I had a similar problem not too long ago when using headphones through an adapter. Some patches were normal, and some sounded like lollipop. It had to do with the amount of stereo split. The more left/right a patch was, the more normal it sounded. But patches that were centered, phased. My connection was not 100% properly re-installed. It was being played mono, which is why 100% L/R patches sounded fine.

How exactly are you going to be hearing the vocals?
-
We don't know what you did for us to help you undo it.

Rememeber (or learn for the first time if you didn't previously know), it is an expression pedal. It not a default volume/wah pedal. It will control whatever you will program it to. Now, that being said, you need to assign something to the pedals in order to control them.

Bad Horsie? Assuming I know what part of a 7 minute instrumental song you are talking about... In theory, you can do that. But, because it is digital it moves in increments - so it will not truly be fluid. What I mean is ---- Pick any 2 numbers, let's say, 440A and A# at 446.16hz. There are 26hz between the two. But there is also an infinite number of fractional hertz - because you have 440.1, 440.01, 440.001 and etc etc. The 500x gives 10 choices for every half step. Which may be fine when you are going from a C0 to a C#0 at 16.35hz and 17.32hz (respectively), but it leaves something to be desired when playing A#8 @ 7458.62hz and B8 @ 7902.13 where there are 450hz between the two. I mean, please choose 10 out of 450. However, only an autistic savant will be able to tell that it was incremental and didn't cover the total spectrum.

Obviously (as stated), it is your machine, do what you want. But, as far as us and how we use our individual machines --- For example: I will never play 'metal' with an SSS (but I know people who do). I would always need a humbucker, if not two. So, designing a metal patch that sounded good with 3 single coils would be foolish for me. Nor would I ever use my neon-pink one-pickup speed-demon V-shaped guitar to play country. The two just don't work together. Outside of specific sounds for specific guitars and specific songs or geners... I actually make one set of sounds. Each guitar sounds different, but that is why I own different guitars. Same 'baseline', different end result. I have one guitar that I make sounds with. When I need more power, I use the more powerful guitar. When I need something a little 'twangy', I use something with single coils. And so on and so forth... Go ahead, make different sounds for different guitars. It will always be the best solution. But it is not the only solution.

I don't think anyone has ever tried plugging an amp INTO the pod. Try it. Be the first. Tell us the results.

Sorry, I had to ask. There are settings (outside of a patch) that a new owner may not know about. They make a huge difference in what the device sounds like.

You've got 5 posts... 3 of them are here in this thread. Did you just buy your HD500x, or is this your first post because you are having issues?

Windows 10 is going to be the problem. It has been giving a lot of people a lot of problems ~~ or at least did in the past. I can't speak for the model packs, but everything else is will be fine. Just download monkey and the rest should take care of itself. There is something somewhere called 'authorized computers'. I don't know what that is, and I haven't run into it. But it has to do with things that cost you money (such as model packs?). I have my EDIT on multiple computers because I am often in different locations for extended periods of time. And I have not had any issues.

Honestly, if your A isn't working, you probably need a new A more than a reset. maybe blow some air to move some dirt around to get it working.

Just make sure you are buying a regular usb cord - sometimes referred to as A-male to B-male. I misread that post the first time around and thought he was telling you to buy a male-to-male. ************************ As far as NEED: You need the power supply (technically, it is not just the cable). That is the only thing that you need. You could also use a USB cord if you want to hook up to a pc. Which will then need some software installed --- to be done AFTER you have the unit. You could use a good set of Stereo Powered Studio Monitors. You could use a decent pair of headphones - one with and one without their own volume control. Maybe you want a 2nd EXP pedal. Maybe an L-link or spdif. Ultimately, you need the power supply and the rest will be based on you and how you are going to use it --- which can change once you realize all that this thing does.

Wouldn't it be easier to plug the wah into the input jack? I mean, your foot is already on the wah, so why not just click on the wah's pedal. But, to answer the question - yes, you can do it your way.
-
does anyone know if it's possible to invert the polarity of a FS assign so it turns a block on as another goes off? YES what about assigning latching or unlatching (toggle or momentary), is that possible on the HD500X? NO. But I believe that the Helix can do that --- or at least, something similar that is more than a simple on/off. is it possible to make the EXP pedal turn blocks on and off? Not as far as I remember.
-
Then as far as "set up" goes: You would want to set the unit for Studio/Direct. Set your input 1 for guitar, and input 2 probably best as variax (in the control panel, not in EDIT or within a patch). Those would be the first steps.

ARE YOU USING AN AMP??? A PHYSICAL AMP, NOT A VIRTUAL ONE.

Oddly enough, it was just officially announced this week that, yes, indeed, the middle class is now less than 50% of the population. Which, I am actually ok with. Because the upper class has grown. The bottom feeders are staying constant, which means the middle are moving up.

As a business, yes, you buy when something is needed. Otherwise it is wasteful spending. I've already stated that the machine does things that I have no use for, but would like to find a use for them. I am a long time player. I may change guitars more than I do strippers. But everything else has always been constant. Unlike many people... I would not have bought the product if it did not fit my needs. And I haven't looked at another product since. Why would I? I have what I need. I often say: I bet your wife feels real secure in your relationship knowing that you can be enticed by a newer, shinier, model with bigger play toys. Unfortunately, the people that statement is meant for, are typically unable to grasp the hidden meaning.

First thing, is to create a 'baseline' result. For me, I plug an mp3 player into the mp3 jack and I play the same file at the same volume. Then, using the same patch every time, I adjust the master volume of the pod until I have my volume where I need it to be... Once you have that set, you can match all of your patches to that one particular patch. Whether you want the volume to be the same or different, at least you have that baseline to start with. As noted above: Actual volume will vary from perceived volume. Also, performance volume will vary from bedroom volume. But, ultimately, I use the mixer controls as needed for final adjustments. Obviously, it may not be ideal in a 'live' situation or even in a '30 minutes to showtime' situation, but you do what you gotta do.

They are angry over their success(or lack thereof) as a musician. Not the unit. I believe they call that 'displaced anger'. It doesn't make them play any better. It doesn't increase their income. And that is why people are get pissy. Me, an actual money making performer, see the HD500 doing so much... it does things that I have no use for, but things that I want to find a use for. Of course, what do I know. I used an ART SGE Mach II and Rocktron ProGAP for twenty years, and I have interest in a Helix. No one could possibly perform with that kind of gear ---- or so they think.

I realize the fact that, today, I am not in the same boat as everyone else. I didn't wake up in this boat. I started where everyone else did. But I have always owned my business and I wasn't going to let some hired help ruin my business. ---- A sound man can destroy your career. Don't let it happen. You are the boss. Be the boss. I was spending $1500 (in 1980's money) each night on sound and lights. And that was for bars that held 200-500 people. I know people don't get paid like that anymore and the same time there are more places providing sound and lights so they don't need to pay for it themselves, but everyone still needs to take control. It is your name up in lights. No one (except other musicians) ever walks out of a show saying "gee whiz that band was awesome but the sound guy really should have dropped the mids a little. We should see them again next week" No, they walk out saying "what the hell did we spend $5 on that for! Never again!"

I don't use the GEQ. The guy running the mixer gets paid for a reason. Let him earn it.

Depends on what kind of band you are in. 30 years ago, I could design just a couple sounds for each band. One clean, one dirty. And maybe a take the dirty and make a couple variations of it, like adding a flanger or something. But today, I would never be able to survive like that. I don't do the same stuff I did then (different business model, not necessarily different music style). I am usually doing like you, one patch per song. Although, admittedly, there are some patches that are the same as others but are saved under each song name. That way, no matter what band I am in or what order we play songs, I can always recall the sound for THAT particular song.
