 2 L2t's if we ever do a smaller pub gig and only want to put vox and sax through is also pretty appealing. Oh that I'd made these discoveries and the excellent guidance above had been available at the outset!
  12. Count me in the love it camp. I've owned my full rig (M20d, 2xL3m 2xL3s 2x L2m plus a recently acquired L2t) since October '13. In that time, I've used it with 8 different bands: Our (as then) 7 piece; drums, 5x vox, guitar, keys, bass, drums and sax Our now 5 pice: 5x vox, 2x guitars, bass, drums and sax A 4 piece thrash rock band: 2 vox, 2 guitars, bass, drums A 3 piece thrash rock band: 1 vox, 2 guitars, bass, drums via laptop recordings A 4 piece thrash rock band: 1 vox, 2 guitars, bass, drums A 4 piece thrash rock band: 1 vox, 1 guitar, bass, drums A 4 piece foofighters tribute band: 1 vox, 2 guitars, bass, drums A 5 piece (6 piece for their next outing) SKA band: 5x vox, 2x guitars (one doubled ie 3 guitars) bass, keys and drums. In every scenario, I've not struggled to have either: Enough inputs (though I was getting tight with our original 7 piece lineup) Enough monitor mixes In all that time, I've had just ONE issue: a blown power supply on one of my L3s's which Line6 speedily resolved via the dealer I bought from. In every situation except one the sound delivered by the rig has been immense and unlike anything I've heard before... and considering its me running sound (with a little help from our guitarist) and neither of us is a "sound engineer", I am wholeheartedly pleased with my purchase and WILL be expanding the rig with at least one more L2t. What I don't understand is why, as modern consumers, we now seem to expect, no demand, free of charge updates to software. Additionally, we whinge when we don't get what we want and it somehow becomes the manufacturers fault. I do expect "bug fixes" for free, as a bug is a fault, but I don't expect upgrades. The rig does exactly what was promised on the day I bought it. It does so flawlessly. I've found no bugs. It was worth the money I paid for it then and as it still does exactly what was promised it's still worth it now. Call me old school. I paid my money, I got what I paid for and I'm still a happy bunny. Do I want extra features? Possibly, it would depend on what those features were. Would I expect them for free? No. If my equipment developed a fault, would I expect the manufacturer to sort it out? Yes, and as I've seen, Line6 do so. If I order an ice cream from the van, should I be able to go back and demand sprinkles on it because the van next door put sprinkles on their ice creams (even though the ice cream tastes worse or they charge more)... No absolutely not. So why do so many feel aggrieved that Line6 aren't rolling out every little feature every other manufacturer adds to their later released digital desks? Why is the quality of the desk being judged by the date of the last software update? Plain and simple... If the M20d doesn't do what you *need* it to, go get something else. If the M20d doesn't have the features you *need*, go get something else. If the M20d still does exactly what you were promised it would do when you bought it, you got what you paid for. You made the decision to buy it. Me... I love it.
  13. I tend to agree that a browser based interface is the way to go long term... but as said, that's V2 of the hardware... if it ever sees the light of day!
  14. 32GB SDHC Card is the biggest "supported" card though some have used a FAT32 formatted SDXC card To my knowledge, yes, you can utilise a USB hard drive and USB WiFi at the same time by placing a powered usb hub in the chain. Not done it myself though as haven't had need. I stick to 32GB SD cards!
  15. The immediate issue is that to have a web/browser based interface, the device needs to have a built in web server. More software running on the M20d potentially slowing it down. I wonder why soundcraft have maxed out at 12 + 2stereo?
  16. Colonel... Those are the L6Link auto assign charts, ie the way the M20d will automatically assign each vertically positioned and horizontally positioned speaker in your chain. I reckon they maxed it out at 9 because it then fitted onto one page ;-) When manually assigning, there is nothing to prevent you from sending L/R to every one of your 18 speakers if that is what you want to do.
  17. Do a complete HARD reset of the airport express... It may be worth disconnecting your iPad from any other wireless network you have up and running whilst you do this. 1.Disconnect everything except the power from your Airport Express. Press and hold the reset button until you see the status light (LED) start to flash amber rapidly, which should occur after about five seconds. 2.Release the button and the device will reset. 3.Wait about a minute for the base station to finish restarting, then in Settings > WiFi on your iPad you should see an entry for "SET UP NEW AIRPORT BASE STATION" with "Airport Express xxxxxx" beneath where xxxxxx is a sequence of 6 letters and numbers. 4.Once the iPad has initially connected, in AirPort Setup, choose Create a New Network (Recommended) 5.Name your network (the name you enter is irrelevant) 6.Name the device (again name is irrelevant) 7.Create and enter a password. This password is simply the password for managing your Airport Express and connecting to it with your iPad and has nothing to do with the stagescape connection directly. 8.Continue without Internet connection (plug no cables in) 9.Wait til setup completes and click "Done" 10.Plug Network cable to LAN port on back of Airport Express (LAN port has the arrows icon) 11.Plug other end of network cable into USB to Ethernet adapter 12.Power up your M20d and when fully booted plug USB to Ethernet adapter in to the USB port. 13.On M20d screen, press the "i" icon in top right corner of screen and select the "Wi-Fi" button on the left. 14.You should see green text stating "Status: Ethernet connected" 15.On iPad, launch the Stagescape remote app 16.Press green "CONNECT" button in app and you should see a "Choose a StageScape" screen. 17.Press the offered entry and you should get an "Enter StageScape M20d PIN" screen. Enter the pin displayed on the M20d screen. 18.After a few seconds, your M20d WiFi screen should now display "1 Remote Connected" and the iPad should now show your SETUP screen.
  18. I have found that individual track recorded levels are higher than a main outs recording. BUT I've recently started creating a fresh main outs recording from the individual inputs recordings by capturing the main outs via a two channel interface into my DAW then exporting to MP3 from the DAW. Yields a really good recording.
  19. The limit is 18 speakers total using L6Link Configurations are: L R L+R Mon A Mon B Mon C Mon D From section 8.7 of the manual: The M20d supports L6 LINK configurations of up to 18 speakers. Each L6 LINK connected speaker can be assigned to any one of the M20d’s 6 outputs, as well as a combination of Main Left and Main Right.
  20. When I originally bought my rig (2x L3m, 2x L3s and 2x L2m) I decided to go with the m's because I couldn't at the time see the benefit and the extra £400 ust didn't make sense at the time. If I were buying now, I reckon I'd have bought the t's. BUT part of that is that the price difference between the m's and t's is now smaller than it was. I've recently picked up a 3rd L2, this time an L3t and reckon the flexibility of being able to link a pair up and just run with them for small gigs would now be useful. Our band lineup has shrunk since I bought the full rig and I'm also hiring it out. Just reckon that, had I got them across the full rig, the t side panel mixers would make the rig more flexible for what I've evolved into doing.
  21. Worth looking at this post of Don's as it does a full run through for creating a STEREO drum overhead preset. http://line6.com/support/topic/8302-new-video-constructing-a-stereo-oh-preset/?hl=overhead
  22. I didn't quite understand this in relation to your original question. I understood that you were playing two different venues... thus the panning was between those venues, not within a performance. Within a performance, you could achieve what you want using two scenes. Scene one within the setup would have everything panned as normal, then scene two would have the inputs panned as required. You can then use a momentary footswitch to switch between the "scenes" and not need to touch the M20 or speakers at all. If the panning is something required for the entire performance, ie it is venue based, then I still refer back to the original suggestions of a distinct setup with the pan in place and a second setup with no panning. Then load the setup appropriate for how you rig the room. There shouldn't be any need to adjust the panning or touch the speaker gains once you've done your initial setup and soundcheck.
  23. It's on page 2.13 of the manual but it only describes creating the encoder. I guess we're supposed to play about to discover how to edit/remove! It is also mention on 10.18 but again only in regards to creating the encoder.
  24. Hi Rick... I have my "stage" as the black background and a group controller is definitely "beige" but I can see why you would think it transparent..
