  1. Holy crap. If those pedals are all you need to make your tone - the Pod may be too much unit for you, lol. The only benefit you will have using a programmable unit over those would be the able to dial in and store your favorite settings. Also, take note... The HD Pro, HD Pro X, HD500, and HD500x are all the same unit - as far as a computer brain is concerned. The floor unit made more sense for me. A rack may make more sense for you. A rack unit with a foot controller may make sense too. The X units have slightly more DSP because of a hardware change. And there are some minute differences in jacks between the floor and rack units. But ultimately, when updated to the latest firmware, they are all the same basic unit.
  2. and also try a different power supply. (those are good to have a backup as well). It may not be the power supply itself, but the wire or jack could have gone bad.
  3. *A quick Google of those bands leads me to say - sure, you can do that. I don't know those bands. BUT... I bought a pod and replaced everything that went between me and the pa. No amps. No other fx. I walk in, I put my pod on the floor, and I am ready to go. You, of course, are looking at the rack unit. So, you wouldn't necessarily put yours on the floor. Although, you should consider getting the foot controller for it, which would be on the floor. I can tell you - There are limits as to how many effects you can use at one time. You can have a maximum of 8 at one time, but you are also limited by DSP (similar to RAM on a pc). Amps, delays, and reverbs are heavy on DSP. It is possible that if you run a dual amp and then try to add 8 delays/reverbs/harmonizers that you will run out of DSP before you hit 8. *Amps use DSP but do not count towards your 8 blocks. Depending on how many effects you actually want to run, as well as routing options, you may want to consider a Helix. You will not find a better unit in this price range, but the unit is 7 years old. Technology now allows for much more if you need more, which is why the Helix may be a better choice. Certainly, "pedals" are not an option if the Pod cannot handle the work.
  4. Customtone is user supported. That means everyone and anyone can upload tones. You know that nerd that drools on his gear - he can post tones. You know that grammy winning, platinum album selling, limousine riding, WOOOO - he can post tones. You, a brand new guy - you can post tones. **Also, the tone of some patches will change based on which firmware version someone is using. It is possible that a great tone on FW1.0 will sound like dogcrap on FW2.62
  5. Or you build a road case with jacks built in - that way your input jack is always off to the side. Take the lid off, and you are ready to go. Put the lid on and you are ready to travel.
  6. In fairness to the OP --- y'all know this site has been pretty messed up lately. Direct your tomfoolery towards those who deserve it. Like the douche that wanted to know if there was a way to hook up his pod without using the effects loop.
  7. Let me repeat the question to see if you can take a hint ---- So, if I read that correctly, you want to use the amp's guitar input?
  8. That's so not true. Not that I am average  But, I never used a tube amp or an fx loop. And I've done quite well. I always ran everything in on straight chain. Until I bought my Pod. Then I started to run direct to the pa --- which was one of the primary reasons I bought the pod. *except when backlined. then all bets are off.
  9. Sure, the sampler is the easiest way. But, my question is ---- prior to having a pod, how would you do it? You would do exactly what you just did. Play. Tweak. Play. Tweak. Play. Tweak. Why is it "too tedious" now?
  10. So, if I read that correctly, you want to use the amp's guitar input?
  11. step one - remove the computer. there's no way to know where the problem lies when there are multiple devices that could be the culprit.
  12. And little amps on the floor look so unprofessional. I used a Peavey Bandit 65 for over two decades. It was never on the floor. It sat on top of a 12 space race unit. And I had a Peavey Audition Plus that sat on top of that because you shouldn't adjust amp levels once they are mic'd but sometimes you need a little extra volume. Of course, the bigger bands with bigger systems, it becomes a different story because you have your individual monitors and your amp is often backstage. But, it is not 1983 anymore.
  13. I also missed out on all of the replies
  14. I stopped reading when I got to the sentence the sound guy could get better balance for the audience. I mean WTF. How does someone get a better mix with a guitar amp blasting in the middle of the sound.
  15. try a different power supply.
  16. "I rest my case" is what lawyers say when they have closed their side of the case. Regular Joes use it during conversation when the other person proves their point for them. Case in point - you said - no more units we said - wrong you said - more units we said - "told ya so"
  17. the 500, 500x, pro, and pro x are all the same unit. There are some minor DSP differences between the x and non-x units, and there are some jack/pedal differences between rack and floor units. But they are the same in terms of coding. The only issue with a transfer of files is the extension they each use. If you drag-n-drop, it isn't a problem. But if you try to use the drop-down box, the computer won't see the files because it looks for a different extension based on which EDIT you are running.
  18. What do you mean "set to default". And what is "upper memory".
  19. the AUX IN will be processed with effects if you are looking to play an unprocessed sound, use the CD INPUT
  20. It is easy to see in the editor. But it is available on the machine. And there is also a global setting that will override the settings of each patch.
  21. Customtone is no different than anything else. Some people like Coke, some like Pepsi. Very few like Tab or RC. Wikipedia has some good information, but there are also people who aren't smart enough to form a complete sentence writing information. And we can't forget, there's people who intentionally fill out bogus information. Not every email selling peepee enlargement pills are a scam. Some are scams, some are viruses, some are vitamins that increase blood flow. So, no, Customtone is not an automatic assumption of goodness.
  22. Step 1. Do not use an amp to build tones if you aren't using the same amp to play them. Step 2. Treat all of this digital stuff like you would physical stuff. - meaning, if you have never used a Treadplate in the physical world, do not use one in the virtual world. Step 3. Your ears are more important than your eyes.
  23. there's many reasons why it could be distorted. But, the most common reason why cleans are distorted on the 500 is the dual input. You should set input one to guitar and input 2 to something other than guitar or same. Variax is always a good choice but it depends on if and what you are using as a 2nd input.
  24. Customtone is not needed. And, in fact, is a pointless step. No reason to even consider it. Download/transfer/save your tones to your computer from your 500 (which you should already have done) and then upload/transfer/open on your 500x
